At that very moment, ICANN announced the possibility of moving up the introduction of top-level domains in national languages, which made support for Cyrillic script in .RU impractical.</p> </div> <div class="b-history__item"> <span class="b-history__date">2008</span> <p>In 2008, the idea of speeding up the launch of a Russian-language domain was supported by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
