The petrographical and mineralogical data is very useful in mapping and correlating the flow sequences and in establishing the flow stratigraphy. The petrographic and mineralogical studies also play an important role identification of various petrogenetic processes that may be responsible for producing them. In the present study an attempt has been made to understand the preliminary petrography and mineralogy of lava pile of Muktagiri. The detailed geological mapping of the study area was done, and number of filed traverses were carried out the to identify the various lava flows along with their extensions. The field specimens were collected along all the traverses. The megascopic and microscopic studies were done to identify the petrographic and mineralogical characters. About 15 lava flows were identified in the study area. These lava flows, based on mineralogical and petrographic characters were divided in to four formations namely A, B, C and D formation. Further, the lava flows can be classified into aphyric and phyric lava flows. Mineralogical study revels that the lava flows are composed of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and opaque (mostly Fe-Ti oxide). Lower Eocene age. These flows have been formed by fissure type of volcanoes. They form a part of plateau basalts of the Peninsular India. The flows are of 'aa' type. The study area Tumjai Hill falls in Kumbhi River Basin. The altitude ranges from 539 meters to 889 meters. The total thickness of Tumjai Hill lava flows is 350 meters. The lava flow mapping has been carried out in the study area and various flows are marked. There are seven lava flows in Tumjai Hill area. Each flow is composed of several sub units. The sub units are made up of jointed basalt, compact basalt, vesicular and amygdaloidal basalt, red bole and volcanic breccia. Rosette structure and spheroidal weathering are also seen. Columnar joints are present in the upper part of the hill. The volcanic breccia is formed at the top of the lava flows at some places. In which the angular rock fragments are mingled with lava. The patches of red bole mark the boundary of the successive lava flows at many places. The compact basalt is generally devoid of vesicles. In the study area the compact columnar jointing is found restricted to only some parts of the lava flows. In the study area the commonly observed feature of the flows is spheroidal weathering. But the rocks of the isolated magmatic body of Bhanjada Bet, are not largely studied. The present work aims to study the field occurence of the rocks, its petrography and the general tectonic setting of the formation of the rocks of the island. The main mass is largely composed of phonolite surrounded by nepheline-syenite at the periphery. From the modal analysis, the coarse grained rocks are named as foid-monzo syenite, while its volcanic equivalent as phonolite. the major minerals of both the rock types are alkali-feldspar, plagioclase-feldspar, nepheline, aegirine etc. The presence of these types of rocks indicated silica under-saturated melt composition. The principle objective of this study was to thoroughly study the mafic rocks of the area. Numerous outcrops of this type of rocks were observed in the study area. Various field measurements including trend, grain size, mutual distribution, association with granitic country rock and sampling were performed, which fall within the toposheet no: 73 J/8. The mesoarchean-Paleoproterozoic stratigraphic record of the Singbhum crustal province, eastern India, implies sedimentation and volcanism in a changing tectonic scenario and thus assumes geological significance. Mafic magmatism in the craton spreads from 3.3 Ga (Oldest enclaves of amphibolltes) to about 0.1 Ga (Newer dolerite dyke group). The present study is based on evolution of magmatic rocks in relation to tectonic setting in a region which is southern extension of Singbhum shear zone.These outcrops occur as chain of hillocks with low elevation. Trend wise they vary from two main orientations: NW-SE and NE-SW. The dykes show variable grain size, texture and mineralogy. These basic dykes are found exclusively associated with Singhbhum granite. The bodies range in width from 20m to over 60m and in length of around 100m. Grain size varies from medium to coarse, with some fine grained varieties restricted to contact zones. Mineralogically, the mafic rock is mainly composed of orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene and plagioclase feldspar. Clinopyroxene grains are most abundant. Orthopyroxene grains are stubby shaped and highly fractured. Solely consisted groundmass plagioclase grains are unusually large and trap the pyroxenes as inclusion. A true magmatic texture of minerals is observed. Alteration of mineral is found generally near the contact of granitic body, otherwise the rock is fresh. This work consists of detailed petrographic study with the aid of high power microscopes, geochemical analysis and plotting modal analysis data, major element compositions, normative calculations, AFM diagram along with variation diagrams. In this purpose three important parameters are used i.e. SiO2 content, Mg no. and Differential Index (D.I). From the plotting of modal analysis data the name of the rock is Mela-gabbronorite. High Mg no. indicates the primitive character of magma. Plotting of the samples in AFM diagram inferred iron enrichment trends of the magma.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline
