She broke<MG4937> the vial<MG211> and poured<MG2708> the perfume over<MG2708> His head<MG2776>. <a href="/mark/14-4.htm">4</a>But there were some<MG5100> indignantly<MG23> remarking to one<MG1438> another<MG1438>, “Why<MG1519, 5101> has this<MG3778> perfume<MG3464> been<MG1096> wasted<MG684>? <a href="/mark/14-5.htm">5</a>For this<MG3778> perfume<MG3464> could<MG1410> have been sold<MG4097> for over<MG1883> three<MG5145> hundred<MG5145> <a href="#fn">[c]</a>denarii<MG1220>, and the money given<MG1325> to the poor<MG4434>.” And they were scolding<MG1690> her. <a href="/mark/14-6.htm">6</a>But Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004>, “Leave<MG863> her alone<MG863>! Why<MG5101> are you bothering<MG2873, 3930> her? She has done<MG2038b> a good<MG2570> deed<MG2041> for Me. <a href="/mark/14-7.htm">7</a>For you always<MG3842> have<MG2192> the poor<MG4434> with you, and whenever<MG3752> you want<MG2309>, you can<MG1410> do<MG4160> good<MG2095> to them; but you do not always<MG3842> have<MG2192> Me. <a href="/mark/14-8.htm">8</a>She has done<MG4160> what<MG3739> she could<MG2192>; she has anointed<MG3462> My body<MG4983> beforehand<MG4301> for the burial<MG1780>. <a href="/mark/14-9.htm">9</a>Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, wherever<MG3699, 1437> the gospel<MG2098> is preached<MG2784> in the entire<MG3650> world<MG2889>, what<MG3588> this<MG3778> woman<MG3778> has done<MG4160> will also<MG2532> be told<MG2980> in memory<MG3422> of her.” <a href="/mark/14-10.htm">10</a>Then<MG2532> Judas<MG2455> Iscariot<MG2469>, who<MG3588> was one<MG1520> of the twelve<MG1427>, went<MG565> off<MG565> to the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> in<MG2443> order<MG2443> to<MG2443> <a href="#fn">[d]</a>betray<MG3860> Him to them. <a href="/mark/14-11.htm">11</a>They were delighted<MG5463> when they heard<MG191> this, and promised<MG1861> to give<MG1325> him money<MG694>. And he began seeking<MG2212> how<MG4459> to betray<MG3860> Him at an opportune<MG2122> time<MG2122>. The Last Passover<a href="/mark/14-12.htm">12</a>On the first<MG4413> day<MG2250> of <a href="#fn">[e]</a>Unleavened<MG106> Bread<MG106>, when<MG3753> <a href="#fn">[f]</a>the Passover<MG3957> lamb was being sacrificed<MG2380>, His disciples<MG3101> *said<MG3004> to Him, “Where<MG4226> do You want<MG2309> us to go<MG565> and prepare<MG2090> for You to eat<MG2068> the Passover<MG3957>?” <a href="/mark/14-13.htm">13</a>And He *sent<MG649> two<MG1417> of His disciples<MG3101> and *said<MG3004> to them, “Go<MG5217> into the city<MG4172>, and a man<MG444> carrying<MG941> a pitcher<MG2765> of water<MG5204> will meet<MG528> you; follow<MG190> him; <a href="/mark/14-14.htm">14</a>and wherever<MG3699, 1437> he enters<MG1525>, say<MG3004> to the owner<MG3617> of<MG3617> the<MG3617> house<MG3617>, ‘The Teacher<MG1320> says<MG3004>, “Where<MG4226> is My guest<MG2646> room<MG2646> in which<MG3699> I may eat<MG2068> the Passover<MG3957> with My disciples<MG3101>?”’ <a href="/mark/14-15.htm">15</a>And he himself<MG846> will show<MG1166> you a large<MG3173> upstairs<MG311b> room<MG311b> furnished<MG4766> and ready<MG2092>; prepare<MG2090> for us there<MG1563>.” <a href="/mark/14-16.htm">16</a>The disciples<MG3101> left<MG1831> and came<MG2064> to the city<MG4172>, and found<MG2147> everything just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He had told<MG3004> them; and they prepared<MG2090> the Passover<MG3957>. <a href="/mark/14-17.htm">17</a>When it was evening<MG3798> He *came<MG2064> with the twelve<MG1427>. <a href="/mark/14-18.htm">18</a>And as they were reclining<MG345> at the table and eating<MG2068>, Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004>, “Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you that one<MG1520> of you will <a href="#fn">[g]</a>betray<MG3860> Me—<a href="#fn">[h]</a>one who is eating<MG2068> with Me.” <a href="/mark/14-19.htm">19</a>They began<MG757> to be grieved<MG3076> and to say<MG3004> to Him one<MG1520> by one<MG1520>, “Surely<MG3385> not I?” <a href="/mark/14-20.htm">20</a>But He said<MG3004> to them, “It is one of the twelve<MG1427>, the one who dips<MG1686> bread with Me in the bowl<MG5165>. <a href="/mark/14-21.htm">21</a>For the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> is going<MG5217> away<MG5217> just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> it is written<MG1125> about<MG4012> Him; but woe<MG3759> to that man<MG444> <a href="#fn">[i]</a>by whom<MG3739> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> is betrayed<MG3860>! It would have been good<MG2570> <a href="#fn">[j]</a>for that man<MG444> if<MG1487> he had not been born<MG1080>.” The Lord’s Supper<a href="/mark/14-22.htm">22</a>While they were eating<MG2068>, He took<MG2983> some bread<MG740>, and <a href="#fn">[k]</a>after a blessing<MG2127> He broke<MG2806> it, and gave<MG1325> it to them, and said<MG3004>, “Take<MG2983> it; this<MG3778> is My body<MG4983>.” <a href="/mark/14-23.htm">23</a>And when He had taken<MG2983> a cup<MG4221> and given<MG2168> thanks<MG2168>, He gave<MG1325> it to them, and they all<MG3956> drank<MG4095> from it. <a href="/mark/14-24.htm">24</a>And He said<MG3004> to them, “This<MG3778> is My blood<MG129> of the covenant<MG1242>, which<MG3588> is being poured<MG1632b> out<MG1632b> for many<MG4183>. <a href="/mark/14-25.htm">25</a>Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, I will not drink<MG4095> of the fruit<MG1079b> of the vine<MG288> again<MG3765>, until<MG2193> that day<MG2250> when<MG3752> I drink<MG4095> it, new<MG2537>, in the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>.” <a href="/mark/14-26.htm">26</a>And after singing<MG5214> a<MG5214> <a href="#fn">[l]</a>hymn<MG5214>, they went<MG1831> out<MG1831> to the Mount<MG3735> of Olives<MG1636>. <a href="/mark/14-27.htm">27</a>And Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “You will all<MG3956> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>fall<MG4624> away<MG4624>, because<MG3754> it is written<MG1125>: ‘I WILL STRIKE<MG3960> THE SHEPHERD<MG4166>, AND THE SHEEP<MG4263b> WILL BE SCATTERED<MG1287>.’ <a href="/mark/14-28.htm">28</a>But after<MG3326> I am raised<MG1453>, I will go<MG4254> ahead<MG4254> of you to Galilee<MG1056>.” <a href="/mark/14-29.htm">29</a>But Peter<MG4074> said<MG5346> to Him, “Even<MG2532> if<MG1487> they all<MG3956> <a href="#fn">[n]</a>fall<MG4624> away<MG4624>, yet<MG235> I will not!” <a href="/mark/14-30.htm">30</a>And Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to him, “Truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, that <a href="#fn">[o]</a>this<MG3778> very<MG4594> night<MG3571>, before<MG4250> a rooster<MG220> crows<MG5455> twice<MG1364>, you yourself<MG4771> will deny<MG533> Me three<MG5151> times<MG5151>.” <a href="/mark/14-31.htm">31</a>But <a href="#fn">[p]</a>Peter repeatedly said<MG2980> insistently<MG1600a>, “Even if<MG1437> I have to die<MG4880> with You, I will not deny<MG533> You!” And they all<MG3956> were saying<MG3004> the same<MG5615> thing<MG5615> as<MG2532> well<MG2532>. Jesus in Gethsemane<a href="/mark/14-32.htm">32</a>They *came<MG2064> to a place<MG5564> named<MG3686> <a href="#fn">[q]</a>Gethsemane<MG1068>; and He *said<MG3004> to His disciples<MG3101>, “Sit<MG2523> here<MG5602> until<MG2193> I have prayed<MG4336>.” <a href="/mark/14-33.htm">33</a>And He *took<MG3880> with Him Peter<MG4074>, <a href="#fn">[r]</a>James<MG2385>, and John<MG2491>, and began<MG757> to be very<MG1568> distressed<MG1568> and troubled<MG85>. <a href="/mark/14-34.htm">34</a>And He *said<MG3004> to them, “My soul<MG5590> is deeply<MG4036> grieved<MG4036>, to<MG2193> the<MG2193> point<MG2193> of death<MG2288>; remain<MG3306> here<MG5602> and <a href="#fn">[s]</a>keep<MG1127> watch<MG1127>.” <a href="/mark/14-35.htm">35</a>And He went<MG4281> a little<MG3398> beyond<MG4281> them, and fell<MG4098> to the ground<MG1093> and began praying<MG4336> that if<MG1487> it were possible<MG1415>, the hour<MG5610> might <a href="#fn">[t]</a>pass<MG3928> Him by. <a href="/mark/14-36.htm">36</a>And He was saying<MG3004>, “Abba<MG5>! <a href="#fn">[u]</a>Father<MG3962>! All<MG3956> things<MG3956> are possible<MG1415> for You; remove<MG3911> this<MG3778> cup<MG4221> from Me; yet<MG235> not what<MG5101> I will<MG2309>, but what<MG5101> You will.” <a href="/mark/14-37.htm">37</a>And He *came<MG2064> and *found<MG2147> them sleeping<MG2518>, and *said<MG3004> to Peter<MG4074>, “Simon<MG4613>, are you asleep<MG2518>? Could<MG2480> you not <a href="#fn">[v]</a>keep<MG1127> watch<MG1127> for one<MG1520> hour<MG5610>? <a href="/mark/14-38.htm">38</a><a href="#fn">[w]</a>Keep<MG1127> watching<MG1127> and praying<MG4336>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> you will not come<MG2064> into temptation<MG3986>; the spirit<MG4151> is willing<MG4289>, but the flesh<MG4561> is weak<MG772>.” <a href="/mark/14-39.htm">39</a>And again<MG3825> He went<MG565> away<MG565> and prayed<MG4336>, saying<MG3004> the same<MG846> <a href="#fn">[x]</a>words<MG3056>. <a href="/mark/14-40.htm">40</a>And again<MG3825> He came<MG2064> and found<MG2147> them sleeping<MG2518>, for their eyes<MG3788> were heavy<MG2599b>; and they did not know<MG3609a> what<MG5101> to say<MG611> in<MG611> reply<MG611> to Him. <a href="/mark/14-41.htm">41</a>And He *came<MG2064> the third<MG5154> time<MG5154>, and *said<MG3004> to them, “Are you still<MG3062> sleeping<MG2518> and resting<MG373>? That is enough<MG568>. The hour<MG5610> has come<MG2064>; behold<MG2400>, the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> is being <a href="#fn">[y]</a>betrayed<MG3860> into the hands<MG5495> of sinners<MG268>. <a href="/mark/14-42.htm">42</a>Get<MG1453> up<MG1453>, let’s go<MG71>; behold<MG2400>, the one who is betraying<MG3860> Me is near<MG1448>!” Betrayal and Arrest<a href="/mark/14-43.htm">43</a>And immediately<MG2117>, while He was still<MG2089> speaking<MG2980>, Judas<MG2455>, one<MG1520> of the twelve<MG1427>, *came<MG3854> up, <a href="#fn">[z]</a>accompanied<MG3326, 846> by a crowd<MG3793> with swords<MG3162> and clubs<MG3586> who were from the chief<MG749> priests<MG749>, the scribes<MG1122>, and the elders<MG4245>. <a href="/mark/14-44.htm">44</a>Now<MG1161> he who was betraying<MG3860> Him had given<MG1325> them a signal<MG4953>, saying<MG3004>, “Whomever<MG3739, 302> I kiss<MG5368>, He is the one; arrest<MG2902> Him and lead<MG520> Him away<MG520> <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>under<MG806> guard<MG806>.” <a href="/mark/14-45.htm">45</a>And after coming<MG2064>, Judas immediately<MG2117> went<MG4334> to Him and *said<MG3004>, “Rabbi<MG4461>!” and kissed<MG2705> Him. <a href="/mark/14-46.htm">46</a>And they laid<MG1911> hands<MG5495> on<MG1911> Him and arrested<MG2902> Him. <a href="/mark/14-47.htm">47</a>But one<MG1520> of those<MG3588> who stood<MG3936> by drew<MG4685> his sword<MG3162>, and struck<MG3817> the slave<MG1401> of the high<MG749> priest<MG749> and <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>cut<MG851> off<MG851> his ear<MG5621a>. <a href="/mark/14-48.htm">48</a>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “Have you come<MG1831> out<MG1831> with swords<MG3162> and clubs<MG3586> to arrest<MG4815> Me, as you would against<MG1909> a man<MG3027> inciting<MG3027> a<MG3027> revolt<MG3027>? <a href="/mark/14-49.htm">49</a>Every<MG2596> day<MG2250> I was with you within<MG1722> the temple<MG2413> grounds teaching<MG1321>, and you did not arrest<MG2902> Me; but this has taken place so<MG2443> that<MG2443> the Scriptures<MG1124> will be fulfilled<MG4137>.” <a href="/mark/14-50.htm">50</a>And <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>His disciples all<MG3956> left<MG863> Him and fled<MG5343>. <a href="/mark/14-51.htm">51</a>A young<MG3495> man<MG3495> was following<MG4870> Him, wearing<MG4016> nothing but a linen<MG4616> sheet<MG4616> over<MG1909> his naked<MG1131> body; and they *seized<MG2902> him. <a href="/mark/14-52.htm">52</a>But he <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>pulled<MG2641> free<MG2641> of the linen<MG4616> sheet<MG4616> and escaped<MG5343> naked<MG1131>. Jesus before His Accusers<a href="/mark/14-53.htm">53</a>They led<MG520> Jesus<MG2424> away<MG520> to the high<MG749> priest<MG749>; and all<MG3956> the chief<MG749> priests<MG749>, the elders<MG4245>, and the scribes<MG1122> *gathered<MG4905> together<MG4905>. <a href="/mark/14-54.htm">54</a>And Peter<MG4074> had followed<MG190> Him at a distance<MG3113>, right<MG2193> into the courtyard<MG833> of the high<MG749> priest<MG749>; and he was sitting<MG4775> with the <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>officers<MG5257> and warming<MG2328> himself at the <a href="#fn">[af]</a>fire<MG5457>. <a href="/mark/14-55.htm">55</a>Now<MG1161> the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> and the entire<MG3650> <a href="#fn">[ag]</a>Council<MG4892> were trying<MG2212> to<MG2212> obtain<MG2212> testimony<MG3141> against<MG2596> Jesus<MG2424> to put<MG2289> Him to<MG2289> death<MG2289>, and they were not finding<MG2147> any. <a href="/mark/14-56.htm">56</a>For many<MG4183> people<MG4183> were giving<MG5576> false<MG5576> testimony<MG5576> against<MG2596> Him, and so their testimonies<MG3141> were not consistent<MG2470>. <a href="/mark/14-57.htm">57</a>And then some<MG5100> stood<MG450> up<MG450> and began giving<MG5576> false<MG5576> testimony<MG5576> against<MG2596> Him, saying<MG3004>, <a href="/mark/14-58.htm">58</a>“We heard<MG191> Him say<MG3004>, ‘I will destroy<MG2647> this<MG3778> <a href="#fn">[ah]</a>temple<MG3485> that was made<MG5499> by<MG5499> hands<MG5499>, and in three<MG5140> days<MG2250> I will build<MG3618> another<MG243>, made<MG886> without<MG886> hands<MG886>.’” <a href="/mark/14-59.htm">59</a>And not even<MG3761> in<MG3779> this<MG3779> respect<MG3779> was their testimony<MG3141> consistent<MG2470>. <a href="/mark/14-60.htm">60</a>And then the high<MG749> priest<MG749> stood<MG450> up<MG450> and came forward<MG1519, 3319> and questioned<MG1905> Jesus<MG2424>, saying<MG3004>, “Do You not offer<MG611> any<MG3762> answer<MG611> for what<MG5101> these<MG3778> men<MG3778> are testifying<MG2649> against<MG2649> You?” <a href="/mark/14-61.htm">61</a>But He kept<MG4623> silent<MG4623> and did not offer<MG611> any<MG3762> answer<MG611>. Again<MG3825> the high<MG749> priest<MG749> was questioning<MG1905> Him, and *said<MG3004> to Him, “Are You the <a href="#fn">[ai]</a>Christ<MG5547>, the Son<MG5207> of <a href="#fn">[aj]</a>the Blessed<MG2128> One?” <a href="/mark/14-62.htm">62</a>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004>, “I am<MG1510>; and you shall see<MG3708> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> sitting<MG2521> at the right<MG1188> hand<MG1188> of power<MG1411>, and coming<MG2064> with the clouds<MG3507> of heaven<MG3772>.” <a href="/mark/14-63.htm">63</a>Tearing<MG1284> his clothes<MG5509>, the high<MG749> priest<MG749> *said<MG3004>, “What<MG5101> further<MG2089> need<MG5532> do we have<MG2192> of witnesses<MG3144>? <a href="/mark/14-64.htm">64</a>You have heard<MG191> the blasphemy<MG988>; how<MG5101> does it seem<MG5316> to you?” And they all<MG3956> condemned<MG2632> Him as deserving<MG1777> of death<MG2288>. <a href="/mark/14-65.htm">65</a>And some<MG5100> began<MG757> to spit<MG1716> on Him, and <a href="#fn">[ak]</a>to blindfold<MG4028, 4383> Him, and to beat<MG2852> Him with<MG2852> their fists<MG2852> and say<MG3004> to Him, “Prophesy<MG4395>!” Then the officers<MG5257> took<MG2983> custody<MG2983> of Him <a href="#fn">[al]</a>and slapped<MG4475> Him in the face. Peter’s Denials<a href="/mark/14-66.htm">66</a>And while Peter<MG4074> was below<MG2736> in the courtyard<MG833>, one<MG1520> of the slave<MG3814> women<MG3814> of the high<MG749> priest<MG749> *came<MG2064>, <a href="/mark/14-67.htm">67</a>and seeing<MG3708> Peter<MG4074> warming<MG2328> himself, she looked<MG1689> at<MG1689> him and *said<MG3004>, “You were with Jesus<MG2424> the Nazarene<MG3479> as<MG2532> well<MG2532>.” <a href="/mark/14-68.htm">68</a>But he denied<MG720> it, saying<MG3004>, “I neither<MG3777> know<MG3609a> nor<MG3777> understand<MG1987> what<MG5101> you are talking<MG3004> about.” And he went<MG1831> out<MG1831> onto<MG1519> the <a href="#fn">[am]</a>porch<MG4259>.<a href="#fn">[an]</a> <a href="/mark/14-69.htm">69</a>The slave<MG3814> woman<MG3814> saw<MG3708> him, and began<MG757> once<MG3825> more<MG3825> to say<MG3004> to the bystanders<MG3936>, “This<MG3778> man<MG3778> is one of them!” <a href="/mark/14-70.htm">70</a>But again<MG3825> he denied<MG720> it.
