Learn more about the <a href="https://support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/articles/360046231254" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Benefits of a personal JSTOR account</a>.</p> <p>To create new users:</p> <ol> <li>Log into <a href="https://www.jstor.org/admin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JSTOR Admin</a> with a personal account that has administrative permissions.<br> <ul> <li>Not an admin yet? See <a href="https://support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/articles/360047017874#adminaccount" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Accessing JSTOR Admin</a> to get started.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Select <strong>User Management</strong> in the JSTOR Admin sidebar.</li> <li>Click the <strong>Add users</strong> button.</li> <li>Enter one or more email addresses in the "Email Address" field. <ul> <li>You can enter multiple email addresses separated by commas to add users in bulk.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Optionally, select the "<span slot="label">These user(s) are JSTOR administrators</span>" checkbox to grant users administrative permissions.<br> <ul> <li>See <a href="#grantingAdminPermissions" target="_self">"Granting users admin permissions"</a> for more information.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Click the <strong>Submit</strong> button.</li> </ol> <p>Users whose email addresses are not already associated with a personal JSTOR account will receive an invitation to complete their registration and their account will be paired to your institution.</p> <ul> <li>If a user's email address is already associated with a personal JSTOR account but doesn't appear in the user list, they'll receive an email notifying them that now have access to JSTOR through your institution.</li> <li>If they already appear in the user list, their remote access period will simply be renewed.</li> </ul> <div style="background: var(--pharos-alert-color-background-info); border: 1px solid var(--pharos-alert-color-border-info); border-radius: var(--pharos-radius-base-standard); padding: var(--pharos-spacing-1-x);"> <strong>Note:</strong> The registration link in the invitation email will expire after 30 days, after which users may either <a href="https://www.jstor.org/action/resetPassword" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">request a password reset</a> to register their account or ask an administrator to <a href="#resendInvite">resend the invitation</a>.</div> <h2 id="resendInvite">Resending an invitation</h2> <p>If a user didn't receive or loses their invitation email, or didn't register their account within 30 days of receiving it, you can resend an invitation from the <a href="https://www.jstor.org/admin/user-management" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">User Management</a> page in JSTOR Admin.</p> <p><img src="/hc/article_attachments/16646833597719" alt="User Management page account context drop-down menu"></p> <p>To resend an invitation:</p> <ol> <li>Log into <a href="https://www.jstor.org/admin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JSTOR Admin</a> with a personal account that has administrative permissions.<br> <ul> <li>Not an admin yet? See <a href="https://support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/articles/360047017874#adminaccount" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Accessing JSTOR Admin</a> to get started.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Select <strong>User Management</strong> in the JSTOR Admin sidebar.</li> <li>Open the drop-down menu for the user. <ul> <li>You may only resend an invitation to users whose status is "Invited" in the user list.</li> <li>If the user is "Active", their account has already been registered and they can <a href="https://www.jstor.org/action/resetPassword" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">request a password reset</a> if needed.</li> <li>If the user is "Expired", you can <a href="#renewingOrExpiringAccess">renew their access</a>.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Select <strong>Resend invitation</strong> from the drop-down menu.</li> </ol> <h2 id="deletingUsers">Deleting user accounts</h2> <p>While it's not currently possible to delete or archive user accounts through the User Management page, you can expire a user's access through your institution.</p> <p>See <a href="#renewingOrExpiringAccess">Renewing or expiring access for users</a> for more information.</p> <h2 id="renewingOrExpiringAccess">Renewing or expiring access for users</h2> <p>When you create personal accounts through the User Management page in JSTOR Admin, they'll be automatically paired to your institution.</p> <p>Remote access to JSTOR through personal account pairing lasts 365 days.</p><p>Personal account pairing to your institution will be automatically renewed when logging into JSTOR while on campus, or using one of your institution's registered <a href="https://support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/articles/115004983547" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">remote access methods</a>.</p> <p>Administrators can also renew access manually or expire an account's access through the User Management page.</p> <div style="background: var(--pharos-alert-color-background-info); border: 1px solid var(--pharos-alert-color-border-info); border-radius: var(--pharos-radius-base-standard); padding: var(--pharos-spacing-1-x);"> <strong>Note:</strong> Remote access for accounts with administrative permissions doesn't expire.</div> <p><img src="/hc/article_attachments/8068712256151" alt="User Management page account context drop-down menu"></p> <p>To renew or expire access for a user:</p> <ol> <li>Log into <a href="https://www.jstor.org/admin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JSTOR Admin</a> with a personal account that has administrative permissions.<br> <ul> <li>Not an admin yet? Learn more about <a href="https://support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/articles/360047017874">Using your JSTOR Admin account</a>.</p> <p>Existing administrators can invite users to create a personal account with admin permissions or grant existing users admin permissions through the User Management page in JSTOR Admin.</p> <p>To invite users to create a personal account with admin permissions:</p> <ol> <li>Log into <a href="https://www.jstor.org/admin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JSTOR Admin</a> with a personal account that has administrative permissions.<br> <ul> <li>Not an admin yet? See <a href="https://support.jstor.org/hc/en-us/articles/360047017874#adminaccount" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Accessing JSTOR Admin</a> to get started.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Select <strong>User Management</strong> in the JSTOR Admin sidebar.</li> <li>Open the drop-down menu for the user.</li> <li>Select <strong>Grant admin permissions</strong> from the drop-down menu.</li> <li>Confirm your selection.</li> </ol> <h2 id="viewingUsers">Viewing, searching, and downloading the user list</h2> <p>On the User Management page, you can view the email address, status, remote access expiration date, role, and last log in date for each of your institution's existing users.</p> <p>You can also search the user list using the search bar above the table. Please note that only full email addresses can be searched, and partial searches are not currently supported.</p> <p>User statuses include:</p> <ul> <li> <strong>Invited</strong> - An invitation has been emailed to the user to register their personal JSTOR account. You can <a href="#resendInvite">resend an invitation</a> email to users with this status.</li> <li> <strong>Active</strong> - The user's account has been registered, paired with your institution, and their remote access period is active.
