Teniendo en cuenta su rico e interesante pasado, esa negligencia es lamentable y es el resultado de prejuicios mal informados, y no de juicios bien fundados. Las contribuciones de sus pensadores se consideraban simples copias de los trabajos de filósofos españoles y portugueses, y no había mucho interés por investigar las contribuciones de las colonias, porque que la opinión generalizada era que la tradición intelectual, como la política, estaba dominada por los colonizadores.
