Conjugated molecules and polymers bearing heterocyclic units have potential as optically electroactive materials. Thiazolo thiazole based compounds have attention for last two decades, because they have attractive electronic and optical properties, these compounds are useful for electronic application areas such as dye sentisized solar cells (DSSCs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and field effect transistors (FETs). Thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole is bicyclic aromatic structure contains N and S atoms which act as electron donor. A new electron accepting or donating group bound to thiazolo [5,4-d] thiazole fused ring can change the electronic, spectroscopic, stability and dyeing properties of the new material. Polyphenylene(thiazolo [5,4-d] thiazole) (p-PhTT) compound was synthesized via condensation reaction of terephthalaldehyde with dithiooxamide. The chemical structure was determined with solid state 13C NMR spectroscopy. Optical properties (i.e. absorbance and band gap) was determined via solid UV-vis spectroscopy. The insoluble polymer was quarternized with 4-vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC). Colorless VBC changed into a yellow liquid. AgNO3 complex were prepared and optical properties were investigated with UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy and X-ray spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry studies were examined in this research. This structure exhibits good absorbance and fluorescence in UV-vis region. Synthesis scheme of PyTT and preparation of metal complexes are given. PyTT has absorbance at ~360 nm and fluorescence at ~420 nm. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thiazolo%20thiazole" title="thiazolo thiazole">thiazolo thiazole</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarternized%20polymers" title=" quarternized polymers"> quarternized polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polymeric%20ligands" title=" polymeric ligands"> polymeric ligands</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ag%20complexes" title=" Ag complexes"> Ag complexes</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69072/thiazolo-54-d-thiazole-based-polymers-and-investigation-of-optical-properties-for-electronic-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69072.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">264</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2313</span> New Method for Determining the Distribution of Birefringence and Linear Dichroism in Polymer Materials Based on Polarization-Holographic Grating</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Barbara%20Kilosanidze">Barbara Kilosanidze</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=George%20Kakauridze"> George Kakauridze</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Levan%20Nadareishvili"> Levan Nadareishvili</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuri%20Mshvenieradze"> Yuri Mshvenieradze</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A new method for determining the distribution of birefringence and linear dichroism in optical polymer materials is presented. The method is based on the use of polarization-holographic diffraction grating that forms an orthogonal circular basis in the process of diffraction of probing laser beam on the grating. The intensities ratio of the orders of diffraction on this grating enables the value of birefringence and linear dichroism in the sample to be determined. The distribution of birefringence in the sample is determined by scanning with a circularly polarized beam with a wavelength far from the absorption band of the material. If the scanning is carried out by probing beam with the wavelength near to a maximum of the absorption band of the chromophore then the distribution of linear dichroism can be determined. An appropriate theoretical model of this method is presented. A laboratory setup was created for the proposed method. An optical scheme of the laboratory setup is presented. The results of measurement in polymer films with two-dimensional gradient distribution of birefringence and linear dichroism are discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=birefringence" title="birefringence">birefringence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20dichroism" title=" linear dichroism"> linear dichroism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graded%20oriented%20polymers" title=" graded oriented polymers"> graded oriented polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20polymers" title=" optical polymers"> optical polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20anisotropy" title=" optical anisotropy"> optical anisotropy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polarization-holographic%20grating" title=" polarization-holographic grating"> polarization-holographic grating</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15328/new-method-for-determining-the-distribution-of-birefringence-and-linear-dichroism-in-polymer-materials-based-on-polarization-holographic-grating" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15328.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">432</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2312</span> Synthesis of Telechelic Polymers for Asphalt Pavements</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paula%20C%20Arroyo">Paula C Arroyo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norma%20A%20S%C3%A1nchez"> Norma A Sánchez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mikhail%20Tlenkopatchev"> Mikhail Tlenkopatchev</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The continuous growth in population has resulted in an increment in road construction. The road construction requires more lasting and resistant pavements. Among the different applications of polymers, the reinforcement of pavements throw the modification of asphalt has demonstrated to be an area of special interest for new polymers. The modified asphalt should exhibit a considerable good performance, good elastic properties and an increment in the performance grade (PG). Some of the current polymers used in asphalt are styrene butadiene styrene (SBS), poly(n-butyl methacrylate)-(glycidyl methacrylate) and ethylene-vinyl acetate EVA. The goal of this study was to synthesize low molecular weight (2,000 – 150,000 D) telechelic polymers to be applied at low concentrations in asphalt in order to modify its rheological properties and make it more resistant and durable. The telechelic polymers were obtained from different molar relationships between tensioned and functionalized olefins by ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and cross metathesis (CR). The synthesis was carried out under inert conditions with Grubbs second generation catalyst. The reaction efficiency was superior to 96% and telechelic polymers were characterized. The telechelic polymers were used to modify asphalt and the rheological properties of the modified asphalt were evaluated finding that at low concentrations (1%) the PG increased in one or two degrees. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asphalt%20polymers" title="asphalt polymers">asphalt polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metathesis%20polymers" title=" metathesis polymers"> metathesis polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=telechelic%20polymers" title=" telechelic polymers"> telechelic polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modified%20asphalt" title=" modified asphalt"> modified asphalt</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43987/synthesis-of-telechelic-polymers-for-asphalt-pavements" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43987.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">274</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2311</span> Preparation of Metal Containing Epoxy Polymer and Investigation of Their Properties as Fluorescent Probe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ertu%C4%9F%20Y%C4%B1ld%C4%B1r%C4%B1m">Ertuğ Yıldırım</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dile%20Kara"> Dile Kara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salih%20Zeki%20Y%C4%B1ld%C4%B1z"> Salih Zeki Yıldız </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Metal containing polymers (MCPs) are macro molecules usually containing metal-ligand coordination units and are a multidisciplinary research field mainly based at the interface between coordination chemistry and polymer science. The progress of this area has also been reinforced by the growth of several other closely related disciplines including macro molecular engineering, crystal engineering, organic synthesis, supra molecular chemistry and colloidal and material science. Schiff base ligands are very effective in constructing supra molecular architectures such as coordination polymers, double helical and triple helical complexes. In addition, Schiff base derivatives incorporating a fluorescent moiety are appealing tools for optical sensing of metal ions. MCPs are well-known systems in which the combinations of local parameters are possible by means of fluoro metric techniques. Generally, without incorporation of the fluorescent groups with polymers is unspecific, and it is not useful to analyze their fluorescent properties. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare a new type epoxy polymers with fluorescent groups in terms of metal sensing prop and the other photo chemical applications. In the present study metal containing polymers were prepared via poly functional monomeric Schiff base metal chelate complexes in the presence of dis functional monomers such as diglycidyl ether Bisphenol A (DGEBA). The synthesized complexes and polymers were characterized by FTIR, UV-VIS and mass spectroscopies. The preparations of epoxy polymers have been carried out at 185 °C. The prepared composites having sharp and narrow excitation/emission properties are expected to be applicable in various systems such as heat-resistant polymers and photo voltaic devices. The prepared composite is also ideal for various applications, easily prepared, safe, and maintain good fluorescence properties. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Schiff%20base%20ligands" title="Schiff base ligands">Schiff base ligands</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crystal%20engineering" title=" crystal engineering"> crystal engineering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluorescence%20properties" title=" fluorescence properties"> fluorescence properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Metal%20Containing%20Polymers%20%28MCPs%29" title=" Metal Containing Polymers (MCPs)"> Metal Containing Polymers (MCPs)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17655/preparation-of-metal-containing-epoxy-polymer-and-investigation-of-their-properties-as-fluorescent-probe" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17655.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">347</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2310</span> Synthesis of Pyrimidine-Based Polymers Consist of 2-{4-[4,6-Bis-(4-Hexyl-Thiophen-2-yl)-Pyrimidin-2-yl]-Phenyl}-Thiazolo[5,4-B]Pyridine with Deep HOMO Level for Photovoltaics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyehyeon%20Lee">Hyehyeon Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jiwon%20Yu"> Jiwon Yu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juwon%20Kim"> Juwon Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raquel%20Kristina%20Leoni%20Tumiar"> Raquel Kristina Leoni Tumiar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taewon%20Kim"> Taewon Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juae%20Kim"> Juae Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hongsuk%20Suh"> Hongsuk Suh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Photovoltaics, which have many advantages in cost, easy processing, and light-weight, have attracted attention. One of the serious problems in this network is the fact that optical crosstalk is additive, and thus the aggregate effect of crosstalk over a whole AON may be more nefarious than a single point of crosstalk. As results, we note a huge degradation of the Quality of Service (QoS) in our network. For that, it is necessary to identify and monitor the impairments in whole network. In this way, this paper presents new system to identify and monitor crosstalk in AONs in real-time fashion. particular, it proposes a new technique to manage intra-crosstalk in objective to relax QoS of the network. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=all-optical%20networks" title="all-optical networks">all-optical networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20crosstalk" title=" optical crosstalk"> optical crosstalk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20cross-connect" title=" optical cross-connect"> optical cross-connect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crosstalk" title=" crosstalk"> crosstalk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=monitoring%20crosstalk" title=" monitoring crosstalk"> monitoring crosstalk</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40796/monitoring-and-prediction-of-intra-crosstalk-in-all-optical-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40796.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">463</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2308</span> Optical Multicast over OBS Networks: An Approach Based on Code-Words and Tunable Decoders</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maha%20Sliti">Maha Sliti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Walid%20Abdallah"> Walid Abdallah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noureddine%20Boudriga"> Noureddine Boudriga</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the frame of this work, we present an optical multicasting approach based on optical code-words. The use of code-words, which correspond to the combination of an input port and a set of output ports, allows the implementation of an optical switching matrix. At the reception of a burst, it will be delayed in an optical memory. And, the received optical code-word is split to a set of tunable optical decoders. The distinguishing feature of CPP materials is that they combine microporosity and high surface areas with extended conjugation, making them ideal for versatile applications such as separation, catalysis and energy storage. By applying a modular approach to synthesis, chemical and electronic properties of CPPs can be tailored for specific applications making these materials economical alternatives to inorganic semiconductors. Direct arylation - an environmentally benign alternative to traditional polymerization reactions – is one such reaction that extensively over the last decade for the synthesis of linear p-conjugated polymers. In this report, we present the synthesis and characterization of a new series of robust conjugated porous polymers synthesized by facile direct arylation polymerization of thiophene-flanked acceptor building blocks with multi-brominated aryls with different geometries. We observed that the porosities and morphologies of the polymers are determined by the chemical structure of the aryl bromide used. Moreover, good control of the optical bandgap in the range 2.53 - 1.3 eV could be obtained by using different building blocks. Structure-property relationships demonstrated in this study suggest that direct arylation polymerization is an attractive synthetic tool for the rational design of porous organic materials with tunable photo-physical properties for applications in photocatalysis, energy storage and conversion. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=direct%20arylation" title="direct arylation">direct arylation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conjugated%20porous%20polymers" title=" conjugated porous polymers"> conjugated porous polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=triazine" title=" triazine"> triazine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalysis" title=" photocatalysis"> photocatalysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84763/rational-design-and-synthesis-of-2d3d-conjugated-porous-polymers-via-facile-and-greener-direct-arylation-polycondensation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84763.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">294</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2305</span> Enhanced Constraint-Based Optical Network (ECON) for Enhancing OSNR</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G.%20R.%20Kavitha">G. Maximum data transmission using optimization of the communication channel poses the biggest challenge. Although there has been a constant focus on this area from the past decade, there was no evidence of a significant result that has been accomplished. Hence, after reviewing some potential design of optical network from literatures, it was understood that optical signal to noise ratio was one of the elementary attributes that can define the performance of the optical network. In this paper, we propose a framework termed as ECON (Enhanced Constraint-based Optical Network) that primarily optimize the optical signal to noise ratio using ROADM. The simulation is performed in Matlab and optical signal to noise ratio is extracted considering the system matrix. The outcome of the proposed study shows that optimized OSNR as compared to the existing studies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=component" title="component">component</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20network" title=" optical network"> optical network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reconfigurable%20optical%20add-drop%20multiplexer" title=" reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer"> reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20signal-to-noise%20ratio" title=" optical signal-to-noise ratio"> optical signal-to-noise ratio</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17847/enhanced-constraint-based-optical-network-econ-for-enhancing-osnr" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17847.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">488</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2304</span> Fabrication of Optical Tissue Phantoms Simulating Human Skin and Their Application</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jihoon%20Park">Jihoon Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sungkon%20Yu"> Sungkon Yu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Byungjo%20Jung"> Byungjo Jung</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Although various optical tissue phantoms (OTPs) simulating human skin have been actively studied, their completeness is unclear because skin tissue has the intricate optical property and complicated structure disturbing the optical simulation. Two different regions can be observed on the flow curve of some of the polymers and their blends, which is thought to be due to slip-stick transition or melt fracture. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polypropylene" title="polypropylene">polypropylene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethylene%20vinyl%20acetate" title=" ethylene vinyl acetate"> ethylene vinyl acetate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blends" title=" blends"> blends</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rheological%20properties" title=" rheological properties"> rheological properties</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7141/rheological-properties-of-ppeva-blends" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7141.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">475</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2298</span> Investigation of the Effect of Phosphorous on the Flame Retardant Polyacrylonitrile Nanofiber</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mustafa%20Y%C4%B1lmaz">Mustafa Yılmaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmet%20Akar"> Ahmet Akar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nesrin%20K%C3%B6ken"> Nesrin Köken</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nilg%C3%BCn%20K%C4%B1z%C4%B1lcan"> Nilgün Kızılcan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Commercially available poly(acrylonitrile-co-vinyl acetate) P(AN-VA) or poly(acrylonitrile-co-methyl acrylate) P(AN-MA) are not satisfactory to meet the demand in flame and fire-resistance. The anisotropic nature of charge transport in conjugated polymers is capitalized upon through the uniaxial alignment of polymer backbones, ensuring charge transport is streamlined along these backbones. Ion exchange doping has demonstrated superiority over traditional molecular and electrochemical doping methods, amplifying charge carrier densities. By integrating these two techniques, we've observed marked improvements in the thermoelectric attributes of specific conjugated polymers such as PBTTT and DPP based polymers. We demonstrate respectable power factors of 172.6 μW m⁻¹ K⁻² in PBTTT system and 41.7 μW m⁻¹ K⁻² in DPP system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organic%20electronics" title="organic electronics">organic electronics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoelectrics" title=" thermoelectrics"> thermoelectrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uniaxial%20alignment" title=" uniaxial alignment"> uniaxial alignment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ion%20exchange%20doping" title=" ion exchange doping"> ion exchange doping</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/178330/uniaxial-alignment-and-ion-exchange-doping-to-enhance-the-thermoelectric-properties-of-organic-polymers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/178330.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">69</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2293</span> Tapered Double Cantilever Beam: Evaluation of the Test Set-up for Self-Healing Polymers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eleni%20Tsangouri">Eleni Tsangouri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xander%20Hillewaere"> Xander Hillewaere</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Garoz%20G%C3%B3mez"> David Garoz Gómez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dimitrios%20Aggelis"> Dimitrios Aggelis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Filip%20Du%20Prez"> Filip Du Prez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Danny%20Van%20Hemelrijck"> Danny Van Hemelrijck</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Tapered Double Cantilever Beam (TDCB) is the most commonly used test set-up to evaluate the self-healing feature of thermoset polymers autonomously activated in the presence of crack. One special technique for producing well-defined chiral polymers is asymmetric kinetic resolution polymerization (AKRP), which adds stereo regularity to a polymer chain by the kinetic resolution of a race mate preferentially polymerizing one enantiomer. Apart from making it possible to characterize chiral polymers enantioselective, AKRP can synthesize chiral polymers with high stereo selectivity. This review includes the literature on the use of enzymes, chiral metal complexes, and organ catalysts as AKRP promoters. One enantiomer reacts more quickly than the other in this kind of polymerisation, quickly entering the expanding polymer chain, while the kinetically less reactive enantiomer stays unreactive and is readily separated using straightforward purification techniques. The degree of chiral induction and overall chirality of the chiral polymers that are generated may be assessed using the enantiomeric excess (ee) of the initial monomer, which is frequently determined by chiral HPLC analysis, throughout the polymerisation process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stereo%20regularity" title="stereo regularity">stereo regularity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polymers" title=" polymers"> polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamical" title=" dynamical"> dynamical</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=symmetric" title=" symmetric"> symmetric</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193168/symmetric-polymerization-with-dynamical-resolution" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/193168.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">13</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2288</span> Electroactive Fluorene-Based Polymer Films Obtained by Electropolymerization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mariana-Dana%20Damaceanu">Mariana-Dana Damaceanu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Electrochemical oxidation is one of the most convenient ways to obtain conjugated polymer films as polypyrrole, polyaniline, polythiophene or polycarbazole. The research in the field has been mainly directed to the study of electrical conduction properties of the materials obtained by electropolymerization, often the main reason being their use as electroconducting electrodes, and very little attention has been paid to the morphological and optical quality of the films electrodeposited on flat surfaces. Electropolymerization of the monomer solution was scarcely used in the past to manufacture polymer-based light-emitting diodes (PLED), most probably due to the difficulty of obtaining defectless polymer films with good mechanical and optical properties, or conductive polymers with well controlled molecular weights. Here we report our attempts in using electrochemical deposition as appropriate method for preparing ultrathin films of fluorene-based polymers for PLED applications. The properties of these films were evaluated in terms of structural morphology, optical properties, and electrochemical conduction. Thus, electropolymerization of 4,4'-(9-fluorenylidene)-dianiline was performed in dichloromethane solution, at a concentration of 10-2 M, using 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate as electrolyte salt. The potential was scanned between 0 and 1.3 V on the one hand, and 0 - 2 V on the other hand, when polymer films with different structures and properties were obtained. Indium tin oxide-coated glass substrate of different size was used as working electrode, platinum wire as counter electrode and calomel electrode as reference. For each potential range 100 cycles were recorded at a scan rate of 100 mV/s. The film obtained in the potential range from 0 to 1.3 V, namely poly(FDA-NH), is visible to the naked eye, being light brown, transparent and fluorescent, and displays an amorphous morphology. Instead, the electrogrowth poly(FDA) film in the potential range of 0 - 2 V is yellowish-brown and opaque, presenting a self-assembled structure in aggregates of irregular shape and size. The polymers structure was identified by FTIR spectroscopy, which shows the presence of broad bands specific to a polymer, the band centered at approx. 3443 cm-1 being ascribed to the secondary amine. The two polymer films display two absorption maxima, at 434-436 nm assigned to π-π* transitions of polymers, and another at 832 and 880 nm assigned to polaron transitions. The fluorescence spectra indicated the presence of emission bands in the blue domain, with two peaks at 422 and 488 nm for poly (FDA-NH), and four narrow peaks at 422, 447, 460 and 484 nm for poly(FDA), peaks originating from fluorene-containing segments of varying degrees of conjugation. Poly(FDA-NH) exhibited two oxidation peaks in the anodic region and the HOMO energy value of 5.41 eV, whereas poly(FDA) showed only one oxidation peak and the HOMO level localized at 5.29 eV. The electrochemical data are discussed in close correlation with the proposed chemical structure of the electrogrowth films. Further research will be carried out to study their use and performance in light-emitting devices. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrogrowth%20polymer%20films" title="electrogrowth polymer films">electrogrowth polymer films</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluorene" title=" fluorene"> fluorene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology" title=" morphology"> morphology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20properties" title=" optical properties"> optical properties</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28200/electroactive-fluorene-based-polymer-films-obtained-by-electropolymerization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28200.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">345</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2287</span> Rheological Modeling for Shape-Memory Thermoplastic Polymers </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Hosseini">H. Shape-memory occurs as a result of internal rearrangement of the structural elements of a polymer. A non-linear viscoelastic model was developed that allows qualitative and quantitative prediction of the stress-strain behavior of shape-memory polymers during heating. This research was done to develop a technique to determine the maximum possible change in size of heat-shrinkable products during heating. The rheological model used in this work was particularly suitable for defining process parameters and constructive parameters of the processing equipment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elastic%20deformation" title="elastic deformation">elastic deformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heating" title=" heating"> heating</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shape-memory%20polymers" title=" shape-memory polymers"> shape-memory polymers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress-strain%20behavior" title=" stress-strain behavior"> stress-strain behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viscoelastic%20model" title=" viscoelastic model"> viscoelastic model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34080/rheological-modeling-for-shape-memory-thermoplastic-polymers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34080.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">323</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2286</span> Use of Polymeric Materials in the Architectural Preservation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=F.%20Z.%20Benabid">F. PVDF provides a great easiness to processing, a good UV resistance and good chemical inertia. Although the quality of physical characteristics of the PMMA and its low price with a respect to PVDF, its deterioration against UV radiations limits its use as protector agent for the stones. On the other hand, PVDF/PMMA blend is a compromise of a great development in the field of architectural restoration, since it is the best method in term of quality and price to make new polymeric materials having enhanced properties. Films of different compositions based on the two polymers within an adequate solvent (DMF) were obtained to perform an exposition to artificial ageing and to the salted fog, a spectroscopic analysis (FTIR and UV) and optical analysis (refractive index). Based on its great interest in the field of building, a variety of standard tests has been elaborated for the first time at the central laboratory of ENAP (Souk-Ahras) in order to evaluate our blend performance. The obtained results have allowed observing the behavior of the different compositions of the blend under various tests. The addition of PVDF to PMMA enhances the properties of this last to know the exhibition to the natural and artificial ageing and to the saline fog. On the other hand, PMMA enhances the optical properties of the blend. Finally, 70/30 composition of the blend is in concordance with results of previous works and it is the adequate proportion for an eventual application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong>
