And in like manner also said they all.<p> <A name="33"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Prays at Gethsemane<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#36">Matthew 26:36–46</a>; <a href ="../luke/22.htm#39">Luke 22:39–46</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And they come to a place the name of which is Gethsemane. And He saith to His disciples, <FR>"Sit ye here, while I pray."<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And He taketh with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and to be in distress. <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And He saith to them, <FR>"My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, unto death! Abide here, and watch."<Fr> <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And going forward a little, He fell on the ground, and was praying, that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from Him. <A name="37"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And He said, <FR>"Abba, Father, all things are possible to Thee; take away this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what Thou wilt."<Fr> <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And He cometh and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, <FR>"Simon, are you sleeping? were you not able to watch one hour?<Fr> <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span><FR>Watch, and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit, indeed, is willing, but the flesh is weak."<Fr> <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And, going away again, He prayed, saying the same thing. <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And, returning, He found them again sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they knew not what to answer Him. <A name="42"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And He cometh the third time, and saith to them, <FR>"Sleep on the remaining <i>time</i>, and take your rest. It is enough; the hour came; behold, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.<Fr> <A name="43"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span><FR>Arise, let us be going. Behold, he that is betraying Me has come near."<Fr><p> <A name="44"></a><p class="hdg">The Betrayal of Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#47">Matthew 26:47–56</a>; <a href ="../luke/22.htm#47">Luke 22:47–53</a>; <a href ="../john/18.htm">John 18:1–14</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>And straightway, while He yet spake, comes Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a multitude with swords and clubs, from the high priests and the scribes and the elders. <A name="45"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>Now he that was betraying Him gave them a signal, saying, "Whomsoever I shall kiss, This is He, take Him, and lead Him away securely." <A name="46"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>And, having come, going straightway to Him, he says, "Rabbi;" and kissed Him. <A name="47"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>And they laid hands on Him, and took Him. <A name="48"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>And one of those standing by, having drawn <i>his</i> sword, smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear. <A name="49"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>And Jesus answering, said to them, <FR>"Did ye come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs, to seize Me?<Fr> <A name="50"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span><FR>I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not take Me; but <i>this is done</i> that the Scriptures may be fulfilled."<Fr> <A name="51"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>And, having left Him, they all fled.<p> <A name="52"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>And a certain young man was following with Him, having a linen cloth thrown around his naked <i>body</i>; and they lay hold on him; <A name="53"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>but, leaving the linen cloth, he fled naked.<p> <A name="54"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus before the Sanhedrin<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#57">Matthew 26:57–68</a>; <a href ="../luke/22.htm#66">Luke 22:66–71</a>; <a href ="../john/18.htm#19">John 18:19–24</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-53.htm"><b>53</b></a></span>And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and there come together with him all the high priests and the elders and the scribes. <A name="55"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-54.htm"><b>54</b></a></span>And Peter followed Him afar off, even within into the court of the high priest; and he was sitting with the attendants, and he was warming himself at the light <i>of the fire.</i> <A name="56"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-55.htm"><b>55</b></a></span>And the high priests and all the Sanhedrin were seeking for testimony against Jesus, in order to put Him to death; and they were not finding it. <A name="57"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-56.htm"><b>56</b></a></span>For many were bearing false testimony against Him, and their testimonies were not agreed. <A name="58"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-57.htm"><b>57</b></a></span>And certain ones, standing up, were bearing false testimony against Him, saying, <A name="59"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-58.htm"><b>58</b></a></span>"We heard Him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.'" <A name="60"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-59.htm"><b>59</b></a></span>And not even so did their testimony agree. <A name="61"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-60.htm"><b>60</b></a></span>And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, "Dost Thou answer nothing? What do these testify against Thee?" <A name="62"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-61.htm"><b>61</b></a></span>But He was silent, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, and says to Him, "Art Thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" <A name="63"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-62.htm"><b>62</b></a></span>And Jesus said, <FR>"I am; and ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."<Fr> <A name="64"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-63.htm"><b>63</b></a></span>And the high priest, rending his clothes, says, "What further need have we of witnesses? <A name="65"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-64.htm"><b>64</b></a></span>Ye heard the blasphemy: what think ye?" And they all condemned Him to be worthy of death. <A name="66"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-65.htm"><b>65</b></a></span>And some began to spit on Him, and to cover His face, and to buffet Him, and to say to Him, "Prophesy;" and the officers received Him with blows of their hands.<p> <A name="67"></a><p class="hdg">Peter Denies Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#69">Matthew 26:69–75</a>; <a href ="../luke/22.htm#54">Luke 22:54–62</a>; <a href ="../john/18.htm#15">John 18:15–18</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-66.htm"><b>66</b></a></span>And, as Peter was beneath in the court, there comes one of the maids of the high priest; <A name="68"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-67.htm"><b>67</b></a></span>and, seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him, and says, "You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus." <A name="69"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-68.htm"><b>68</b></a></span>But he denied, saying, "I neither know nor understand what you are saying." And he went out into the porch [and the cock crowed]. <A name="70"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-69.htm"><b>69</b></a></span>And the maid, seeing him, began again to say to those standing by, This is one of them." <A name="71"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-70.htm"><b>70</b></a></span>But he again denied. And, after a little while, those who stood by said to Peter, "Of a truth you are <i>one</i> of them; for you are a Galilaean." <A name="72"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-71.htm"><b>71</b></a></span>But he began to curse, and to swear, "I know not This Man of Whom ye speak." <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/14-72.htm"><b>72</b></a></span>And straightway the second time the cock crowed.
