He blasphemeth! Who can forgive sins but One, God?" <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And straightway Jesus, perceiving in His spirit that they so reason within themselves, saith to them, <FR>"Why do ye reason these things in your hearts?<Fr> <A name="10"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><FR>Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?'<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>But, that ye may know the Son of Man hath authority on earth to forgive sins<Fr> (He saith to the paralytic). <A name="12"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><FR>I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."<Fr> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And he arose, and, straightway taking up the bed, went forth before them all; so that all were amazed, and glorified God, saying, "We never saw it thus!"<p> <A name="14"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Calls Levi<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/9.htm#9">Matthew 9:9–13</a>; <a href ="../luke/5.htm#27">Luke 5:27–32</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He went again by the sea; and all the multitude were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.<p> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And passing by, He saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax-office, and saith to him, <FR>"Follow Me."<Fr> And, rising up, he followed Him.<p> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And it comes to pass that He reclines <i>at table</i> in his house, and many tax-collectors and sinners recline with Him and His disciples; for there were many, and they were following Him. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And the scribes of the Pharisees, seeing that He was eating with the sinners and tax-collectors, said to His disciples, "Why doth He eat with the tax-collectors and sinners?" <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/2-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And Jesus, hearing <i>it</i>, says to them, <FR>"Those who are well need not a physician, but those who are sick.
