<t><p class="indent1">For your people<MH5971a> are like those who contend<MH7378> with a priest<MH3548>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>So you will stumble<MH3782> by day<MH3117>, <t><p class="indent1">And the prophet<MH5030> also<MH1571> will stumble<MH3782> with you by night<MH3915>; <t><p class="indent1">And I will destroy<MH1820> your mother<MH517>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>My people<MH5971a> are destroyed<MH1820> for lack<MH369> of knowledge<MH1847>. <t><p class="indent1">Since<MH3588> you have rejected<MH3988a> knowledge<MH1847>, <t><p class="indent1">I also will reject<MH3988a> you from being<MH3547> My priest<MH3547>. <t><p class="indent1">Since you have forgotten<MH7911> the Law<MH8451> of your God<MH430>, <t><p class="indent1">I also<MH1571> will forget<MH7911> your children<MH1121>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>The more they multiplied<MH7231>, the more<MH3651> they sinned<MH2398> against Me; <t><p class="indent1">I will change<MH4171> their glory<MH3519b> into shame<MH7036>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>They feed<MH398> on the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> of My people<MH5971a>, <t><p class="indent1">And long<MH5375, 5315> for their wrongdoing<MH5771>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And it will be, like people<MH5971a>, like priest<MH3548>; <t><p class="indent1">They will play<MH2181> the<MH2181> prostitute<MH2181>, but not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>increase<MH6555>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> they gave<MH5800a> up<MH5800a> devoting<MH8104> themselves to the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Infidelity<MH2184>, wine<MH3196>, and new<MH8492> wine<MH8492> take<MH3947> away the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>understanding<MH3820>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>My people<MH5971a> consult<MH7592> their wooden<MH6086> idol, and their <i>diviner’s</i> wand<MH4731> informs<MH5046> them; <t><p class="indent1">For a spirit<MH7307> of infidelity<MH2183> has led<MH8582> <i>them</i> astray<MH8582>, <t><p class="indent1">And they have been<MH2181> unfaithful<MH2181>, <i>departing</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>from their God<MH430>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>They offer<MH2076> sacrifices<MH2076> on the tops<MH7218> of the mountains<MH2022> <t><p class="indent1">And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>burn<MH6999> incense<MH6999> on the hills<MH1389>, <t><p class="indent1">Under<MH8478> oak<MH437>, poplar<MH3839>, and terebinth<MH424>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> their shade<MH6738> is pleasant<MH2896a>. <t><p class="indent1">Therefore<MH5921, 3651> your daughters<MH1323> play<MH2181> the<MH2181> prostitute<MH2181>, <t><p class="indent1">And your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>brides<MH3618> commit<MH5003> adultery<MH5003>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>I will not punish<MH6485> your daughters<MH1323> when<MH3588> they play<MH2181> the<MH2181> prostitute<MH2181>, <t><p class="indent1">Or your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>brides<MH3618> when<MH3588> they commit<MH5003> adultery<MH5003>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> <i>the men</i> themselves<MH1992a> slip<MH6504> away<MH6504> with the prostitutes<MH2185> <t><p class="indent1">And offer<MH2076> sacrifices<MH2076> with temple<MH6945> prostitutes<MH6945>; <t><p class="indent1">So the people<MH5971a> without<MH3808> understanding<MH995> are ruined<MH3832>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Though<MH518> you, Israel<MH3478>, play<MH2181> the<MH2181> prostitute<MH2181>, <t><p class="indent1">Judah<MH3063> must not become<MH816> guilty<MH816>; <t><p class="indent1">Also you are not to go<MH935> to Gilgal<MH1537>, <t><p class="indent1">Nor<MH408> go<MH5927> up<MH5927> to Beth-aven<MH1007b> <t><p class="indent1">And take<MH7650> the<MH7650> oath<MH7650>: <p class="indent1stline">“As the LORD<MH3068> lives<MH2416a>!” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Since<MH3588> Israel<MH3478> is stubborn<MH5637> <t><p class="indent1">Like a stubborn<MH5637> cow<MH6510>, <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Will the LORD<MH3068> now<MH6258> pasture<MH7462a> them <t><p class="indent1">Like a lamb<MH3532> in a large<MH4800> field<MH4800>? <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/hosea/4-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Ephraim<MH669> is allied<MH2266> with idols<MH6091>;
