International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention) will commencing on 8 September 2017 after ratified by 51 States in September 2016. However, there is no value recovered for the treated ballast water as it simply discharged during de-ballasting. In order to evaluate value creation of treated ballast water, three seawater applications which are seawater toilet flushing, cooling tower and desalination was studied and compared with treated ballast seawater. An exploratory study was conducted in Singapore as a case study as this country is facing water scarcity issues and a busy port in the world which received more than 28 billion m3 of ballast water in 2015. Surprisingly the treatment technology between seawater toilet flushing and ballast water management has similarity as both applications use screening and disinfection process and quality standard and analysis between treated ballast water with seawater applications found that seawater toilet flushing have the same quality parameter with treated ballast water. Thus, the treated ballast water can replace the raw seawater for seawater desalination. As such, with reduction of cost for screen unit, desalination water can exceed water production by NEWater in Singapore as the cost can recover the energy needed for desalination. It can conclude that treated ballast water has high recovery value and can be reused in seawater application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ballast%20water%20treatment" title="ballast water treatment">ballast water treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=desalination" title=" desalination"> desalination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BWM%20convention" title=" BWM convention"> BWM convention</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ballast%20water%20management" title=" ballast water management"> ballast water management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64168/quality-evaluation-of-treated-ballast-seawater-for-potential-reuse" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/64168.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">379</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> Security Risks Assessment: A Conceptualization and Extension of NFC Touch-And-Go Application </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ku%20Aina%20Afiqah%20Ku%20Adzman">Ku Aina Afiqah Ku Adzman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manmeet%20Mahinderjit%20Singh"> Manmeet Mahinderjit Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zarul%20Fitri%20Zaaba"> Zarul Fitri Zaaba</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> NFC operates on low-range 13.56 MHz frequency within a distance from 4cm to 10cm, and the applications can be categorized as touch and go, touch and confirm, touch and connect, and touch and explore. NFC applications are vulnerable to various security and privacy attacks such due to its physical nature; unprotected data stored in NFC tag and insecure communication between its applications. This paper aims to determine the likelihood of security risks happening in an NFC technology and application. We present an NFC technology taxonomy covering NFC standards, types of application and various security and privacy attack. Based on observations and the survey presented to evaluate the risk assessment within the touch and go application demonstrates two security attacks that are high risks namely data corruption and DOS attacks. After the risks are determined, risk countermeasures by using AHP is adopted. The guideline and solutions to these two high risks, attacks are later applied to a secure NFC-enabled Smartphone Attendance System. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Near%20Field%20Communication%20%28NFC%29" title="Near Field Communication (NFC)">Near Field Communication (NFC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20%20assessment" title=" risk assessment"> risk assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-criteria%20decision%20making" title=" multi-criteria decision making"> multi-criteria decision making</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Analytical%20Hierarchy%20Process%20%28AHP%29" title=" Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)"> Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66165/security-risks-assessment-a-conceptualization-and-extension-of-nfc-touch-and-go-application" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66165.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">302</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> The Optical Properties of CdS and Conjugated Cadmium Sulphide-Cowpea Chlorotic Mottle Virus</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afiqah%20Shafify%20Amran">Afiqah Shafify Amran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siti%20Aisyah%20Shamsudin"> Siti Aisyah Shamsudin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurul%20Yuziana%20Mohd%20Yusof"> Nurul Yuziana Mohd Yusof</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cadmium Sulphide (CdS) from group II-IV quantum dots with good optical properties was successfully synthesized by using the simple colloidal method. Capping them with ligand Polyethylinamine (PEI) alters the surface defect of CdS while, thioglycolic acid (TGA) was added to the reaction as a stabilizer. Due to their cytotoxicity, we decided to conjugate them with the protein cage nanoparticles. In this research, we used capsid of Cowpea Chlorotic Mottle Virus (CCMV) to package the CdS because they have the potential to serve in drug delivery, cell targeting and imaging. Adding Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) changes the pH of the systems hence the isoelectric charge is adjusted. We have characterized and studied the morphology and the optical properties of CdS and CdS-CCMV by transmitted electron microscopic (TEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, UV lamp and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. The results obtained suggest that the protein cage nanoparticles do not affect the optical properties of CdS. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cadmium%20sulphide" title="cadmium sulphide">cadmium sulphide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cowpea%20chlorotic%20mottle%20virus" title=" cowpea chlorotic mottle virus"> cowpea chlorotic mottle virus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=protein%20cage%20nanoparticles" title=" protein cage nanoparticles"> protein cage nanoparticles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20dots" title=" quantum dots"> quantum dots</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62282/the-optical-properties-of-cds-and-conjugated-cadmium-sulphide-cowpea-chlorotic-mottle-virus" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62282.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">338</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Argument Representation in Non-Spatial Motion Bahasa Melayu Based Conceptual Structure Theory</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurul%20Jamilah%20Binti%20Rosly">Nurul Jamilah Binti Rosly</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The typology of motion must be understood as a change from one location to another. But from a conceptual point of view, motion can also occur in non-spatial contexts associated with human and social factors. Therefore, from the conceptual point of view, the concept of non-spatial motion involves the movement of time, ownership, identity, state, and existence. Accordingly, this study will focus on the lexical as shared, accept, be, store, and exist as the study material. The data in this study were extracted from the Database of Languages and Literature Corpus Database, Malaysia, which was analyzed using semantics and syntax concepts using Conceptual Structure Theory - Ray Jackendoff (2002). Semantic representations are represented in the form of conceptual structures in argument functions that include functions [events], [situations], [objects], [paths] and [places]. The findings show that the mapping of these arguments comprises three main stages, namely mapping the argument structure, mapping the tree, and mapping the role of thematic items. Accordingly, this study will show the representation of non- spatial Malay language areas. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=arguments" title="arguments">arguments</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=concepts" title=" concepts"> concepts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constituencies" title=" constituencies"> constituencies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=events" title=" events"> events</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=situations" title=" situations"> situations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thematics" title=" thematics"> thematics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116661/argument-representation-in-non-spatial-motion-bahasa-melayu-based-conceptual-structure-theory" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116661.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">129</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Impact of Large Scale Solar Power Plant on Airports and Aviation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Munirah%20Stapah%20Salleh">Munirah Stapah Salleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Rosly%20Abbas"> Ahmad Rosly Abbas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sazalina%20Zakaria"> Sazalina Zakaria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nur%20Iffika%20Ruslan"> Nur Iffika Ruslan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurfaziera%0D%0ARahim"> Nurfaziera Rahim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One of the areas that require a massive amount of energy is the airport. Hence, several airports have increased their reliance on renewable energy, specifically solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, to solve the issue. The interest regarding the installations of airport-based solar farms caught much attention. This, at the same time, helps to minimize the reliance on conventional energy sources that are fossil-based. However, many concerns were raised on the solar PV systems, especially on the effect of potential glare occurrence to the pilots during their flies. This paper will be discussing both the positive and negative impact of the large scale solar power plant on airports and aviation. Installing the large scale solar have negative impacts on airport and aviation, such as physical collision hazards, potential interference, or voltage problems with aircraft navigational and surveillance equipment as well as potential glare. On the positive side, it helps to lower environmental footprint, acquiring less energy from the utility provider, which are traditionally highly relying on other energy sources that have larger effects on the environment, and, last but not least, reduce the power supply uncertainty. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20photovoltaic%20systems" title="solar photovoltaic systems">solar photovoltaic systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=large%20scale%20solar" title=" large scale solar"> large scale solar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=airport" title=" airport"> airport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=glare%20effects" title=" glare effects"> glare effects</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129339/impact-of-large-scale-solar-power-plant-on-airports-and-aviation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129339.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">213</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Identification of Potential Large Scale Floating Solar Sites in Peninsular Malaysia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nur%20Iffika%20Ruslan">Nur Iffika Ruslan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Rosly%20Abbas"> Ahmad Rosly Abbas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Munirah%20Stapah%40Salleh"> Munirah Stapah@Salleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurfaziera%20Rahim"> Nurfaziera Rahim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Increased concerns and awareness of environmental hazards by fossil fuels burning for energy have become the major factor driving the transition toward green energy. It is expected that an additional of 2,000 MW of renewable energy is to be recorded from the renewable sources by 2025 following the implementation of Large Scale Solar projects in Peninsular Malaysia, including Large Scale Floating Solar projects. Floating Solar has better advantages over its landed counterparts such as the requirement for land acquisition is relatively insignificant. As part of the site selection process established by TNB Research Sdn. Bhd., a set of mandatory and rejection criteria has been developed in order to identify only sites that are feasible for the future development of Large Scale Floating Solar power plant. There are a total of 85 lakes and reservoirs identified within Peninsular Malaysia. Only lakes and reservoirs with a minimum surface area of 120 acres will be considered as potential sites for the development of Large Scale Floating Solar power plant. The result indicates a total of 10 potential Large Scale Floating Solar sites identified which are located in Selangor, Johor, Perak, Pulau Pinang, Perlis and Pahang. This paper will elaborate on the various mandatory and rejection criteria, as well as on the various site selection process required to identify potential (suitable) Large Scale Floating Solar sites in Peninsular Malaysia. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Large%20Scale%20Floating%20Solar" title="Large Scale Floating Solar">Large Scale Floating Solar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peninsular%20Malaysia" title=" Peninsular Malaysia"> Peninsular Malaysia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Potential%20Sites" title=" Potential Sites"> Potential Sites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Renewable%20Energy" title=" Renewable Energy"> Renewable Energy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129340/identification-of-potential-large-scale-floating-solar-sites-in-peninsular-malaysia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129340.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">182</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Preliminary Analysis on Land Use-Land Cover Assessment of Post-Earthquake Geohazard: A Case Study in Kundasang, Sabah</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nur%20Afiqah%20Mohd%20Kamal">Nur Afiqah Mohd Kamal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khamarrul%20Azahari%20Razak"> Khamarrul Azahari Razak</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The earthquake aftermath has become a major concern, especially in high seismicity region. In Kundasang, Sabah, the earthquake on 5th June 2015 resulted in several catastrophes; landslides, rockfalls, mudflows and major slopes affected regardless of the series of the aftershocks. Certainly, the consequences of earthquake generate and induce the episodic disaster, not only life-threatening but it also affects infrastructure and economic development. Therefore, a need for investigating the change in land use and land cover (LULC) of post-earthquake geohazard is essential for identifying the extent of disastrous effects towards the development in Kundasang. With the advancement of remote sensing technology, post-earthquake geohazards (landslides, mudflows, rockfalls, debris flows) assessment can be evaluated by the employment of object-based image analysis in investigating the LULC change which consists of settlements, public infrastructure and vegetation cover. Therefore, this paper discusses the preliminary results on post-earthquakes geohazards distribution in Kundasang and evaluates the LULC classification effect upon the occurrences of geohazards event. The result of this preliminary analysis will provide an overview to determine the extent of geohazard impact on LULC. This research also provides beneficial input to the local authority in Kundasang about the risk of future structural development on the geohazard area. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geohazard" title="geohazard">geohazard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=land%20use%20land%20cover" title=" land use land cover"> land use land cover</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=object-based%20image%20analysis" title=" object-based image analysis"> object-based image analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20sensing" title=" remote sensing"> remote sensing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94250/preliminary-analysis-on-land-use-land-cover-assessment-of-post-earthquake-geohazard-a-case-study-in-kundasang-sabah" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94250.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">245</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Identifying the Determinants of the Shariah Non-Compliance Risk via Principal Axis Factoring </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Arzim%20Naim">Muhammad Arzim Naim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saiful%20Azhar%20Rosly"> Saiful Azhar Rosly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamad%20Sahari%20Nordin"> Mohamad Sahari Nordin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objective of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the rise of Shariah non-compliance risk that can bring Islamic banks to succumb to monetary loss. Prior literatures have never analyzed such risk in details despite lots of it arguing on the validity of some Shariah compliance products. The Shariah non-compliance risk in this context is looking to the potentially failure of the facility to stand from the court test say that if the banks bring it to the court for compensation from the defaulted clients. The risk may also arise if the customers refuse to make the financing payments on the grounds of the validity of the contracts, for example, when relinquishing critical requirement of Islamic contract such as ownership, the risk that may lead the banks to suffer loss when the customer invalidate the contract through the court. The impact of Shariah non-compliance risk to Islamic banks is similar to that of legal risks faced by the conventional banks. Both resulted into monetary losses to the banks respectively. In conventional banking environment, losses can be in the forms of summons paid to the customers if they won the case. In banking environment, this normally can be in very huge amount.
