I adjure thee by God, that thou wouldst not torment me: <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>(for He said to him, <i>Thou</i><FR> impure spirit, come out of the man.<Fr>) <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He asked him, <FR>What is thy name?<Fr> And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And he earnestly intreated Him, that He would not send them out of that country. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Now there was a great herd of swine feeding upon the mountains: <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>and all the demons intreated Him, saying, Send us to the swine, that we may enter into them. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And immediately Jesus permitted them: and the impure spirits went out <i>of the man,</i> and entered into the swine; and the herd (which were about two thousand,) ran violently down a precipice into the sea, and were suffocated.<p> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And they that were feeding the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what was done: <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>and they come to Jesus, and see the demoniac, who had been possessed by the legion, sitting and clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And when those that saw <i>it</i> told them what had happened to the demoniac, <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and concerning the swine, they intreated Him to depart from their borders. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And as He went into the ship, the demoniac intreated Him that he might be with Him: <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>but Jesus did not permit him; but saith to him, <FR>Go home to thy <Fr><i>friends,</i><FR> and tell them how great <Fr><i>things</i><FR> the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee:<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>and he departed, and published in Decapolis, how great <i>things</i> Jesus had done for him, and <i>they</i> were all amazed.<p> <A name="22"></a><p class="hdg">The Healing Touch of Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/9.htm#18">Matthew 9:18–26</a>; <a href ="../luke/8.htm#40">Luke 8:40–56</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And when Jesus passed over again in the ship to the other side, a great multitude was gathered unto Him, nigh unto the sea. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus; and as soon as he saw Him, he fell at his feet, <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>and earnestly intreated Him, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death, <i>I beseech thee</i> that thou wouldst come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So <i>Jesus</i> went with him, and a great multitude followed Him, and pressed about Him.<p> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And a woman who had been in a flux twelve years, <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>and had suffered a great deal from many physicians, and spent all that she had, and received no benefit, but rather grew worse, <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>when she heard of Jesus, came behind Him in the croud, and touched his garment; for she said, <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>If I can <i>but</i> touch his clothes, I shall be cured. <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt within herself that she was healed of the disorder. <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And immediately Jesus, knowing in Himself that power was gone out of Him, turned about in the croud and said, <FR>Who touched my clothes?<Fr> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And his disciples said unto Him, Thou seest the multitude crouding about thee, and dost thou ask, <FR>Who touched me?<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>and He looked round about to see who had done it. <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>But the woman being afraid and trembling, <i>as</i> knowing what had been done in her, came and prostrated herself to Him, and told Him all the truth: <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>and He said to her, <FR>Daughter, thy faith has saved thee; go in peace, and be healed of thy disorder.<Fr><p> <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>While He was yet speaking, there came <i>some</i> from the ruler of the synagogue's <i>house,</i> saying, Thy daughter is dead, why dost thou trouble the Master any more? <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>But Jesus hearing the word that was spoken, immediately saith to the ruler of the synagogue, <FR>Fear not, only believe:<Fr> <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>and He suffered none to go along with Him, but Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And He cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth a tumult, <i>people</i> weeping and lamenting greatly: <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/5-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>and when He was come in, He saith unto them, <FR>Why do ye take on <Fr><i>thus</i><FR> and weep?
