Through a case study illustration, the art therapist's response art was effective in two main areas. First, in-session response art helped facilitate treatment goals in accordance with van der Kolk's (2005) conceptualization of Developmental Trauma Disorder. Second, systematic exploration of countertransference issues through post-session art led to inner change in the therapist that coincided with change occurring in the client's behavior and approach to art making. clients suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; according to supporting research, can be a positive step toward recovery. The focus of this research will be the effects of Art Therapy with post-war clients and victims of child sexual abuse. Research will further show that Art Therapy facilitates the ability to focus, which is often a challenge for people suffering from PTSD. By looking at research projects previously conducted in recent years, evidence will demonstrate that when clients are provided with a safe place to facilitate expression, the process of healing can begin.
