The train is double headed by Black 5 no 44997 and A4 Pacific 60009 <I>Union of South Africa</I>. [Editor's notes: Roving Railscot reporter and raconteur John Robin was on this trip and recalls particularly the swing of the Black 5 as it was pushed through Stonehaven at 75 mph and out onto the viaduct. The two diesels (the other being D5127) took the tour onwards to Aviemore, via Craigellachie and the Speyside line.
