<a href="/luke/12-6.htm">6</a>Are five<MG4002> sparrows<MG4765> not sold<MG4453> for two<MG1417> <a href="#fn">[g]</a>assaria<MG787>? And yet not one<MG1520> of them has gone<MG1950> unnoticed<MG1950> in<MG1799> the<MG1799> sight<MG1799> of<MG1799> God<MG2316>. <a href="/luke/12-7.htm">7</a>But even<MG2532> the hairs<MG2359> of your head<MG2776> are all<MG3956> counted<MG705>. <a href="#fn">[h]</a>Do not fear<MG5399>; you are more<MG1308> valuable<MG1308> than a great<MG4183> number<MG4183> of sparrows<MG4765>. <a href="/luke/12-8.htm">8</a>“Now<MG1161> I say<MG3004> to you, everyone<MG3956> who<MG3739> confesses<MG3670> Me before<MG1715> people<MG444>, the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> will also<MG2532> confess<MG3670> him before<MG1715> the angels<MG32a> of God<MG2316>; <a href="/luke/12-9.htm">9</a>but the one who denies<MG720> Me before<MG1715> people<MG444> will be denied<MG533> before<MG1715> the angels<MG32a> of God<MG2316>. <a href="/luke/12-10.htm">10</a>And everyone<MG3956> who<MG3739> <a href="#fn">[i]</a>speaks<MG3004> a word<MG3056> against<MG1519> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444>, it will be forgiven<MG863> him; but the one who blasphemes<MG987> against<MG1519> the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151>, it will not be forgiven<MG863> him. <a href="/luke/12-11.htm">11</a>Now<MG1161> when<MG3752> they bring<MG1533> you before<MG1909> the synagogues<MG4864> and the officials<MG746> and the authorities<MG1849>, do not worry<MG3309> about<MG3309> how<MG4459> or<MG2228> what<MG5101> you are to speak<MG626> in<MG626> your defense<MG626>, or<MG2228> what<MG5101> you are to say<MG3004>; <a href="/luke/12-12.htm">12</a>for the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> will teach<MG1321> you in that very<MG846> hour<MG5610> what<MG3739> you ought<MG1163> to say<MG3004>.” Greed Denounced<a href="/luke/12-13.htm">13</a>Now<MG1161> someone<MG5100> <a href="#fn">[j]</a>in the crowd<MG3793> said<MG3004> to Him, “Teacher<MG1320>, tell<MG3004> my brother<MG80> to divide<MG3307> the family inheritance<MG2817> with me.” <a href="/luke/12-14.htm">14</a>But He said<MG3004> to him, “<a href="#fn">[k]</a>You<MG444> there<MG444>—who<MG5101> appointed<MG2525> Me a judge<MG2923> or<MG2228> arbitrator<MG3312> over<MG1909> the two of you?” <a href="/luke/12-15.htm">15</a>But He said<MG3004> to them, “Beware<MG3708>, and be on your guard<MG5442> against<MG575> every<MG3956> form<MG3956> of greed<MG4124>; for not even when<MG1722> one<MG5100> is<MG4052> affluent<MG4052> does his life<MG2222> consist<MG1510> of his possessions<MG5225>.” <a href="/luke/12-16.htm">16</a>And He told<MG3004> them a parable<MG3850b>, saying<MG3004>, “The land<MG5561> of a rich<MG4145> man<MG444> was very<MG2164> productive<MG2164>. <a href="/luke/12-17.htm">17</a>And he began thinking<MG1260> to himself<MG1438>, saying<MG3004>, ‘What<MG5101> shall I do<MG4160>, since<MG3754> I have<MG2192> no<MG3756> place<MG4226> to store<MG4863> my crops<MG2590>?’ <a href="/luke/12-18.htm">18</a>And he said<MG3004>, ‘This<MG3778> is what I will do<MG4160>: I will tear<MG2507> down<MG2507> my barns<MG596> and build<MG3618> larger<MG3173> ones<MG3173>, and I will store<MG4863> all<MG3956> my grain<MG4621> and my goods<MG18> there<MG1563>. <a href="/luke/12-19.htm">19</a>And I will say<MG3004> to <a href="#fn">[l]</a>myself<MG5590>, “You have<MG2192> many<MG4183> goods<MG18> stored<MG2749> up<MG2749> for many<MG4183> years<MG2094> to come; relax<MG373>, eat<MG2068>, drink<MG4095>, and enjoy<MG2165> yourself!”’ <a href="/luke/12-20.htm">20</a>But God<MG2316> said<MG3004> to him, ‘You fool<MG878>! This<MG3778> very night<MG3571> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>your soul<MG5590> is demanded<MG523> of you; and as for all that you have prepared<MG2090>, who<MG5101> will own<MG1510> it now?’ <a href="/luke/12-21.htm">21</a>Such<MG3779> is the one who stores<MG2343> up<MG2343> treasure<MG2343> for himself<MG848>, and is<MG4147> not rich<MG4147> in<MG1519> relation<MG1519> to<MG1519> God<MG2316>.” <a href="/luke/12-22.htm">22</a>And He said<MG3004> to His disciples<MG3101>, “For this<MG3778> reason<MG1223> I tell<MG3004> you, <a href="#fn">[n]</a>do not worry<MG3309> about<MG3588> your <a href="#fn">[o]</a>life<MG5590>, as to what<MG5101> you are to eat<MG2068>; nor<MG3366> for your body<MG4983>, as to what<MG5101> you are to wear<MG1746a>. <a href="/luke/12-23.htm">23</a>For life<MG5590> is more<MG4183> than food<MG5160>, and the body<MG4983> is more than clothing<MG1742>. <a href="/luke/12-24.htm">24</a>Consider<MG2657> the ravens<MG2876>, that they neither<MG3777> sow<MG4687> nor<MG3777> reap<MG2325>; they have no<MG3756> storeroom<MG5009> nor<MG3761> barn<MG596>, and yet God<MG2316> feeds<MG5142> them; how<MG4214> much<MG4214> more<MG3123> valuable<MG1308> you are than the birds<MG4071>! <a href="/luke/12-25.htm">25</a>And which<MG5101> of you by worrying<MG3309> can<MG1410> add<MG4369> a <a href="#fn">[p]</a>day<MG4083> to his <a href="#fn">[q]</a>life’s<MG2244> span<MG2244>? <a href="/luke/12-26.htm">26</a>Therefore<MG3767> if<MG1487> you cannot<MG1410, 3761> do even<MG3761> a very<MG1646> little<MG1646> thing<MG1646>, why<MG5101> do you worry<MG3309> about<MG4012> the other<MG3062> things<MG3062>? <a href="/luke/12-27.htm">27</a>Consider<MG2657> the lilies<MG2918>, how<MG4459> they grow<MG837>: they neither<MG3777> labor<MG2872> nor<MG3777> <a href="#fn">[r]</a>spin<MG3514>; but I tell<MG3004> you, not even<MG3761> Solomon<MG4672> in all<MG3956> his glory<MG1391> clothed<MG4016> himself like<MG5613> one<MG1520> of these<MG3778>. <a href="/luke/12-28.htm">28</a>Now<MG1161> if<MG1487> God<MG2316> so<MG3779> clothes<MG292b> the grass<MG5528> in the field<MG68>, which is alive today<MG4594> and tomorrow<MG839> is thrown<MG906> into the furnace<MG2823>, how<MG4214> much<MG4214> more<MG3123> will He clothe you? You of<MG3640b> little<MG3640b> faith<MG3640b>! <a href="/luke/12-29.htm">29</a>And do not <a href="#fn">[s]</a>seek<MG2212> what<MG5101> you are to eat<MG2068> and what<MG5101> you are to drink<MG4095>, and do not keep worrying<MG3349>. <a href="/luke/12-30.htm">30</a>For <a href="#fn">[t]</a>all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> are what the nations<MG1484> of the world<MG2889> <a href="#fn">[u]</a>eagerly<MG1934> seek<MG1934>; and your Father<MG3962> knows<MG3609a> that you need<MG5535> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>. <a href="/luke/12-31.htm">31</a>But <a href="#fn">[v]</a>seek<MG2212> His kingdom<MG932>, and these<MG3778> things<MG3778> will be <a href="#fn">[w]</a>provided<MG4369> to you. <a href="/luke/12-32.htm">32</a><a href="#fn">[x]</a>Do not be<MG5399> afraid<MG5399>, little<MG3398> flock<MG4168>, because<MG3754> your Father<MG3962> has chosen<MG2106> to give<MG1325> you the kingdom<MG932>. <a href="/luke/12-33.htm">33</a>“Sell<MG4453> your possessions<MG5225> and give<MG1325> to charity<MG1654>; make<MG4160> yourselves<MG1438> money<MG905> belts<MG905> that do not wear<MG3822> out<MG3822>, an inexhaustible<MG413> treasure<MG2344> in heaven<MG3772>, where<MG3699> no<MG3756> thief<MG2812> comes<MG1448> near<MG1448> nor<MG3761> does a moth<MG4597> destroy<MG1311>. <a href="/luke/12-34.htm">34</a>For where<MG3699> your treasure<MG2344> is, there<MG1563> your heart<MG2588> will be also<MG2532>. Be in Readiness<a href="/luke/12-35.htm">35</a>“<a href="#fn">[y]</a>Be prepared<MG4024>, and keep your lamps<MG3088> lit<MG2545>. <a href="/luke/12-36.htm">36</a>You are also<MG2532> to be like<MG3664> people<MG444> who are waiting<MG4327> for their master<MG2962> when<MG4219> he returns<MG360> from the wedding<MG1062> feast<MG1062>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> they may immediately<MG2112> open<MG455> the door for him when he comes<MG2064> and knocks<MG2925>. <a href="/luke/12-37.htm">37</a>Blessed<MG3107> are those<MG1565> slaves<MG1401> whom<MG3739> the master<MG2962> will find<MG2147> on the alert<MG1127> when he comes<MG2064>; truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, that he will <a href="#fn">[z]</a>prepare<MG4024> himself to serve, and have them recline<MG347> at the table, and he will come<MG3928> up<MG3928> and serve<MG1247> them. <a href="/luke/12-38.htm">38</a>Whether<MG2579> he comes<MG2064> in the <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>second<MG1208> watch<MG5438>, or<MG2579> even<MG2579> in the <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>third<MG5154>, and finds<MG2147> them so<MG3779>, blessed<MG3107> are those<MG1565> slaves. <a href="/luke/12-39.htm">39</a>“But <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>be sure<MG1097> of this<MG3778>, that if<MG1487> the head<MG3617> of<MG3617> the<MG3617> house<MG3617> had known<MG3609a> at what<MG4169> hour<MG5610> the thief<MG2812> was coming<MG2064>, he would not have allowed<MG863> his house<MG3624> to be broken<MG1358> into. <a href="/luke/12-40.htm">40</a>You too<MG2532>, be ready<MG2092>; because<MG3754> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> is coming<MG2064> at an hour<MG5610> that you do not think<MG1380> He will.” <a href="/luke/12-41.htm">41</a>Peter<MG4074> said<MG3004>, “Lord<MG2962>, are You telling<MG3004> this<MG3778> parable<MG3850b> to us, or<MG2228> to everyone<MG3956> else as<MG2532> well<MG2532>?” <a href="/luke/12-42.htm">42</a>And the Lord<MG2962> said<MG3004>, “Who<MG5101> then<MG686> is the faithful<MG4103> and sensible<MG5429> steward<MG3623>, whom<MG3739> his master<MG2962> will put<MG2525> in<MG2525> charge<MG2525> of his servants<MG2322>, to give<MG1325> them their rations<MG4620> at the proper<MG2540> time<MG2540>? <a href="/luke/12-43.htm">43</a>Blessed<MG3107> is that slave<MG1401> whom<MG3739> his <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>master<MG2962> finds<MG2147> so<MG3779> doing<MG4160> when he comes<MG2064>. <a href="/luke/12-44.htm">44</a>Truly<MG230> I say<MG3004> to you that he will put<MG2525> him in<MG2525> charge<MG2525> of all<MG3956> his possessions<MG5225>. <a href="/luke/12-45.htm">45</a>But if<MG1437> that slave<MG1401> says<MG3004> in his heart<MG2588>, ‘My master<MG2962> will take<MG5549> a<MG5549> long<MG5549> time<MG5549> to come<MG2064>,’ and he begins<MG757> to beat<MG5180> the other slaves<MG3814, 3816>, both men<MG3816> and women<MG3814>, and to eat<MG2068> and drink<MG4095> and get<MG3182> drunk<MG3182>; <a href="/luke/12-46.htm">46</a>then the master<MG2962> of that slave<MG1401> will come<MG2240> on a day<MG2250> that he does not expect<MG4328>, and at an hour<MG5610> that he does not know<MG1097>, and will <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>cut<MG1371> him in<MG1371> two<MG1371>, and assign<MG5087> <a href="#fn">[af]</a>him a place<MG3313> with the unbelievers<MG571>. <a href="/luke/12-47.htm">47</a>And that slave<MG1401> who knew<MG1097> his master’s<MG2962> will<MG2307> and did not get<MG2090> ready<MG2090> or<MG2228> act<MG4160> in accordance<MG4314> with his will<MG2307>, will<MG2307> receive<MG1194> many<MG4183> blows<MG1194>, <a href="/luke/12-48.htm">48</a>but the one who did not know<MG1097> it, and committed<MG4160> acts deserving<MG514> of <a href="#fn">[ag]</a>a beating<MG4127>, will receive<MG1194> only a few<MG3641> blows<MG1194>. From everyone<MG3956> who<MG3739> has been given<MG1325> much<MG4183>, much<MG4183> will be demanded<MG2212>; and to whom<MG3739> they entrusted<MG3908> much<MG4183>, of him they will ask<MG154> all<MG4055> the<MG4055> more<MG4055>. Christ Divides People<a href="/luke/12-49.htm">49</a>“I <a href="#fn">[ah]</a>have come<MG2064> to cast<MG906> fire<MG4442> upon the earth<MG1093>; and <a href="#fn">[ai]</a>how<MG5101> I wish<MG2309> it were already<MG2235> kindled<MG381>! <a href="/luke/12-50.htm">50</a>But I have<MG2192> a baptism<MG908> <a href="#fn">[aj]</a>to undergo<MG907>, and how<MG4459> distressed<MG4912> I am until<MG2193> it is accomplished<MG5055>! <a href="/luke/12-51.htm">51</a>Do you think<MG1380> that I came<MG3854> to provide<MG1325> peace<MG1515> on earth<MG1093>? No<MG3780>, I tell<MG3004> you, but rather<MG2228> division<MG1267>; <a href="/luke/12-52.htm">52</a>for from now<MG3568> on five<MG4002> members in one<MG1520> household<MG3624> will be divided<MG1266>, three<MG5140> against<MG1909> two<MG1417> and two<MG1417> against<MG1909> three<MG5140>. <a href="/luke/12-53.htm">53</a>They will be divided<MG1266>, father<MG3962> against<MG1909> son<MG5207> and son<MG5207> against<MG1909> father<MG3962>, mother<MG3384> against<MG1909> daughter<MG2364> and daughter<MG2364> against<MG1909> mother<MG3384>, mother-in-law<MG3994> against<MG1909> daughter-in-law<MG3565> and daughter-in-law<MG3565> against<MG1909> mother-in-law<MG3994>.” <a href="/luke/12-54.htm">54</a>And He was also<MG2532> saying<MG3004> to the crowds<MG3793>, “Whenever<MG3752> you see<MG3708> a cloud<MG3507> rising<MG393> <a href="#fn">[ak]</a>in the west<MG1424>, you immediately<MG2112> say<MG3004>, ‘A shower<MG3655a> is coming<MG2064>,’ and so<MG3779> it turns<MG1096> out<MG1096>. <a href="/luke/12-55.htm">55</a>And whenever<MG3752> you feel a <a href="#fn">[al]</a>south<MG3558> wind<MG3558> blowing<MG4154>, you say<MG3004>, ‘It will be a hot<MG2742> day,’ and it turns<MG1096> out<MG1096> that way. <a href="/luke/12-56.htm">56</a>You hypocrites<MG5273>!
