Nine new leprosy cases corresponding to a new case detection rate of 10.64 per 10,000 population were diagnosed. In Sene District of the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana the prevalence of leprosy is 2.4/10,000 of the population. Most of these cases are children, indicating that new infections are still occurring in the communities. To identify factors associated with leprosy in the Sene District in order to implement an effective strategy to eliminate leprosy from the district. Case-control study. The cases were selected from a register of active leprosy cases. Controls were matched for age, and sex. For every one case identified two controls were selected. Of the twenty four cases identified, eighteen (75%) were paucibacillary and six (25%) were multibacillary leprosy. Leprosy is still endemic in Nigeria and particularly in some states such as Jigawa, kaduna, Kogi, Kano, Bauchi, Ebonyi and others. The study investigated the reasons adduced by health care providers about the prevalence and endemicity about leprosy cases in Kogi state. The study was guided by one research question and two research hypotheses. The study employed the descriptive research design of survey type. A sample of 60 health care providers was drawn from the population using the purposive sampling technique. A researcher developed questionnaire was used for the study which was adequately validated by three experts in health education and epidemiology and a reliability coefficient of 0.79r was obtained through the Pearson product moment correlation analysis. The questionnaires were administered by the researchers with the help of one research assistant. The administered questionnaires were retrieved and descriptively analysed using mean and standard deviation, while the research hypotheses were tested using T-test. The findings of the study revealed that late arrival of patients, stigmatization/discrimination, superstitious beliefs lack of awareness about the treatment poverty among others were reasons adduced by health care providers about the prevalence and endemicity of leprosy cases in Kogi state. The study further revealed that gender and location of health care providers do not significantly affect the reasons adduced about the prevalence and endemicity of leprosy cases in Kogi state. It was recommended that the government at all levels and health related non-government organizations should enhance health surveillance in communities and intensify health education in communities to eradicate impediments related to the prevalence and endemicity of leprosy cases such as correcting misconceptions and beliefs, eradicate discrimination and promote early report of leprosy victims to infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. The purpose of this study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics of leprosy in Benin from 2006 to 2018. Methods This descriptive retrospective study included data from January 2006 to December 2018. The data of all patients treated in the leprosy treatment centres (LTCs) of the Republic of Benin were obtained from the LTC registers and analysed using Stata/SE 11.0 software. Quantum GIS (Geographic Information System) version 2.18.23 software was used for mapping. The main indicators of leprosy were calculated according to the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. Results During the study period, a total of 2785 (annual average of 214) new cases of leprosy were diagnosed. The median age of the patients was 38 years, with extremes ranging from 6 to 88 years.
