John Alex McCone Becomes DCI</a></strong></p> <p>If you were a leader of an organization crucial to your country’s safety, how would you want to be remembered? Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) John Alex McCone (1961-1965) is known as one of the most competent directors despite his lack of intelligence experience. He is also remembered as an excellent manager. McCone served as DCI during a very tumultuous time for the United States: the Cuban Missile Crisis. McCone is credited with being the first government official to predict that the Soviet Union would place offensive weapons in Cuba.
