And when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent some of his friends to him, and said, My Lord, do not trouble yourself; for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>That is why I was not worthy to come to you; but just say a word and my boy will be healed. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>For I am also a man in government service, and there are soldiers under my command; and I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>When Jesus heard these things, he was amazed at him, and he turned and said to the people who followed him, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith as this. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>So those who were sent returned to the house, and found the servant who was sick, healed.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And it came to pass on the next day, he was going to a city called Nain; and his disciples were with him, and many people. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And when they came near the gate of the city, he saw a dead man being carried out, who was the only son of his mother, and his mother was a widow; and many people of the city were with her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>When Jesus saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Weep not. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>Then he went and touched the bier, and those who carried it stood still. And he said, Young man, I tell you, Arise. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>And all men were seized with fear; and they praised God, saying, A great prophet is risen among us; and, God has visited his people. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And this word about him went out through all Judaea, and through the country around them.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And John’s disciples told him all these things. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>So John called two of his disciples, and sent them to Jesus, and said, Are you the one who is to come? or are we to expect another one? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And they came to Jesus and said to him, John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you the one who is to come? or are we to expect another one? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>In that very hour, he healed a great many of their diseases and plagues, and of evil spirits; and he gave sight to many blind men. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>So Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John everything that you have seen and heard; that the blind see, and the lame walk, and the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead rise up, and the poor are given hope. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>And blessed is he, who does not stumble on account of me.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>When John’s disciples had gone, Jesus began to speak to the people concerning John, What did you go out to the wilderness to see? A reed which is shaken by the wind? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>If not so, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold, those who wear fine clothes and live delicately are in kings’ houses. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>And if not so, what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, to prepare the way before you.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>I say to you that there is no prophet among those who are born of women, who is greater than John the Baptist; and yet even the least person in the kingdom of God is greater than he. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>And all the people who heard it, even the publicans, justified themselves before God, for they were baptized with the baptism of John. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>But the Pharisees and the scribes suppressed the will of God in themselves, because they were not baptized by him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>To whom, therefore, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>They are like boys who sit in the street, and call to their friends and say, We have sung to you but you did not dance; and we have wailed to you and you did not weep. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say, He is insane. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>The Son of man came, eating and drinking; and you say, Behold, a glutton and a winebibber, and a friend of publicans and sinners! <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>And yet wisdom is justified by all its works.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>Then one of the Pharisees came and asked him to eat with him. And he entered the house of that Pharisee and reclined as a guest. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-37.htm#aramaic"><b>37</b></a></span>Now there was in that city a woman who was a sinner; and when she knew that he was a guest in the Pharisee’s house, she took an alabaster cruse of perfume, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-38.htm#aramaic"><b>38</b></a></span>And she stood behind him at his feet, weeping, and she began to wet his feet with her tears, and to wipe them with the hair of her head, and she kissed his feet, and anointed them with perfume. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-39.htm#aramaic"><b>39</b></a></span>When the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he reasoned in himself and said, If this man were a prophet, he would have known who she was and her reputation; for the woman who has touched him is a sinner.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-40.htm#aramaic"><b>40</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to him, Simon, I have something to tell you. He said to him, Say it, teacher. Jesus said to him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-41.htm#aramaic"><b>41</b></a></span>There were two men who were debtors to a creditor; one of them owed him five hundred pence, and the other one fifty pence. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-42.htm#aramaic"><b>42</b></a></span>And because they had nothing to pay, he forgave them both. Which one of them will love him more? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-43.htm#aramaic"><b>43</b></a></span>Simon answered and said, I think the one to whom he forgave more. Jesus said to him, You have judged truly. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-44.htm#aramaic"><b>44</b></a></span>And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you did not give me even water for my feet; but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-45.htm#aramaic"><b>45</b></a></span>You did not kiss me; but she, since she entered, has not ceased to kiss my feet. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-46.htm#aramaic"><b>46</b></a></span>You did not anoint my head with oil; but she has anointed my feet with perfume. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-47.htm#aramaic"><b>47</b></a></span>For this reason, I say to you, Her many sins are forgiven, because she loved much; but he to whom little is forgiven, loves little. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-48.htm#aramaic"><b>48</b></a></span>And he said to the woman, Your sins are forgiven. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-49.htm#aramaic"><b>49</b></a></span>Then the guests began to say within themselves, Who is this man, who forgives even sins? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/luke/7-50.htm#aramaic"><b>50</b></a></span>Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.<p><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">Holy Bible From The Ancient Eastern Texts: Aramaic Of The Peshitta by George M.
