<t><p class="indent1">You have used<MH7235a> many<MH7235a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>remedies<MH7499> in vain<MH7723>; <t><p class="indent1">There<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> healing<MH8585b> for you. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>The nations<MH1471> have heard<MH8085> of your shame<MH7036>, <t><p class="indent1">And the earth<MH776> is full<MH4390> of your cry<MH6682> <i>of distress;</i> <t><p class="indent1">For one warrior<MH1368> has stumbled<MH3782> over <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>another<MH1368>, <t><p class="indent1">And both<MH8147> of them have fallen<MH5307> down<MH5307> together<MH3164a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><i>This is</i> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>message<MH1697> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Jeremiah<MH3414> the prophet<MH5030> about the coming<MH935> of Nebuchadnezzar<MH5019> king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894> to strike<MH5221> the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>: <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>“Declare<MH5046> in Egypt<MH4714> and proclaim<MH8085> in Migdol<MH4024>, <t><p class="indent1">Proclaim<MH8085> also in Memphis<MH5297> and Tahpanhes<MH8471>; <t><p class="indent1">Say<MH559>, ‘Take<MH3320> your stand<MH3320> and get<MH3559> yourself ready<MH3559>, <t><p class="indent1">For the sword<MH2719> has devoured<MH398> those around<MH5439> you.’ <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“Why<MH4069> have your powerful<MH47> ones<MH47> been cut<MH5502> down<MH5502>? <t><p class="indent1">They do not stand<MH5975> because<MH3588> the LORD<MH3068> has thrust<MH1920> them away<MH1920>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“They have repeatedly<MH7235a> stumbled<MH3782>; <t><p class="indent1">Indeed<MH1571>, they have fallen<MH5307>, one<MH376> against<MH413> another<MH7453>. <t><p class="indent1">Then they said<MH559>, ‘Get<MH6965> up<MH6965>, and let’s go<MH7725> back<MH7725> <t><p class="indent1">To our own people<MH5971a> and our native<MH4138> land<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">Away from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>sword<MH2719> of the oppressor<MH3238>!’ <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>“<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>They shouted<MH7121> there<MH8033>, ‘Pharaoh<MH6547> king<MH4428> of Egypt<MH4714> <i>is nothing but</i> a big<MH7588> noise<MH7588>; <t><p class="indent1">He has let the appointed<MH4150> time<MH4150> pass<MH5674a> by<MH5674a>!’ <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>“As I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the King<MH4428>, <t><p class="indent1">Whose name<MH8034> is the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, <p class="indent1stline">“One certainly<MH3588> shall come<MH935> <i>who is</i> like Tabor<MH8396> among the mountains<MH2022>, <t><p class="indent1">Or like Carmel<MH3760> by the sea<MH3220>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>“Make<MH6213a> your baggage<MH3627> <i>ready for</i> exile<MH1473>, <t><p class="indent1">Daughter<MH1323> living<MH3427> in Egypt<MH4714>, <t><p class="indent1">For Memphis<MH5297> will become<MH1961> a desolation<MH8047>; <t><p class="indent1">It will be destroyed<MH3341> <i>and</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>deprived<MH4480, 369> of inhabitants<MH3427>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>“Egypt<MH4714> is a pretty<MH3304> heifer<MH5697>, <t><p class="indent1"><i>But</i> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>horsefly<MH7171> is coming<MH935> from the north<MH6828>—it is coming<MH935>! <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>“Also<MH1571> her mercenaries<MH7917a> in her midst<MH7130> <t><p class="indent1">Are like fattened<MH4770> calves<MH5695>, <t><p class="indent1">For they too<MH1571> have turned<MH6437> away<MH6437> <i>and</i> have fled<MH5127> together<MH3164a>; <t><p class="indent1">They did not stand<MH5975> <i>their ground.</i> <t><p class="indent1">For the day<MH3117> of their disaster<MH343> has come<MH935> upon them, <t><p class="indent1">The time<MH6256> of their punishment<MH6486>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>“Its sound<MH6963> moves<MH1980> along like a serpent<MH5175>; <t><p class="indent1">For they move<MH1980> on <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>like an army<MH2428> <t><p class="indent1">And come<MH935> to her as woodcutters<MH2404> with axes<MH7134>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>“They have cut<MH3772> down<MH3772> her forest<MH3293a>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>; <t><p class="indent1">“Certainly<MH3588> it will no<MH3808> <i>longer</i> be found<MH2713>, <t><p class="indent1">Even though<MH3588> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>they are<MH7231> more<MH4480> numerous<MH7231> than<MH4480> locusts<MH697> <t><p class="indent1">And are without<MH369> number<MH4557>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>“The daughter<MH1323> of Egypt<MH4714> has been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954>, <t><p class="indent1">Turned<MH5414> over<MH5414> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>power<MH3027> of the people<MH5971a> of the north<MH6828>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: “Behold<MH2009>, I am going to punish<MH6485> Amon<MH528> of Thebes<MH4996>, and Pharaoh<MH6547>, and Egypt<MH4714> along with her gods<MH430> and her kings<MH4428>, indeed, Pharaoh<MH6547> and those who trust<MH982> in him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/46-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>I shall hand<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to those who are seeking<MH1245> their lives<MH5315>, that is, to Nebuchadnezzar<MH5019> king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894> and to his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>officers<MH5650>.
