It was an interpretation of <a href="/wiki/Johann_Sebastian_Bach" title="Johann Sebastian Bach">Johann Sebastian Bach's</a> <i><a href="/wiki/Goldberg_Variations" title="Goldberg Variations">Goldberg Variations</a></i> (<a href="/wiki/BWV" class="mw-redirect" title="BWV">BWV</a> 988). The work launched Gould's career as an international pianist, and became one of the best known piano recordings.
