The repetition of "the word of the LORD" emphasizes the authority and divine origin of the message. In the context of Ezekiel's ministry, this phrase underscores the ongoing relationship between God and His prophet, highlighting Ezekiel's role as a mouthpiece for God's messages to the Israelites. The phrase "came to me" suggests a personal and direct revelation, which is a common theme in prophetic literature, where God communicates His will through chosen individuals.

The use of "Again" suggests that this is part of a series of messages, indicating that God is persistently reaching out to His people through Ezekiel. This persistence reflects God's desire for His people to understand and respond to His warnings and instructions. The historical context here is the Babylonian exile, a period of great turmoil and uncertainty for the Israelites, making the need for divine guidance even more critical.

The phrase "the word of the LORD" is significant throughout the Bible, as it often introduces prophetic messages that carry weight and authority. It connects to other scriptures where God speaks directly to His prophets, such as in Jeremiah 1:4 and Isaiah 6:8, reinforcing the idea that God actively communicates with His chosen messengers.

In a broader theological context, this phrase can be seen as a type of Christ, who is referred to as the "Word" in John 1:1. Just as Ezekiel received the word of the LORD to deliver to the people, Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God's word to humanity. This connection highlights the continuity of God's communication and revelation from the Old Testament prophets to the New Testament fulfillment in Christ.
Persons / Places / Events
1. Ezekiel
A prophet and priest during the Babylonian exile, Ezekiel is the recipient of God's message. For upwards of two years the messages which it had been given him to write (how far they were in any sense published we have no means of knowing) in Ezekiel 25-32, had dealt exclusively with foreign nations. Now his own people are again the object of his care. He resumes his pastoral office at once for warning and consolation. From this point onwards, with the exception of the strange Meshech-Tubal episode in Ezekiel 38, 39, all is leading onwards to the final vision of the rebuilt temple, and the redistributed land of Israel, and through them to the times of the Messianic restoration. No date is given here for the word of the Lord which now came to him, but it may, perhaps be inferred, from Vers. 21, 22, that it was immediately before the arrival of the messenger who brought the tidings that Jerusalem was taken. In the ecstatic state indicated by "the hand of the Lord" he knew that some great change was coming, that he had a new message to deliver, a new part to play.

Parallel Commentaries ...

Hebrew
Again the word
דְבַר־ (ḏə·ḇar-)
Noun - masculine singular construct
Strong's 1697: A word, a matter, thing, a cause

of the LORD
יְהוָ֖ה (Yah·weh)
Noun - proper - masculine singular
Strong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israel

came
וַיְהִ֥י (way·hî)
Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singular
Strong's 1961: To fall out, come to pass, become, be

to me,
אֵלַ֥י (’ê·lay)
Preposition | first person common singular
Strong's 413: Near, with, among, to

saying,
לֵאמֹֽר׃ (lê·mōr)
Preposition-l | Verb - Qal - Infinitive construct
Strong's 559: To utter, say

Links
Ezekiel 33:1 NIV
Ezekiel 33:1 NLT
Ezekiel 33:1 ESV
Ezekiel 33:1 NASB
Ezekiel 33:1 KJV

Ezekiel 33:1 BibleApps.com
Ezekiel 33:1 Biblia Paralela
Ezekiel 33:1 Chinese Bible
Ezekiel 33:1 French Bible
Ezekiel 33:1 Catholic Bible

OT Prophets: Ezekiel 33:1 The word of Yahweh came to me (Ezek.
