But had he taken<MH2094b> warning<MH2094b>, he would have saved<MH4422> his life<MH5315>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But if<MH3588> the watchman<MH6822> sees<MH7200> the sword<MH2719> coming<MH935> and does not blow<MH8628> the horn<MH7782> and the people<MH5971a> are not warned<MH2094b>, and a sword<MH2719> comes<MH935> and takes<MH3947> a person<MH5315> from them, he is taken<MH3947> away for his wrongdoing<MH5771>; but I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>require<MH1875> his blood<MH1818> from the watchman&#8217;s<MH6822> hand<MH3027>.&#8217; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>&#8220;Now as for you, son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, I have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>appointed<MH5414> you as a watchman<MH6822> for the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>; so you will hear<MH8085> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>message<MH1697> from My mouth<MH6310> and give<MH2094b> them a<MH2094b> warning<MH2094b> from Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>When I say<MH559> to the wicked<MH7563>, &#8216;You wicked<MH7563> person<MH7563>, you will certainly<MH4191> die<MH4191>,&#8217; and you do not speak<MH1696> to warn<MH2094b> the wicked<MH7563> about<MH4480> his way<MH1870>, that wicked<MH7563> person<MH7563> shall die<MH4191> for his wrongdoing<MH5771>, but I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>require<MH1245> his blood<MH1818> from your hand<MH3027>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>But if<MH3588> you on your part<MH859> warn<MH2094b> a wicked<MH7563> person<MH7563> to turn<MH7725> from his way<MH1870> and he does not turn<MH7725> from his way<MH1870>, he will die<MH4191> for his wrongdoing<MH5771>, but you have saved<MH5337> your life<MH5315>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>&#8220;Now as for you, son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, say<MH559> to the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>, &#8216;This<MH3651> is what<MH3651> you have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>said<MH559>: &#8220;Surely<MH3588> our offenses<MH6588> and our sins<MH2403b> are upon us, and we are rotting<MH4743> away<MH4743> in them; how<MH349> then can we <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>survive<MH2421a>?&#8221;&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Say<MH559> to them, &#8216;As I live<MH2416a>!&#8217; declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>GOD<MH3068>, &#8216;I take<MH2654a> no<MH518> pleasure<MH2654a> at<MH518> all<MH518> in the death<MH4194> of the wicked<MH7563>, but rather<MH3588, 518> that the wicked<MH7563> turn<MH7725> from his way<MH1870> and live<MH2421a>. Turn<MH7725> back<MH7725>, turn<MH7725> back<MH7725> from your evil<MH7451a> ways<MH1870>! Why<MH4100> then should you die<MH4191>, house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>?&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And you, son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, say<MH559> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>your fellow<MH1121, 5971a> citizens<MH5971a>, &#8216;The righteousness<MH6666> of a righteous<MH6662> one<MH6662> will not save<MH5337> him on the day<MH3117> of his offense<MH6588>, and as for the wickedness<MH7564> of a wicked<MH7563> one<MH7563>, he will not stumble<MH3782> because of it on the day<MH3117> when he turns<MH7725> from his wickedness<MH7562>; whereas a righteous<MH6662> one<MH6662> will not be<MH3201> able<MH3201> to live<MH2421a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>by his righteousness on the day<MH3117> when he commits<MH2398> sin<MH2398>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>When I say<MH559> to the righteous<MH6662> <i>that</i> he will certainly<MH2421a> live<MH2421a>, and he <i>so</i> trusts<MH982> in his righteousness<MH6666> that he commits<MH6213a> injustice<MH5766>, none<MH3605, 3808> of his righteous<MH6666> deeds<MH6666> will be remembered<MH2142>; but for that same injustice<MH5766> of his which<MH834> he has committed<MH6213a> he will die<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But when I say<MH559> to the wicked<MH7563>, &#8216;You will certainly<MH4191> die<MH4191>,&#8217; and he turns<MH7725> from his sin<MH2403b> and practices<MH6213a> justice<MH4941> and righteousness<MH6666>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span><i>if a</i> wicked<MH7563> person<MH7563> returns<MH7725> a pledge<MH2258>, pays<MH7999a> back<MH7999a> what<MH1500> he has taken<MH1500> by<MH1500> robbery<MH1500>, walks<MH1980> by the statutes<MH2708> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>which ensure life<MH2425b> without<MH1115> committing<MH6213a> injustice<MH5766>, he shall certainly<MH2421a> live<MH2421a>; he shall not die<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>None<MH3605, 3808> of his sins<MH2403b> that he has committed<MH2398> will be remembered<MH2142> against him. He has practiced<MH6213a> justice<MH4941> and righteousness<MH6666>; he shall certainly<MH2421a> live<MH2421a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>&#8220;Yet <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>your fellow<MH1121, 5971a> citizens<MH5971a> say<MH559>, &#8216;The way<MH1870> of the Lord<MH136> is not right<MH8505>,&#8217; when it is their own way<MH1870> that is not right<MH8505>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>When the righteous<MH6662> turns<MH7725> from his righteousness<MH6666> and commits<MH6213a> injustice<MH5766>, then he shall die<MH4191> in <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>But when the wicked<MH7563> turns<MH7725> from his wickedness<MH7564> and practices<MH6213a> justice<MH4941> and righteousness<MH6666>, he will live<MH2421a> by them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Yet you say<MH559>, &#8216;The way<MH1870> of the Lord<MH136> is not right<MH8505>.&#8217; I will judge<MH8199> each<MH376> of you according to his ways<MH1870>, house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">Word of Jerusalem&#8217;s Capture</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Now in the twelfth<MH8147, 6240> year<MH8141> of our exile<MH1546>, on the fifth<MH2568> of the tenth<MH6224> month<MH2320>, the survivor<MH6412a> from Jerusalem<MH3389> came<MH935> to me, saying<MH559>, &#8220;The city<MH5892b> has been <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>taken<MH5221>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Now the hand<MH3027> of the LORD<MH3068> had been<MH1961> upon me in the evening<MH6153>, before<MH6440> the survivors<MH6412a> came<MH935>. And He opened<MH6605a> my mouth<MH6310> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>at<MH5704> the<MH5704> time<MH5704> <i>they</i> came<MH935> to me in the morning<MH1242>; so my mouth<MH6310> was opened<MH6605a> and I was<MH481> no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>speechless<MH481>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Then the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to me, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>&#8220;Son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, they who live<MH3427> in these<MH428> ruins<MH2723> in the land<MH127> of Israel<MH3478> are saying<MH559>, &#8216;Abraham<MH85> was <i>only</i> one<MH259>, yet he possessed<MH3423> the land<MH776>; so to us who are many<MH7227a> the land<MH776> has been given<MH5414> as a possession<MH4181>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> say<MH559> to them, &#8216;This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: &#8220;You eat<MH398> <i>meat</i> with the blood<MH1818> <i>in it,</i> raise<MH5375> your eyes<MH5869> to your idols<MH1544> as you shed<MH8210> blood<MH1818>. Should you then possess<MH3423> the land<MH776>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>You <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>rely<MH5975> on your sword<MH2719>, you commit<MH6213a> abominations<MH8441>, and each<MH376> of you defiles<MH2930> his neighbor&#8217;s<MH7453> wife<MH802>. Should you then possess<MH3423> the land<MH776>?&#8221;&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>You shall say<MH559> this<MH3541> to them: &#8216;This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: &#8220;As I live<MH2416a>, those who<MH834> are in the places<MH2723> of<MH2723> ruins<MH2723> certainly<MH518, 3808> will fall<MH5307> by the sword<MH2719>, and whoever<MH834> is in the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>open<MH6440> field<MH7704> I will give<MH5414> to the animals<MH2421b> to be devoured<MH398>, and those who<MH834> are in the strongholds<MH4679> and in the caves<MH4631> will die<MH4191> of plague<MH1698>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And I will make<MH5414> the land<MH776> a desolation<MH8077> and a waste<MH4923>, and the pride<MH1347b> of her power<MH5797> will be brought<MH7673a> to<MH7673a> an<MH7673a> end<MH7673a>; and the mountains<MH2022> of Israel<MH3478> will be<MH8074> deserted<MH8074> so<MH4480> that<MH4480> no<MH369> one<MH369> will pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Then they will know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068>, when I make<MH5414> the land<MH776> a desolation<MH8077> and a waste<MH4923> because<MH5921> of all<MH3605> their abominations<MH8441> which<MH834> they have committed<MH6213a>.&#8221;&#8217; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>&#8220;But as for you, son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>your fellow<MH1121, 5971a> citizens<MH5971a> who talk<MH1696> with one<MH2297> another<MH259> about you by the walls<MH7023> and in the doorways<MH6607> of the houses<MH1004>, speak<MH1696> one<MH2297> with another<MH259>, each<MH376> with his brother<MH251>, saying<MH559>, &#8216;Come<MH935> now<MH4994> and hear<MH8085> what<MH4100> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>message<MH1697> is that comes<MH3318> from the LORD<MH3068>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And they come<MH935> to you as people<MH5971a> come<MH3996>, and sit<MH3427> before<MH6440> you <i>as</i> My people<MH5971a> and hear<MH8085> your words<MH1697>, but they do not do<MH6213a> them; for they do<MH6213a> the lustful<MH5690> desires<MH5690> <i>expressed</i> by their mouth<MH6310>, <i>and</i> their heart<MH3820> follows<MH1980, 310> their unlawful<MH1215> gain<MH1215>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/33-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And behold<MH2009>, you are to them like a love<MH5690> song<MH7892a> <i>by one who has</i> a beautiful<MH3303> voice<MH6963> and plays<MH5059> well<MH3190> on an<MH5059> instrument<MH5059>;
