Ondertussen is het wegennet echter enorm gegroeid, evenals de geavanceerdheid van de verkeersinfrastructuur, dus die raming lijkt een wel erg conservatieve schatting. Een paar jaar geleden berekende de Britse Automobile Association (AA) trouwens dat enkel nog maar de omschakeling van mijl naar kilometer zo’n miljard pond zou kosten.</li> <li><i class="icon-default-style icon-minus-sign extra-color-2"></i>Aangezien de Britten na de omschakeling niet plots massaal een nieuwe auto zouden gaan kopen, zouden in de jaren nadien nog heel wat voertuigen blijven rondrijden met het stuur aan de rechterkant, iets wat sowieso minder veilig is.</li> <li><i class="icon-default-style icon-minus-sign extra-color-2"></i>Gedurende het eerste jaar na de omschakeling zouden er ongetwijfeld meer ongevallen gebeuren. Rijgewoontes zijn immers zo ingesleten dat het voor veel mensen wellicht tijd zou vragen om aan de nieuwe regeling te wennen.
