I do not lie—a teacher of <i>the</i> Gentiles in faith and truth. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Therefore I desire the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, apart from anger and dissension. </p><p class="hdg">Instructions to Women</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Likewise also women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>but with what is becoming to women, professing <i>the</i> fear of God through good works. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Let a woman<span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="Or ‘wife’; also in verse 12">a</a></span> learn in quietness, in all submissiveness. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to use authority over a man,<span class="fn"><a href="#fnb" title="Or ‘over her husband’">b</a></span> but to be in quietness. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>For Adam was formed first, then Eve. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, has come into transgression. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/2-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But she will be saved through childbearing, if they abide in faith and love and holiness, with self-restraint.<A name="fn"><br /><br /></p><A name="fna"></a><span class="footnotesbot">a</span> <span class="fnverse">11</span> <span class="footnote">Or <i>wife</i>;
