The participants in this study were third semester students in English education of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. There were twenty participants in this study in class G. Data were collected using interviews using notes to record the results of the interviews and documentation in the form of student data instruments and taking pictures during the interviews. The tutor plays a very important role in the formation of a student’s capability. Tutorials focus on improving students’ argumentative skills in a particular area of expertise, training self-reflection and teaching to put forward arguments. The article is devoted to peculiarities of applying the tutor&#39;s questioning techniques and writing essays in teaching argumentation to secondary school students. The research aims to identify the most effective ways and means of applying the given methods. The complex of modern general scientific methods has been used for task realization: theoretical methods – analysis and synthesis; empirical methods - observational (direct and indirect observation); diagnostic (expert interviews, conversations). Based upon positive feedback from the e-courses of the subjects Logic I and Logic II, we have decided to add subjects related to critical thinking and argumentation theory to the education process in the humanities-oriented study program Mediamatics and cultural heritage at our University. In this paper, we highlight the need for critical thinking and logic as key instruments in the logical abilities and medial competencies development of students of humanities-oriented study programs. Experiences from e-learning course for Logic during last four years show that study of logic has a high impact on students&#39; professional studies. It aims to analyse and compare the changes in the evolution of the claims and the quality of the written arguments used by university students in two learning scenarios: a first scenario where students participated in a debate with the aim of convincing; and a second scenario where the debate was aimed at achiev- ing an agreement by consensus. The research was designed as a case study, which included 115 undergraduate students studying Turkish language teaching. The data of the study consisted of the participants&#39; argumentative writings and interviews. As data collection tools, the researchers developed an &quot;Evaluation Rubric of Argumentative Text Elements&quot; by conducting validity and reliability tests and prepared a &quot;Semi-structured Interview Form&quot; to uncover the participants&#39; experiences and opinions about argumentative writing. Quantitative data were evaluated using descriptive statistical techniques, and qualitative data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The quantitative results showed that the average success of the participants was 75.2% in topic element, 72.6% in claim element, 65.6% in the element of supporting a claim, 42.3% in counterclaim and backing for the counterclaim, 36.8% in grounds for rebuttals, 49.3% in conclusion element, and the overall average success was 56.54%. The qualitative results indicated that the participants&#39; awareness of argumentative text structure was weak.
