The purpose of this study was to find out the students&#39; perspectives about the effectiveness of argumentative speaking tasks given. This study used a qualitative method. The participants in this study were third semester students in English education of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. There were twenty participants in this study in class G. Data were collected using interviews using notes to record the results of the interviews and documentation in the form of student data instruments and taking pictures during the interviews. The tutor plays a very important role in the formation of a student’s capability. Tutorials focus on improving students’ argumentative skills in a particular area of expertise, training self-reflection and teaching to put forward arguments. The article is devoted to peculiarities of applying the tutor's questioning techniques and writing essays in teaching argumentation to secondary school students. The research aims to identify the most effective ways and means of applying the given methods. The complex of modern general scientific methods has been used for task realization: theoretical methods – analysis and synthesis; empirical methods - observational (direct and indirect observation); diagnostic (expert interviews, conversations). Hidden information attacks have a negative impact on the lives of individuals and society in general. Recently, in this regard, the study of critical thinking seems to be particularly important. In our paper we present the project "Need of multi-dimensional critical thinking in the media competence development", which is dedicated to the scientific, humanistic and practical aspects of multi-dimensional critical thinking and its application in the media competence development. Our project is oriented to university students, professors, assistant professors, lecturers and researchers in different areas of study on one side and artists on the other side. The aim of this project is to provide these persons with basic elements of multi-dimensional critical thinking that could be helpful in progress of their media working abilities. It helps to improve the competence to receive and to interpret medial contents and to be active in medial communication process. Above mentioned skills and abilities can be used in their applied, professional and research activities. Based upon positive feedback from the e-courses of the subjects Logic I and Logic II, we have decided to add subjects related to critical thinking and argumentation theory to the education process in the humanities-oriented study program Mediamatics and cultural heritage at our University. In this paper, we highlight the need for critical thinking and logic as key instruments in the logical abilities and medial competencies development of students of humanities-oriented study programs. Experiences from e-learning course for Logic during last four years show that study of logic has a high impact on students' professional studies. It improves their analytical and synthesis abilities and helps them to deal with various forms of opinion manipulation ultimately. It aims to analyse and compare the changes in the evolution of the claims and the quality of the written arguments used by university students in two learning scenarios: a first scenario where students participated in a debate with the aim of convincing; and a second scenario where the debate was aimed at achiev- ing an agreement by consensus. The participants were 77 first-year university students in Education and Speech Therapy. A quasi-experimental design was adopted with repeated measures, in which students from the two groups wrote two argumentative texts (initial and final) for each type of debate. The results indicate that the initial claims evolved towards more moderate positions at the end of the process; and the quality of the arguments that students wrote in their texts varied significantly depending on the type of demand and the time of writing (initial or final). One prominent, and historically durable, approach is formalist—teachers slot the teaching of argument into a form-based approach, usually using the 5-paragraph theme. This model too often fails to persuade students of the significance of argumentation—the social, ethical, and other work that argument writing and talk does in the world. The research was designed as a case study, which included 115 undergraduate students studying Turkish language teaching. The data of the study consisted of the participants' argumentative writings and interviews. As data collection tools, the researchers developed an "Evaluation Rubric of Argumentative Text Elements" by conducting validity and reliability tests and prepared a "Semi-structured Interview Form" to uncover the participants' experiences and opinions about argumentative writing. Quantitative data were evaluated using descriptive statistical techniques, and qualitative data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The quantitative results showed that the average success of the participants was 75.2% in topic element, 72.6% in claim element, 65.6% in the element of supporting a claim, 42.3% in counterclaim and backing for the counterclaim, 36.8% in grounds for rebuttals, 49.3% in conclusion element, and the overall average success was 56.54%. The qualitative results indicated that the participants' awareness of argumentative text structure was weak.
