Impelled by competitive drivers, innovative technology is being introduced widely in higher education, but the well-documented resistance to change in educational institutions has retarded progress in delivery of sustainable learning outcomes. The need to cope with technological innovation and increasing demands for suitably trained manpower around the world undoubtedly calls for accelerated education and training. It is significant therefore that in a competitive, resource-constrained, and technology-infused global environment, accelerated and actionable progress in education and training are necessary. This will ensure successful and competitive employability to drive economic progress. In this context, projects as change-oriented temporary organizations are viewed as complex ventures broken down into smaller tasks and executed within constraints of cost, time, and quality. Project-based Learning (PBL) has gained credence and momentum as a pragmatic learning tool for non-traditional and hands-on learning through learner-centered problem-solving and innovative application. This study sought to assess the effectiveness of PBL in the acceleration of innovative technology diffusion by primary research of eight senior design teams in a robust Engineering Technology (ET) program. It was concluded that acceleration of learning was possible by using a composite, technology-infused Project-based Learning (PBL) model—incorporating Project Management (PM), Self-Directed Learning (SDL), and Change Leadership (CL). This accelerated model of Project-based Learning (PBL) to enhance learner-centered employability and foster deep learning is deemed to be poised for extensive application in 21st century higher education.</span></span></em></p> <p>  </p> <p> <span style="font-size:14px;"><strong><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva,sans-serif;">DR. VICTOR SOHMEN'S BRIEF BIO/CV:</span></strong></span></p> <p> <span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva,sans-serif;">Dr. Victor Sohmen has taught management and leadership in several countries including Australia, Sweden, Bahrain, the UK, Canada, India, Kuwait, Brazil, and the USA. Since 2012, he has been teaching and researching as an Associate Professor in the areas of Project Management, Leadership, and Higher Education at Drexel University (Philadelphia), and Penn State University (Erie), both in the State of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sohmen has a Ph.D. in Project Leadership and Cross-Cultural Management from The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Management from Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA. His research interests span the areas of project management, higher education, leadership, cross-cultural management, transportation & logistics, research methodology, and interdisciplinary studies. Dr. Sohmen’s original career as a foreign-going ship Captain took him to all the continents (except the Polar Regions!) and instilled in him a deep respect and understanding of people, cultures, and languages around the world. Dr. Sohmen moved to New York after serving briefly as a marine pilot in the Indian port of Cochin in 1982. Since 1983 he has pursued graduate work and research in management on academic scholarships, and worked in industry as a Transportation Coordinator in New York, and as a Project Controls Specialist in Calgary, Canada, with a Cost Engineering certification. He has professional memberships and conference speaking experience with the Project Management Institute (<a href="https://www.pmi.org" target="_blank">PMI</a>), the American Educational Research Association (<a href="https://www.aera.net" target="_blank">AERA</a>), the American Society for Quality (<a href="https://asq.org" target="_blank">ASQ</a>), the American Association for Computing in Education (<a href="https://www.aace.org" target="_blank">AACE</a>), the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (<a href="https://web.aacei.org" target="_blank">AACEI</a>), and the International Leadership Association (<a href="http://www.ila-net.org" target="_blank">ILA</a>). With programs such as Skype in the classroom students all over the globe are able to meet, speak, and work together in real time. The digital tools transform teaching and by using them wisely you can take your students far beyond text- and workbooks and struggling with vocabulary tests. Telecollaboration brings together classes of foreign language learners through computer-mediated communication for the purpose of improving their language skills, intercultural and communicative competence. With digital tools such as Flipgrid and SeeSaw you are able to take your students into a learning space where they are able to understand different cultures. They are able to “travel” and actually see what is it like in other parts of the world. These days, when some borders are being closed, it is important that we teach our students about different cultures and raise awareness about the world around us. With digital tools, it can easily be done. She teaches English at a secondary school and at the University of Malmö.
