Kevin Lynch in the book ‘The image of the city’ develops a framework that breaks down the city’s image into five physical elements. These elements (Paths, Edge, Nodes, Districts, and Landmarks), according to Lynch assess the legibility of the urbanscapes, that emerged from his perception-based study in 3 different cities (New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Boston) in the USA. The aim of this research is to investigate whether Lynch’s framework can be applied within an Indian context or not. If so, what are the possibilities and whether the imageability of Indian cities can be depicted through the Lynch’s physical elements or it demands an extension to the framework by either adding or subtracting a physical attribute. For this research project, the walled city of Jaipur was selected, as it is considered one of the futuristic designed cities of all time in India. The other significant reason for choosing Jaipur was that it is a historically planned city with solid historical, touristic and local importance; allowing an opportunity to understand the application of Lynch's elements to the city's image. In other words, it provides an opportunity to examine how the disadvantages of a city's implicit programme (its relics of bygone eras) can be converted into assets by improving the imageability of the city. To obtain data, a structured semi-open ended interview method was chosen. The reason for selecting this method explicitly was to gain qualitative data from the users rather than collecting quantitative data from closed-ended questions. This allowed in-depth understanding and applicability of Kevin Lynch’s framework while assessing what needs to be added. The interviews were conducted in Jaipur that yielded varied inferences that were different from the expected learning outcomes, highlighting the need for extension on Lynch’s physical elements to achieve city’s image. Whilst analyzing the data, there were few attributes found that defined the image of Jaipur. These were categorized into two: a Physical aspect (streets and arcade entities, natural features, temples and temporary/ informal activities) and Associational aspects (History, Culture and Tradition, Medium of help in wayfinding, and intangible aspects). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=imageability" title="imageability">imageability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Lynch" title=" Kevin Lynch"> Kevin Lynch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=people%E2%80%99s%20perception" title=" people’s perception"> people’s perception</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assessment" title=" assessment"> assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=associational%20aspects" title=" associational aspects"> associational aspects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20aspects" title=" physical aspects"> physical aspects</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155934/assessing-the-applicability-of-kevin-lynchs-framework-of-the-image-of-the-city-in-the-case-of-a-walled-city-of-jaipur" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155934.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">198</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">159</span> Factors Motivating Experienced Secondary Teachers to Remain in the Teaching Profession</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joselito%20Castro%20Gutierrez">Joselito Castro Gutierrez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Herbert%20Orteza"> Herbert Orteza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jervie%20Boligon"> Jervie Boligon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kenneth%20Esteves"> Kenneth Esteves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Edrick%20Kevin%20Ferrer"> Edrick Kevin Ferrer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mark%20Kevin%20Torres"> Mark Kevin Torres</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Vergara"> Patrick Vergara</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Teaching is a noble profession that involves an effective imparting of holistic learning. Consequently, it requires a driving force called motivation. This research aims to determine the motivating factors, problems encountered, solutions made by experienced secondary school teachers to remain in the teaching profession. A mixed unstructured/structured questionnaire was used for gathering data among public secondary school teachers. The researchers have arrived to a conclusion that the dominant motivating factors of teachers to stay in the profession are altruism, extrinsic factors, and self-efficacy. Meanwhile, the prevalent problems these experienced secondary teachers experienced are mutual dilemma, work overload, and personal issues. Teachers have varied methods on solving the problem which are: a) Direct Solution; b) Indirect Solution; and c) Pseudo-Solutions. Lastly, the factors, problems, and solutions, have influential effects on how long a teacher would sustain in teaching which would manifest as positive, negative and neutral effects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=motivation" title="motivation">motivation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=common%20problems%20of%20teachers" title=" common problems of teachers"> common problems of teachers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strategies%20in%20solving%20problems" title=" strategies in solving problems"> strategies in solving problems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teaching%20profession" title=" teaching profession"> teaching profession</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37456/factors-motivating-experienced-secondary-teachers-to-remain-in-the-teaching-profession" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37456.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">445</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">158</span> The Role of Reading Self-Efficacy and Perception of Difficulty in English Reading among Chinese ESL Learners</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Chan">Kevin Chan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20K.%20H.%20Chung"> Kevin K. However, little is known about these relationships among students learning to read English as a second language, particularly in Chinese students. This study examined the contributions of reading self-efficacy, perception of difficulty in reading, and cognitive-linguistic skills to performance on English word reading and reading fluency in Chinese students. Method: A sample of 122 second-and third-grade students in Hong Kong, China, participated in this study. Students completed the measures of reading self-efficacy and perception of difficulty in reading. They were assessed on their English cognitive-linguistic and reading skills: rapid automatized naming, nonword reading, phonological awareness, word reading, and one-minute word reading. Results: Results of path analysis indicated that when students’ grades were controlled, reading self-efficacy was a significant correlate of word reading and reading fluency, whereas perception of difficulty in reading negatively predicted word reading. Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of taking students’ reading self-efficacy and perception of difficulty in reading and their cognitive-linguistic skills into consideration when designing reading intervention and instructions for students learning English as a second language. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-efficacy" title="self-efficacy">self-efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=perception%20of%20difficulty%20in%20reading" title=" perception of difficulty in reading"> perception of difficulty in reading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=english%20as%20a%20second%20language" title=" english as a second language"> english as a second language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=word%20reading" title=" word reading"> word reading</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144471/the-role-of-reading-self-efficacy-and-perception-of-difficulty-in-english-reading-among-chinese-esl-learners" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144471.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">189</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">157</span> Discovery of Exoplanets in Kepler Data Using a Graphics Processing Unit Fast Folding Method and a Deep Learning Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Wang">Kevin Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jian%20Ge"> Jian Ge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yinan%20Zhao"> Yinan Zhao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Willis"> Kevin Willis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Kepler has discovered over 4000 exoplanets and candidates. However, current transit planet detection techniques based on the wavelet analysis and the Box Least Squares (BLS) algorithm have limited sensitivity in detecting minor planets with a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and long periods with only 3-4 repeated signals over the mission lifetime of 4 years. This paper presents a novel precise-period transit signal detection methodology based on a new Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) Fast Folding algorithm in conjunction with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to detect low SNR and/or long-period transit planet signals. A comparison with BLS is conducted on both simulated light curves and real data, demonstrating that the new method has higher speed, sensitivity, and reliability. For instance, the new system can detect transits with SNR as low as three while the performance of BLS drops off quickly around SNR of 7. Meanwhile, the GPU Fast Folding method folds light curves 25 times faster than BLS, a significant gain that allows exoplanet detection to occur at unprecedented period precision. This new method has been tested with all known transit signals with 100% confirmation. In addition, this new method has been successfully applied to the Kepler of Interest (KOI) data and identified a few new Earth-sized Ultra-short period (USP) exoplanet candidates and habitable planet candidates. The results highlight the promise for GPU Fast Folding as a replacement to the traditional BLS algorithm for finding small and/or long-period habitable and Earth-sized planet candidates in-transit data taken with Kepler and other space transit missions such as TESS(Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) and PLATO(PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=algorithms" title="algorithms">algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=astronomy%20data%20analysis" title=" astronomy data analysis"> astronomy data analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title=" deep learning"> deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exoplanet%20detection%20methods" title=" exoplanet detection methods"> exoplanet detection methods</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=small%20planets" title=" small planets"> small planets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=habitable%20planets" title=" habitable planets"> habitable planets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transit%20%20photometry" title=" transit photometry"> transit photometry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140507/discovery-of-exoplanets-in-kepler-data-using-a-graphics-processing-unit-fast-folding-method-and-a-deep-learning-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140507.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">225</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">156</span> A Collaborative Application of Six Sigma and Value Engineering in Supply Chain and Logistics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arun%20Raja">Arun Raja</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Thomas"> Kevin Thomas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sreyas%20Tribhu"> Sreyas Tribhu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20P.%20Anbuudayasankar"> S. Further, a Value Stream Mapping (VSM) analysis has been executed on the manufacturing process flow model and the manner by which Value Engineering (VE) holds a significant importance for quality assertion on the products is also studied. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supply%20chain" title="supply chain">supply chain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=six%20sigma" title=" six sigma"> six sigma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=value%20engineering" title=" value engineering"> value engineering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=logistics" title=" logistics"> logistics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality" title=" quality"> quality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26314/a-collaborative-application-of-six-sigma-and-value-engineering-in-supply-chain-and-logistics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26314.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">678</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">155</span> The Good Form of a Sustainable Creative Learning City Based on “The Theory of a Good City Form“ by Kevin Lynch</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatemeh%20Moosavi">Fatemeh Moosavi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tumelo%20Franck%20Nkoshwane"> Tumelo Franck Nkoshwane</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Peter Drucker the renowned management guru once said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Mr. Drucker is also the man who placed human capital as the most vital resource of any institution. As such any institution bent on creating a better future, requires a competent human capital, one that is able to execute with efficiency and effectiveness the objective a society aspires to. Technology today is accelerating the rate at which many societies transition to knowledge based societies. In this accelerated paradigm, it is imperative that those in leadership establish a platform capable of sustaining the planned future; intellectual capital. The capitalist economy going into the future will not just be sustained by dollars and cents, but by individuals who possess the creativity to enterprise, innovate and create wealth from ideas. This calls for cities of the future, to have this premise at the heart of their future plan, if the objective of designing sustainable and liveable future cities will be realised. The knowledge economy, now transitioning to the creative economy, requires cities of the future to be ‘gardens’ of inspiration, to be places where knowledge, creativity, and innovation can thrive as these instruments are becoming critical assets for creating wealth in the new economic system. Developing nations must accept that learning is a lifelong process that requires keeping abreast with change and should invest in teaching people how to keep learning. The need to continuously update one’s knowledge, turn these cities into vibrant societies, where new ideas create knowledge and in turn enriches the quality of life of the residents. Cities of the future must have as one of their objectives, the ability to motivate their citizens to learn, share knowledge, evaluate the knowledge and use it to create wealth for a just society. The five functional factors suggested by Kevin Lynch;-vitality, meaning/sense, adaptability, access, control, and monitoring should form the basis on which policy makers and urban designers base their plans for future cities. The authors of this paper believe that developing nations “creative economy clusters”, cities where creative industries drive the need for constant new knowledge creating sustainable learning creative cities. Obviously the form, shape and size of these districts should be cognisant of the environmental, cultural and economic characteristics of each locale. Gaborone city in the republic of Botswana is presented as the case study for this paper. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=learning%20city" title="learning city">learning city</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20creative%20city" title=" sustainable creative city"> sustainable creative city</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=creative%20industry" title=" creative industry"> creative industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=good%20city%20form" title=" good city form"> good city form</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5619/the-good-form-of-a-sustainable-creative-learning-city-based-on-the-theory-of-a-good-city-form-by-kevin-lynch" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5619.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">310</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">154</span> Satisfaction of International Tourists during Their Visit to Bangkok, Thailand</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bovornluck%20Kuosuwan">Bovornluck Kuosuwan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Wongleedee"> Kevin Wongleedee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purposes of this research was to study the level of satisfaction of international tourists in five important areas: satisfaction on visiting tourist destinations, satisfaction on tourist images, satisfaction on value for money, satisfaction on service quality, and satisfaction when compared with their expectation. In co-gasification, where coal is gasified along with biomass, the biomass may be fed together with coal (co-feeding) or an independent biomass gasifier needs to be integrated with the coal gasifier. The main aim of this work is to evaluate the biomass introduction methods in coal co-gasification. This includes the evaluation of biomass concentration input (B0 to B100) and its gasification performance. A process model is developed and simulated in Aspen HYSYS, where both coal and biomass are modeled according to its ultimate analysis. It was found that the syngas produced increased with increasing biomass content for both co-feeding and independent schemes. However, the heating values and heat duties decreases with biomass concentration as more CO2 are produced from complete combustion. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aspen%20HYSYS" title="aspen HYSYS">aspen HYSYS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomass" title=" biomass"> biomass</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coal" title=" coal"> coal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=co-gasification%20modelling" title=" co-gasification modelling"> co-gasification modelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17080/evaluation-of-biomass-introduction-methods-in-coal-co-gasification" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17080.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">409</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">146</span> Customers’ Satisfaction of ASEAN Camp: A Camp to Provide Training and Knowledge to Faculty and Staff Members</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Wongleedee">Kevin Wongleedee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Atcharapun%20Daiporn"> Atcharapun Daiporn</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research paper was aimed to examine the level of satisfaction of the faculty and staff members who participated in the ASEAN camp. The majority of inbound tourists rated the overall perceived value at a medium level of importance since the overall mean was 4.41 which was less than 4.5. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=perceived%20values" title="perceived values">perceived values</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tourist%20destination" title=" tourist destination"> tourist destination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=visiting" title=" visiting"> visiting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thailand" title=" Thailand"> Thailand</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9158/importance-of-perceived-values-a-case-of-inbound-tourists-revisiting-bangkok-thailand" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9158.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">310</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">144</span> Implications of Private Military Security Companies on Stewardship of the Profession of Arms</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Krupski">Kevin Krupski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Private Military Security Companies have grown to become a major force contributor to nations in military operations. Scholars have debated the implications of this in relation to control and efficiency related to the privatization of violence, but there has been little discussion on how these companies affect the profession of arms. Specifically, this paper seeks to address how the privatization of violence influences the military’s stewardship, whether private military security companies are capable of stewardship of the military profession, and whether there are aspects of stewardship of the military profession that private military security companies are capable of emulating. This paper reviews literature on stewardship, the relationship of the military to the state, and private military security companies in order to identify overlap between uniformed military services and the private sector. Then, it offers a typology for determining under what conditions an organization would act as a steward. Ultimately, there are insufficient reasons for private military security companies to act as stewards of the profession of arms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stewardship" title="stewardship">stewardship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=military%20profession" title=" military profession"> military profession</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=civil-military" title=" civil-military"> civil-military</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=security" title=" security"> security</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84135/implications-of-private-military-security-companies-on-stewardship-of-the-profession-of-arms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84135.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">251</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">143</span> Factors Influencing the Decision of International Tourists to Revisit Bangkok,Thailand </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taksina%20Bunbut">Taksina Bunbut</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Wongleedee"> Kevin Wongleedee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purposes of this research were to study factors influencing the decision of international tourists to revisit Bangkok, Thailand. We first examine existing methods in competition practice and statistical literature for discarding or correcting jurors' scores that deviate significantly from the mean or median of all scores. We then introduce a method that involves eliminating all scores of outlier jurors, i.e., those jurors whose ratings significantly differ from those of other jurors. The properties of these standard and proposed methods are discussed in hypothetical voting scenarios, where one or more jurors assign scores that deviate considerably from the scores awarded by other jurors. Finally, we present examples of applying various methods to real-world data from piano competitions, demonstrating the potential effectiveness and implications of each approach in reducing manipulation within these events. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=voting%20systems" title="voting systems">voting systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=manipulation" title=" manipulation"> manipulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=outlier%20scores" title=" outlier scores"> outlier scores</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=outlier%20jurors" title=" outlier jurors"> outlier jurors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165256/discarding-or-correcting-outlier-scores-vs-excluding-outlier-jurors-to-reduce-manipulation-in-classical-music-competitions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165256.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">136</span> Impact of Network Workload between Virtualization Solutions on a Testbed Environment for Cybersecurity Learning</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Fernagut">Kevin Fernagut</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olivier%20Flauzac"> Olivier Flauzac</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erick%20M.%20G.%20Robledo"> Erick M. This paper seeks to assess this with a different approach studying the behavior of a testbed built with tools such as Kernel-Based Virtual Machine (KVM), Linux Containers (LXC) and Docker, by performing stress tests within a platform where students experiment simultaneously with cyber-attacks, and thus observe the impact on the campus network and also find the best solution for cyber-security learning. Interesting outcomes can be found in the literature comparing these technologies. It is, however, difficult to find results of the effects on the global network where experiments are carried out. Our work shows that other physical hosts and the faculty network were impacted while performing these trials. The problems found are discussed, as well as security solutions and the adoption of new network policies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=containerization" title="containerization">containerization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=containers" title=" containers"> containers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cybersecurity" title=" cybersecurity"> cybersecurity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyberattacks" title=" cyberattacks"> cyberattacks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=isolation" title=" isolation"> isolation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance" title=" performance"> performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtualization" title=" virtualization"> virtualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtual%20machines" title=" virtual machines"> virtual machines</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127012/impact-of-network-workload-between-virtualization-solutions-on-a-testbed-environment-for-cybersecurity-learning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127012.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">149</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">135</span> Cell Elevator: A Novel Technique for Cell Sorting and Circulating Tumor Cell Detection and Discrimination</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kevin%20Zhao">Kevin Zhao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norman%20J.%20Horing"> Norman J. The technique is based on Dielectrophoresis and microfluidic device theory. Specifically, the sorting of the cells is realized by adjusting the relation among the sedimentation forces, the drag force provided by the fluid, and the Dielectrophortic force that is relevant to the bias voltage applied on the device. The relation leads to manipulation of the elevation of the cells of the same kind to a height by controlling the bias voltage. Once the cells have been lifted to a position next to the bottom of the cell collection channel, the buffer fluid flashes them into the cell collection channel. Repeated elevation of the cells leads to a complete sorting of the cells in the sample chamber. A proof-of-principle example is presented which verifies the feasibility of the methodology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20sorter" title="cell sorter">cell sorter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CTC%20cell" title=" CTC cell"> CTC cell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=detection%20and%20discrimination" title=" detection and discrimination"> detection and discrimination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dielectrophoresisords" title=" dielectrophoresisords"> dielectrophoresisords</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40753/cell-elevator-a-novel-technique-for-cell-sorting-and-circulating-tumor-cell-detection-and-discrimination" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40753.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">432</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">134</span> Integrating Eye-Tracking Analysis to Enhance Web Usability Evaluation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johanna%20Renny%20Octavia">Johanna Renny Octavia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meliana%20Nurdin"> Meliana Nurdin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ignatius%20Kevin%20Kurniawan"> Ignatius Kevin Kurniawan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricca%20Aksara"> Ricca Aksara</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It is widely believed that usability evaluation is necessary to evaluate a website design for further improvement. Traditional methods of usability evaluation have given sufficient insights to reveal usability problems of websites. Eye-tracking analysis has been considered as a useful method that adds a powerful dimension to web usability evaluation. It allows web designers and usability researchers to understand exactly what users do and do not see on a web page, thus disclose more information on web usability and provide a more complete insights on a website design. This paper elaborates on moving beyond traditional methods of web usability evaluation by integrating eye-tracking analysis to enhance the evaluation of website design, and presents three case studies to support this approach. In these case studies, eye movement metrics such as gaze plots and fixation-derived metrics, and user performance data such as task completion times and number of errors were recorded as objective measurements that can inform the necessity for website design improvements. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design" title="design">design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eye-tracking" title=" eye-tracking"> eye-tracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=usability%20evaluation" title=" usability evaluation"> usability evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=website" title=" website"> website</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54471/integrating-eye-tracking-analysis-to-enhance-web-usability-evaluation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54471.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">303</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">133</span> Education for Sustainable Development and Primary Education in China: A Case Study </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ronghui%20%28Kevin%29%20Zhou">Ronghui (Kevin) Zhou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research intends to explore the enactment of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), in term of the ESD concept, in primary schools in China, and investigate the factors that have positively or negatively impacted the outcome of ESD in urban primary schools in China. The proposed research question is: how is the ESD concept perceived and enacted by the local education stakeholders. This research is conducted in multiple primary schools in China and has questionnaired and interviewed multiple education stakeholders, including school principals, school teachers, and bureau from the municipal Ministry of Education. Factor analysis, regression analysis, and critical discourse analysis are adopted to interpret and analyze the data. The preliminary findings suggest that contested ESD definition, education system pressures, education policy enforcement, and power dynamics between stakeholders are the key factors that have determined to what degree is ESD enacted, and to what extent is ESD practiced in primary schools in China. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
