Consequently, it requires a driving force called motivation. This research aims to determine the motivating factors, problems encountered, solutions made by experienced secondary school teachers to remain in the teaching profession. A mixed unstructured/structured questionnaire was used for gathering data among public secondary school teachers. The researchers have arrived to a conclusion that the dominant motivating factors of teachers to stay in the profession are altruism, extrinsic factors, and self-efficacy. Meanwhile, the prevalent problems these experienced secondary teachers experienced are mutual dilemma, work overload, and personal issues. Teachers have varied methods on solving the problem which are: a) Direct Solution; b) Indirect Solution; and c) Pseudo-Solutions. Lastly, the factors, problems, and solutions, have influential effects on how long a teacher would sustain in teaching which would manifest as positive, negative and neutral effects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=motivation" title="motivation">motivation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=common%20problems%20of%20teachers" title=" common problems of teachers"> common problems of teachers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strategies%20in%20solving%20problems" title=" strategies in solving problems"> strategies in solving problems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teaching%20profession" title=" teaching profession"> teaching profession</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37456/factors-motivating-experienced-secondary-teachers-to-remain-in-the-teaching-profession" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37456.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">445</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">190</span> Anion Exchange Nanocomposite Membrane Doped with ZnO-Nanoparticles for Direct Methanol Alkaline Fuel Cell</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Phumlani%20Msomi">Phumlani Msomi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Nonjola"> Patrick Nonjola</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Ndungu"> Patrick Ndungu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=James%20Ramontja"> James Ramontja</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A series of quaternized poly (2.6 dimethyl – 1.4 phenylene oxide)/ polysulfone (QPPO/PSF) blend anion exchange membrane (AEM) were successfully fabricated and characterized for methanol alkaline fuel cell application. Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were introduced in the polymer matrix to enhance the intrinsic properties of the AEM. To confirm successful fabrication, FT-IR spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (¹H NMR and HMBC ¹⁵N NMR) were used. The membrane properties were enhanced by the addition of ZnO nanoparticles. The addition of ZnO nanoparticles resulted to a higher ion exchange capacity (IEC) of 3.72 mmol.g⁻¹and a 30-fold ion conductivity (IC) increase of the nanocomposite due to no (zero (0)) methanol permeability at 30 °C and increased water uptake. The QPPO/PSF/2% ZnO composite retained over 80 % of its initial IC when evaluated for alkaline stability at room temperature. The maximum power output reached for the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) constructed with QPPO/PSF/2%ZnO is 69 mW.cm⁻², which is about three times more than the parent QPPO membrane. The above results indicate that QPPO/PSF-ZnO is a good candidate as an anion exchange membrane for fuel cell application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anion%20exchange%20membrane" title="anion exchange membrane">anion exchange membrane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuel%20cell" title=" fuel cell"> fuel cell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zinc%20oxide" title=" zinc oxide"> zinc oxide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanocomposite" title=" nanocomposite"> nanocomposite</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75947/anion-exchange-nanocomposite-membrane-doped-with-zno-nanoparticles-for-direct-methanol-alkaline-fuel-cell" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75947.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">272</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">189</span> Synthesis and Characterization of Model Amines for Corrosion Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Vergara">John Vergara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Giuseppe%20Palmese"> Giuseppe Palmese</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fundamental studies aimed at elucidating the key contributions to corrosion performance are needed to make progress toward effective and environmentally compliant corrosion control. Epoxy/amine systems are typically employed as barrier coatings for corrosion control. However, the hardening agents used for coating applications can be very complex, making fundamental studies of water and oxygen permeability challenging to carry out. Creating model building blocks for epoxy/amine coatings is the first step in carrying out these studies. We will demonstrate the synthesis and characterization of model amine building blocks from saturated fatty acids and simple amines such as diethylenetriamine (DETA) and Bis(3-aminopropyl)amine. The structure-property relationship of thermosets made from these model amines and Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGBEA) will be discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20block" title="building block">building block</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=amine" title=" amine"> amine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synthesis" title=" synthesis"> synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=characterization" title=" characterization"> characterization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19436/synthesis-and-characterization-of-model-amines-for-corrosion-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19436.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">540</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">188</span> The Effects of an Intervention Program on Psychosocial Factors and Consequences during the COVID-19 Pandemic in a Chilean Technology Services Company: A Quasi-Experimental Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Julio%20Lavarello-Salinas">Julio Lavarello-Salinas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ver%C3%B3nica%20Kramm-Vergara"> Verónica Kramm-Vergara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pedro%20Gil-La%20Orden"> Pedro Gil-La Orden</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> During the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health became a relevant factor in people’s performance within organizations. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of an organizational intervention program on the psychosocial factors of demands, resources, and the consequences of psychosocial risks in a technology services company during the COVID-19 pandemic. A quasi-experimental study was carried out with 105 employees who took part in an eight-week intervention program divided into two large stages. Pre- and post- measurements were collected using the UNIPSICO Questionnaire, considering its factors of demands, resources, and consequences of psychosocial risks. The Spanish Burnout Inventory (SBI) was also included. The results showed significant improvements in the perception of some psychosocial demand factors, all the resource factors, and all the consequences of psychosocial risks, except the guilt dimension of the SBI. Thus, we can conclude that the program was effective and that the study limitations should be improved in future studies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=UNIPSICO%20questionnaire" title="UNIPSICO questionnaire">UNIPSICO questionnaire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=occupational%20health" title=" occupational health"> occupational health</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=work%20stress" title=" work stress"> work stress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=work%20psychosocial%20risk" title=" work psychosocial risk"> work psychosocial risk</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153598/the-effects-of-an-intervention-program-on-psychosocial-factors-and-consequences-during-the-covid-19-pandemic-in-a-chilean-technology-services-company-a-quasi-experimental-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153598.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">187</span> A Research on Determining the Viability of a Job Board Website for Refugees in Kenya</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prince%20Mugoya">Prince Mugoya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Collins%20Oduor%20Ondiek"> Collins Oduor Ondiek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Kanyi%20Wamuyu"> Patrick Kanyi Wamuyu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Refugee Job Board Website is a web-based application that provides a platform for organizations to post jobs specifically for refugees. Yet, this also has the disadvantage of highly polluting inorganic semiconductor manufacturing processes. Therefore, the use of molecular semiconductors must be considered. In this work, allene compounds C24H26O4 and C24H26O5 were used as dopants to manufacture semiconductors films based on PbPc by high-vacuum evaporation technique. IR spectroscopy was carried out to determine the phase and any significant chemical changes which may occur during the thermal evaporation. According to UV-visible spectroscopy and Tauc’s model, the deposition process generated thin films with an activation energy range of 1.47 to 1.55 eV for direct transitions and 1.29 to 1.33 eV for indirect transitions. These values place the manufactured films within the range of low bandgap semiconductors. The flexible devices were manufactured: polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Indium tin oxide (ITO)/organic semiconductor/ Cubic Close Packed (CCP). The characterization of the devices was carried out by evaluating electrical conductivity using the four-probe collinear method. I-V curves were obtained under different lighting conditions at room temperature. OS1 (PbPc/C24H26O4) showed an Ohmic behavior, while OS2 (PbPc/C24H26O5) reached higher current values at lower voltages. The results obtained show that the semiconductors devices doped with allene compounds can be used in the manufacture of optoelectronic devices. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrical%20properties" title="electrical properties">electrical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20gap" title=" optical gap"> optical gap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phthalocyanine" title=" phthalocyanine"> phthalocyanine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thin%20film." title=" thin film."> thin film.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140538/application-of-molecular-materials-in-the-manufacture-of-flexible-and-organic-devices-for-photovoltaic-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140538.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">249</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">185</span> Synthesis of Modified Cellulose for the Capture of Uranyl Ions from Aqueous Solutions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudia%20Vergara">Claudia Vergara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oscar%20Valdes"> Oscar Valdes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaime%20Tapia"> Jaime Tapia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leonardo%20Santos"> Leonardo Santos</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The poly(amidoamine) dendrimers (PAMAM) are a class of material introduced by D. Tomalia. Modifications of the PAMAM dendrimer with several functional groups have attracted the attention for new interesting properties and new applications in many fields such as chemistry, physics, biology, and medicine. However, in the last few years, the use of dendrimers in environmental applications has increased due to pollution concerns. In this contribution, we report the synthesis of three new PAMAM derivates modified with asparagine aminoacid supported in cellulose: PG0-Asn (PAMAM-asparagine), PG0-Asn-Trt (with trityl group) and PG0-Asn-Boc-Trt (with tert-butyl oxycarbonyl group). The functionalization of generation 0 PAMAM dendrimer was carried out by amidation reaction by using an EDC/HOBt protocol. In a second step, functionalized dendrimer was covalently supported to the cellulose surface and used to study the capture of uranyl ions from aqueous solution by fluorescence spectroscopy. The structure and purity of the desired products were confirmed by conventional techniques such as FT-IR, MALDI, elemental analysis, and ESI-MS. Batch experiments were carried out to determine the affinity of uranyl ions with the dendrimer in aqueous solution. Firstly, the optimal conditions for uranyl capture were obtained, where the optimum pH for the removal was 6, the contact time was 4 hours, the initial concentration of uranyl was 100 ppm, and the amount of the adsorbent to be used was 2.5 mg. PAMAM significantly increased the capture of uranyl ions with respect to cellulose as the starting substrate, reaching 94.8% of capture (PG0), followed by 91.2% corresponding to PG0-Asn-Trt, then 70.3% PG0-Asn and 24.2% PG0-Asn-Boc-Trt. The here-presented approach aims at providing methodologies and tools to effectively manage these situations and fostering the implementation of virtuous symbiotic investments in manufacturing aggregations for a more sustainable production. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20model" title="business model">business model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=industrial%20symbiosis" title=" industrial symbiosis"> industrial symbiosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=industrial%20agglomerations" title=" industrial agglomerations"> industrial agglomerations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title=" sustainability"> sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62439/a-multi-level-approach-to-improve-sustainability-performances-of-industrial-agglomerations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62439.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">290</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">183</span> Reaction Kinetics of Biodiesel Production from Refined Cottonseed Oil Using Calcium Oxide</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ude%20N.%20Callistus">Ude N. The kinetics study was carried out at temperatures of 45, 55 and 65 oC. The kinetic parameters such as reaction order 2.02 and rate constant 2.8 hr-1g-1cat, obtained at the temperature of 65 oC best fitted the kinetic model. The activation energy, Ea obtained was 127.744 KJ/mol. A smart grid is an essential part of any smart city as both consumers and power utility companies benefit from the features provided by the power grid. In addition to advanced features presented by smart grids, there may also be a risk when the grids are exposed to malicious acts such as security attacks performed by terrorists. Considering advanced security measures in the design of smart meters could reduce these risks. These digitization parameters are the resolution of the analog to digital conversion and the sampling rate. This is accomplished through the derivation of characteristic curves based on Fano inequality and the calculation of the mutual information content over a given dataset. The mutual information is calculated between the examples in the dataset and the corresponding variation in the feature that needs to be estimated. The optimal parameters are identified in a manner that ensures optimal estimation performance while preventing inefficiency in using unnecessarily powerful analog to digital converters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=analog%20to%20digital%20conversion" title="analog to digital conversion">analog to digital conversion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digitization" title=" digitization"> digitization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sampling%20rate" title=" sampling rate"> sampling rate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic" title=" ultrasonic"> ultrasonic</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141040/an-application-driven-procedure-for-optimal-signal-digitization-of-automotive-grade-ultrasonic-sensors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141040.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">207</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">180</span> Integrated Framework for Establishing Born-Global Firms in Sub-Saharan Africa</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nonso%20Ochinanwata">Nonso Ochinanwata</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Oseloka%20Ezepue"> Patrick Oseloka Ezepue</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper explores the process of creating and capturing born-global firm opportunities. Formal institutions (business regulatory environment, property rights, social protection, and a developed financial sector) impact the likelihood of MFIs being for-profit across countries. Cultural differences across countries (power distance, individualism, masculinity, and indulgence) seem to be a factor in the legal status of the MFI (non-profit or for-profit). MFIs in countries with stronger formal institutions, a greater degree of power distance, and a higher degree of collectivism experience better financial and social performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hofstede%20cultural%20dimensions" title="Hofstede cultural dimensions">Hofstede cultural dimensions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=international%20finance" title=" international finance"> international finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microfinance%20institutions" title=" microfinance institutions"> microfinance institutions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-profite" title=" non-profite"> non-profite</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116363/cultural-effects-on-the-performance-of-non-profit-and-for-profit-microfinance-institutions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116363.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">273</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">178</span> Coherence and Cohesion in IELTS Academic Writing: Helping Students to Improve</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rory%20Patrick%20O%27Kane">Rory Patrick O'Kane</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> More universities and third level institutions now require at least an IELTS Band 6 for entry into courses of study for non-native speakers of English. They are widely used as anti hypertension, anti tubercular, anticancer activity, antiviral, Alzheimer's disease, antioxidant properties, and free radical induced lipid peroxidation. Many drugs and natural products contain indole moiety, such as the vinca alkaloids, fungal metabolites and marine natural products. Generally applicable synthetic methods for indole moiety involve ring closure to form the pyrrole. Indole derivatives can also be accessed by further functionalization of the indole nucleus. Three areas in the Philippines where mariculture parks are still in active operation were identified as study sites for this research. Financial analysis was used to estimate profitability of mariculture operations in the selected study sites. Based on the result of this research, milkfish production in mariculture parks remains profitable both in terms of net profit generation and the return on investment. To improve the profitability of aquaculture operations in mariculture parks, the relatively high price of operational inputs should be managed. As a recommendation, further studies should be conducted on the profitability of aquaculture operations in mariculture parks in the country to include other factors which may cause losses on the part of the operator and factors that may affect price of produce upon harvest. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mariculture%20parks" title="mariculture parks">mariculture parks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=milkfish%20production" title=" milkfish production"> milkfish production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aquaculture" title=" aquaculture"> aquaculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=profitability" title=" profitability"> profitability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147020/profitability-of-milkfish-production-from-three-mariculture-parks-in-the-philippines" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147020.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">172</span> Analysis of Cross-Correlations in Emerging Markets Using Random Matrix Theory</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20Chinwe%20Urama">Thomas Chinwe Urama</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Oseloka%20Ezepue"> Patrick Oseloka Ezepue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peters%20Chimezie%20Nnanwa"> Peters Chimezie Nnanwa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper investigates the universal financial dynamics in two dominant stock markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, through an in-depth analysis of the cross-correlation matrix of price returns in Nigerian Stock Market (NSM) and Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), for the period 2009 to 2013. The strength of correlations between stocks is known to be higher in JSE than that of the NSM. Particularly important for modelling Nigerian derivatives in the future, the interactions of other stocks with the oil sector are weak, whereas the banking sector has strong positive interactions with the other sectors in the stock exchange. For the JSE, it is the oil sector and beverages that have greater sectorial correlations, instead of the banks which have the weaker correlation with other sectors in the stock exchange. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20matrix%20theory" title="random matrix theory">random matrix theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cross-correlations" title=" cross-correlations"> cross-correlations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emerging%20markets" title=" emerging markets"> emerging markets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=option%20pricing" title=" option pricing"> option pricing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eigenvalues%20eigenvectors" title=" eigenvalues eigenvectors"> eigenvalues eigenvectors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inverse%20participation%20ratios%20and%20implied%20volatility" title=" inverse participation ratios and implied volatility"> inverse participation ratios and implied volatility</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65711/analysis-of-cross-correlations-in-emerging-markets-using-random-matrix-theory" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65711.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">299</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">171</span> A Study of the Costs and Benefits of Smart City Projects Including the Scenario of Public-Private Partnerships</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20T.%20I.%20Lam">Patrick T. Externalities come into the picture, but they are often difficult to quantify. Despite this barrier, policy makers need to carry out cost-benefit analysis to justify the huge investments needed to make a city smart. The recent trend is towards the engagement of the private sector to utilize their resources and expertise, especially in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) areas, where innovations blossom. This study focuses on the identification of costs (on a life cycle basis) and benefits associated with smart city project developments based on a comprehensive literature review and case studies, where public-private partnerships would warrant consideration, the related costs and benefits are highlighted. The findings will be useful for policy makers of cities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smart%20city%20projects" title="smart city projects">smart city projects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=costs%20and%20benefits" title=" costs and benefits"> costs and benefits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=identification" title=" identification"> identification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public-private%20partnerships" title=" public-private partnerships"> public-private partnerships</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71175/a-study-of-the-costs-and-benefits-of-smart-city-projects-including-the-scenario-of-public-private-partnerships" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71175.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">338</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">170</span> Compressible Flow Modeling in Pipes and Porous Media during Blowdown Experiment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20Paris">Thomas Paris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vincent%20Bruyere"> Vincent Bruyere</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Namy"> Patrick Namy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A numerical model is developed to simulate gas blowdowns through a thin tube and a filter (porous media), separating a high pressure gas filled reservoir to low pressure ones. Based on a previous work, a one-dimensional approach is developed by using the finite element method to solve the transient compressible flow and to predict the pressure and temperature evolution in space and time. Mass, momentum, and energy conservation equations are solved in a fully coupled way in the reservoirs, the pipes and the porous media. Numerical results, such as pressure and temperature evolutions, are firstly compared with experimental data to validate the model for different configurations. Couplings between porous media and pipe flow are then validated by checking mass balance. The influence of the porous media and the nature of the gas is then studied for different initial high pressure values. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressible%20flow" title="compressible flow">compressible flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluid%20mechanics" title=" fluid mechanics"> fluid mechanics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer" title=" heat transfer"> heat transfer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=porous%20media" title=" porous media"> porous media</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95747/compressible-flow-modeling-in-pipes-and-porous-media-during-blowdown-experiment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95747.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">406</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">169</span> Sediment Transport Monitoring in the Port of Veracruz Expansion Project</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Francisco%20Lia%C3%B1o-Carrera">Francisco Liaño-Carrera</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Isaac%20Ram%C3%ADrez-Mac%C3%ADas"> José Isaac Ramírez-Macías</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Salas-Monreal"> David Salas-Monreal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mayra%20Lorena%20Riveron-Enzastiga"> Mayra Lorena Riveron-Enzastiga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcos%20Rangel-Avalos"> Marcos Rangel-Avalos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adriana%20Andrea%20Rold%C3%A1n-Ubando"> Adriana Andrea Roldán-Ubando</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The construction of most coastal infrastructure developments around the world are usually made considering wave height, current velocities and river discharges; however, little effort has been paid to surveying sediment transport during dredging or the modification to currents outside the ports or marinas during and after the construction. This study shows a complete survey during the construction of one of the largest ports of the Gulf of Mexico. An anchored Acoustic Doppler Current Velocity profiler (ADCP), a towed ADCP and a combination of model outputs were used at the Veracruz port construction in order to describe the hourly sediment transport and current modifications in and out of the new port. Owing to the stability of the system the new port was construction inside Vergara Bay, a low wave energy system with a tidal range of up to 0.40 m. The results show a two-current system pattern within the bay. The north side of the bay has an anticyclonic gyre, while the southern part of the bay shows a cyclonic gyre. Sediment transport trajectories were made every hour using the anchored ADCP, a numerical model and the weekly data obtained from the towed ADCP within the entire bay. The sediment transport trajectories were carefully tracked since the bay is surrounded by coral reef structures which are sensitive to sedimentation rate and water turbidity. The survey shows that during dredging and rock input used to build the wave breaker sediments were locally added (< 2500 m2) and local currents disperse it in less than 4 h. While the river input located in the middle of the bay and the sewer system plant may add more than 10 times this amount during a rainy day or during the tourist season. Finally, the coastal line obtained seasonally with a drone suggests that the southern part of the bay has not been modified by the construction of the new port located in the northern part of the bay, owing to the two subsystem division of the bay. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Acoustic%20Doppler%20Current%20Profiler" title="Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler">Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=construction%20around%20coral%20reefs" title="construction around coral reefs">construction around coral reefs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dredging" title=" dredging"> dredging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=port%20construction" title=" port construction"> port construction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sediment%20transport%20monitoring" title=" sediment transport monitoring"> sediment transport monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=" title=""></a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56628/sediment-transport-monitoring-in-the-port-of-veracruz-expansion-project" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/56628.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">227</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">168</span> Integrating Human Preferences into the Automated Decisions of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arwa%20Khannoussi">Arwa Khannoussi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexandru-Liviu%20Olteanu"> Alexandru-Liviu Olteanu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pritesh%20Narayan"> Pritesh Narayan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Catherine%20Dezan"> Catherine Dezan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Philippe%20Diguet"> Jean-Philippe Diguet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Meyer"> Patrick Meyer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jacques%20Petit-Frere"> Jacques Petit-Frere</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Due to the nature of autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) missions, it is important that the decisions of a UAV stay consistent with the priorities of an operator, while at the same time allowing them to be easily audited and explained. F. Bertens</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The houses we inhabit are important containers of memory. As homes, they take on meaning for those who live inside, and memories of family life become intimately tied up with rooms, windows, and gardens. Each new family creates a new layer of meaning, resulting in a palimpsest of family memory. These houses function quite literally as memory palaces, as a walk through a childhood home will show; each room conjures up images of past events. Over time, these personal memories become woven together with the cultural memory of countries and generations. The importance of the home is a central theme in art, and several contemporary artists have a special interest in the relationship between memory and the home. This paper analyses three case studies in order to get a deeper understanding of the ways in which the home functions and feels like a memory palace, both on an individual and on a collective, cultural level. Close reading of the artworks is performed on the theoretical intersection between Art History and Cultural Memory Studies. The first case study concerns works from the exhibition Mnemosyne by the artist duo Anne and Patrick Poirier. These works combine interests in architecture, archaeology, and psychology. Models of cities and fantastical architectural designs resemble physical structures (such as the brain), architectural metaphors used in representing the concept of memory (such as the memory palace), and archaeological remains, essential to our shared cultural memories. Secondly, works by Do Ho Suh will help us understand the relationship between the home and memory on a far more personal level; outlines of rooms from his former homes, made of colourful, transparent fabric and combined into new structures, provide an insight into the way these spaces retain individual memories. The spaces have been emptied out, and only the husks remain. Although the remnants of walls, light switches, doors, electricity outlets, etc. are standard, mass-produced elements found in many homes and devoid of inherent meaning, together they remind us of the emotional significance attached to the muscle memory of spaces we once inhabited. The third case study concerns an exhibition in a house put up for sale on the Dutch real estate website Funda. The house was built in 1933 by a Jewish family fleeing from Germany, and the father and son were later deported and killed. The artists Anne van As and CA Wertheim have used the history and memories of the house as a starting point for an exhibition called (T)huis, a combination of the Dutch words for home and house. This case study illustrates the way houses become containers of memories; each new family ‘resets’ the meaning of a house, but traces of earlier memories remain. The exhibition allows us to explore the transition of individual memories into shared cultural memory, in this case of WWII. Taken together, the analyses provide a deeper understanding of different facets of the relationship between the home and memory, both individual and collective, and the ways in which art can represent these. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anne%20and%20Patrick%20Poirier" title="Anne and Patrick Poirier">Anne and Patrick Poirier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20memory" title=" cultural memory"> cultural memory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Do%20Ho%20Suh" title=" Do Ho Suh"> Do Ho Suh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=home" title=" home"> home</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=memory%20palace" title=" memory palace"> memory palace</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121241/the-home-as-memory-palace-three-case-studies-of-artistic-representations-of-the-relationship-between-individual-and-collective-memory-and-the-home" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121241.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">159</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">166</span> Valorisation of Polyethylene and Plastic Bottle Wastes as Pavement Blocks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Babagana%20Mohammed">Babagana Mohammed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fidelis%20Patrick%20Afangide"> Fidelis Patrick Afangide</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research investigated the possibility of using waste low-dense polyethylene and waste plastic bottles for the production of interlock pavement blocks. Previous approaches to similar problems center on hand-crafting features to capture domain-specific knowledge. Although intuitive, recent work in deep learning has shown, this approach is prone to missing important predictive features. To circumvent this issue, we present a convolutional neural network (CNN) approach where we initially represent the multiagent behavior as an image. To encode the adversarial nature of basketball, we use a multichannel image which we then feed into a CNN. Additionally, to capture the temporal aspect of the trajectories, we use “fading.” We find that this approach is superior to a traditional FFN model. By using gradient ascent, we were able to discover what the CNN filters look for during training. Last, we find that a combined FFN+CNN is the best performing network with an error rate of 39%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=basketball" title="basketball">basketball</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computer%20vision" title=" computer vision"> computer vision</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20processing" title=" image processing"> image processing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convolutional%20neural%20network" title=" convolutional neural network"> convolutional neural network</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133743/predicting-shot-making-in-basketball-learnt-fromadversarial-multiagent-trajectories" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133743.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">153</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">164</span> Factors Affecting Consumers’ Willingness to Pay for Chicken Meat from Biosecure Farms</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Veronica%20Sri%20Lestari">Veronica Sri Lestari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asmuddin%20Natsir"> Asmuddin Natsir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hasmida%20Karim"> Hasmida Karim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ian%20Patrick"> Ian Patrick</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The research aimed at investigating the factors affecting consumers’ willingness to pay for chicken meat from biosecure farms. The research was conducted in Makassar City, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Samples were taken using random sampling technique in two supermarkets namely Lotte Mart and Gelael. Total samples were 50 respondents which comprised the chicken meat consumers. To find out the consumers’ willingness to pay for chicken meat from the biosecure farms, the contingent valuation method was utilized. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. Probit Logistic was estimated to examine the factors affecting the consumers’ willingness to pay for at the premium price for chicken meat from the biosecure farms. The research indicates that the education and income affect significantly the consumers’ willingness to pay for chicken meat from the biosecure farms (P < 0.05). The results of the study will be beneficial for the policy makers, producers, consumers and those conducting research. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biosecure" title="biosecure">biosecure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chicken" title=" chicken"> chicken</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=farms" title=" farms"> farms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=consumer" title=" consumer"> consumer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=willingness-to-pay" title=" willingness-to-pay"> willingness-to-pay</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48035/factors-affecting-consumers-willingness-to-pay-for-chicken-meat-from-biosecure-farms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48035.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">274</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">163</span> Analysis of the Volatile Organic Compounds of Tillandsia Flowers by HS-SPME/GC-MS</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexandre%20Gonzalez">Alexandre Gonzalez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zohra%20Benfodda"> Zohra Benfodda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20B%C3%A9nim%C3%A9lis"> David Bénimélis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Xavier%20Fontaine"> Jean-Xavier Fontaine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Roland%20Molini%C3%A9"> Roland Molinié</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Meffre"> Patrick Meffre</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by flowers play an important role in plant ecology. However, the Tillandsia genus has been scarcely studied according to the VOCs emitted by flowers. Tillandsia are epiphytic flowering plants belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. The VOCs composition of twelve unscented and two faint-scented Tillandsia species was studied. The headspace solid phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry method was used to explore the chemical diversity of the VOCs. This study allowed the identification of 65 VOCs among the fourteen species, and between six to twenty-five compounds were identified in each of the species. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tillandsia" title="tillandsia">tillandsia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=headspace%20solid%20phase%20microextraction%20%28HS-SPME%29" title=" headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME)"> headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gas%20chromatography-mass%20spectrometry%20%28GC-MS%29" title=" gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)"> gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scentless%20flowers" title=" scentless flowers"> scentless flowers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=volatile%20organic%20compounds%20%28VOCs%29" title=" volatile organic compounds (VOCs)"> volatile organic compounds (VOCs)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PCA%20analysis" title=" PCA analysis"> PCA analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heatmap" title=" heatmap"> heatmap</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152016/analysis-of-the-volatile-organic-compounds-of-tillandsia-flowers-by-hs-spmegc-ms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152016.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">124</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">162</span> Lean Implementation: Manufacturing vs. Construction a Roadmap for Success</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrick%20Ahern">Patrick Ahern</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Collery"> David Collery</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The implementation of lean thinking in the manufacturing industry revolutionized the traditional approach to large-scale production through the process of identifying the waste in each task and putting in place mitigation measures to eliminate the waste in all its forms. The Irish construction industry, however, has been much slower to adopt the principles of lean, opting instead to stick with the traditional approach to construction project delivery which is inherently wasteful. Lean thinking holds the potential to revolutionize the construction industry in a similar manner to the adoption of lean manufacturing. Lean principles present opportunities for reduced project duration, reduced project cost, improved quality, and elimination of re-works and non-value-added activities. The following research has been designed to accumulate research data through available literature, electronic surveys, and interviews. The results show an industry reluctant to accept change and an undefined path to successful lean construction implementation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
