regions that records a large volume of dredged sediment in harbors and waterways. To ensure navigation within ports and waterways, harbor and river managers are forced to find solutions to remove sediment that contamination levels exceed levels established by regulations. Therefore, this non- submersible sediment must be managed on land and will be subject to the waste regulation. In this paper, some examples of concrete achievements and experiments of reusing dredged sediment in civil engineering and sector will be illustrated. These achievements are alternative solutions to sediment landfilling and guarantee the reuse of this material in a logic of circular economy and ecological transition. It permits to preserve the natural resources increasingly scarce and resolve issues related to the accumulation of sediments in the harbor basins, rivers, dams, and lakes, etc. Examples of beneficial use of dredged material illustrated in this paper are the result of different projects reusing harbor and waterways sediments in several applications. These projects were funded under the national SEDIMATERIAUX approach. Thus the technical and environmental feasibility of the reuse of dredged sediment is demonstrated and verified; the dredged sediment reusing would meet multiple challenges of sustainable development in relation to environmental, economic, social and societal. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=circular%20economy" title="circular economy">circular economy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sediment" title=" sediment"> sediment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SEDIMATERIAUX" title=" SEDIMATERIAUX"> SEDIMATERIAUX</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waterways" title=" waterways"> waterways</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77256/formulation-of-aggregates-based-on-dredged-sand-and-sediments" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77256.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Synthesis of a Model Predictive Controller for Artificial Pancreas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20El%20Hachimi">Mohamed El Hachimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelhakim%20Ballouk"> Abdelhakim Ballouk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20%20Khelafa"> Ilyas Khelafa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelaziz%20Mouhou"> Abdelaziz Mouhou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Type 1 diabetes occurs when beta cells are destroyed by the body's own immune system. Treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus could be greatly improved by applying a closed-loop control strategy to insulin delivery, also known as an Artificial Pancreas (AP). Method: In this paper, we present a new formulation of the cost function for a Model Predictive Control (MPC) utilizing a technic which accelerates the speed of control of the AP and tackles the nonlinearity of the control problem via asymmetric objective functions. Finding: The finding of this work consists in a new Model Predictive Control algorithm that leads to good performances like decreasing the time of hyperglycaemia and avoiding hypoglycaemia. Conclusion: These performances are validated under in silico trials. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20pancreas" title="artificial pancreas">artificial pancreas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=control%20algorithm" title=" control algorithm"> control algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomedical%20control" title=" biomedical control"> biomedical control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MPC" title=" MPC"> MPC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=objective%20function" title=" objective function"> objective function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinearity" title=" nonlinearity"> nonlinearity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69505/synthesis-of-a-model-predictive-controller-for-artificial-pancreas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69505.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">307</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25</span> Effect of Anion Variation on the CO2 Capture Performance of Pyridinium Containing Poly(ionic liquid)s </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sonia%20Zulfiqar">Sonia Zulfiqar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniele%20Mantione"> Daniele Mantione</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ilyas%20Sarwar"> Muhammad Ilyas Sarwar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexander%20Rothenberger"> Alexander Rothenberger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Mecerreyes"> David Mecerreyes </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Climate change due to escalating carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere is an issue of paramount importance that needs immediate attention. CO2 capture and sequestration (CCS) is a promising route to mitigate climate change and adsorption is the most widely recognized technology owing to possible energy savings relative to the conventional absorption techniques. In this conference, the potential of a new family of solid sorbents for CO2 capture and separation will be presented. Novel pyridinium containing poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) were synthesized with varying anions i.e bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and hexafluorophosphate. The resulting polymers were characterized using NMR, XRD, TGA, BET surface area and microscopic techniques. Furthermore, CO2 adsorption measurements at two different temperatures were also carried out and revealed great potential of these PILs as CO2 scavengers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate%20change" title="climate change">climate change</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO2%20capture" title=" CO2 capture"> CO2 capture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=poly%28ionic%20liquid%29s" title=" poly(ionic liquid)s"> poly(ionic liquid)s</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO2%2FN2%20selectivity" title=" CO2/N2 selectivity"> CO2/N2 selectivity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40211/effect-of-anion-variation-on-the-co2-capture-performance-of-pyridinium-containing-polyionic-liquids" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40211.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">373</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Position and Speed Tracking of DC Motor Based on Experimental Analysis in LabVIEW</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ilyas">Muhammad Ilyas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Awais%20Khan"> Awais Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syed%20Ali%20Raza%20Shah"> Syed Ali Raza Shah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> DC motors are widely used in industries to provide mechanical power in speed and torque. The position and speed control of DC motors is getting the interest of the scientific community in robotics, especially in the robotic arm, a flexible joint manipulator. The current research work is based on position control of DC motors using experimental investigations in LabVIEW. The linear control strategy is applied to track the position and speed of the DC motor with comparative analysis in the LabVIEW platform and simulation analysis in MATLAB. The tracking error in hardware setup based on LabVIEW programming is slightly greater than simulation analysis in MATLAB due to the inertial load of the motor during steady-state conditions. The controller output shows the input voltage applied to the dc motor varies between 0-8V to ensure minimal steady error while tracking the position and speed of the DC motor. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DC%20motor" title="DC motor">DC motor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=labview" title=" labview"> labview</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=proportional%20integral%20derivative%20control" title=" proportional integral derivative control"> proportional integral derivative control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=position%20tracking" title=" position tracking"> position tracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speed%20tracking" title=" speed tracking"> speed tracking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164256/position-and-speed-tracking-of-dc-motor-based-on-experimental-analysis-in-labview" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164256.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">106</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Circular Bio-economy of Copper and Gold from Electronic Wastes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sadia%20Ilyas">Sadia Ilyas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyunjung%20Kim"> Hyunjung Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rajiv%20R.%20Srivastava"> Rajiv R. Thereafter, based on the potential of microbial approaches and research hypothesis, the structural model has been tested for a significance level of 99%, which is supported by the corresponding standardization co-efficient values. A prediction model applied to determine the recycling impact on circular bio-economy indicates to re-circulate 51,833 tons of copper and 58 tons of gold by 2030 for the production of virgin metals/raw-materials, while recycling rate of the accumulated e-waste remains to be 20%. This restoration volume of copper and gold through the microbial activities corresponds to mitigate 174 million kg CO₂ emissions and 24 million m³ water consumption if compared with the primary production activities. The study potentially opens a new window for environmentally-friendly biotechnological recycling of e-waste urban mine under the umbrella concept of circular bio-economy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20mining" title="urban mining">urban mining</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biobleaching" title=" biobleaching"> biobleaching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=circular%20bio-economy" title=" circular bio-economy"> circular bio-economy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20impact" title=" environmental impact"> environmental impact</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135268/circular-bio-economy-of-copper-and-gold-from-electronic-wastes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135268.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> Prevalence of Neurological Symptoms Associated with COVID 19</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syed%20Hassan%20Tanvir%20Ramzi">Syed Hassan Tanvir Ramzi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ubaidullah%20Ansari"> Ubaidullah Ansari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sana%20Manzoor"> Sana Manzoor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Namal%20Ilyas"> Namal Ilyas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nabeel%20Ahmed"> Nabeel Ahmed</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Objective: To better understand the prevalence of neurological symptoms associated with COVID-19, several factors, such as age, gender, and comorbidity, are explored to create a more holistic understanding of the impact of COVID-19. Methods: After meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria, 111 patients admitted to Ibne Sina Hospital were recruited between October 2021 and February 2022. A descriptive statistical analysis was conducted to summarize patients' most often encountered signs and symptoms concerning the above parameters. Results: Out of 111 patients, a significant proportion of symptoms occurred in patients aged 40-60 years, with Dysgeusia being the most widespread (75.5%), followed by Encephalitis (45.9%), GBS (28.8%), Encephalopathy (18.9%), and Ischemic Stroke (6.3%). These were most prevalent in hypertensive individuals (46%) and Diabetes Mellitus (31%). In asthmatic individuals, they are the least prevalent (10.8%). Conclusion: Despite the predominance of neurological manifestations, the present scientific literature cannot demonstrate a definitive causal association between the symptoms and the virus. This study carefully ensures a link between age, gender, and comorbidity, along with the prevalence of neurological manifestations of COVID-19. For a comprehensive treatment plan, a holistic understanding of symptoms is critical. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID%2019" title="COVID 19">COVID 19</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neurological%20association" title=" neurological association"> neurological association</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GBS" title=" GBS"> GBS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Encephalitis" title=" Encephalitis"> Encephalitis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192972/prevalence-of-neurological-symptoms-associated-with-covid-19" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192972.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">18</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> Securing Healthcare IoT Devices and Enabling SIEM Integration: Addressing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mubarak%20Saadu%20Nabunkari">Mubarak Saadu Nabunkari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullahi%20Abdu%20Ibrahim"> Abdullahi Abdu Ibrahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ilyas"> Muhammad Ilyas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study looks at how Internet of Things (IoT) devices are used in healthcare to monitor and treat patients better. However, using these devices in healthcare comes with security problems. The research explores using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems with healthcare IoT devices to solve these security challenges. Reviewing existing literature shows the current state of IoT security and emphasizes the need for better protection. The main worry is that healthcare IoT devices can be easily hacked, putting patient data and device functionality at risk. To address this, the research suggests a detailed security framework designed for these devices. This framework, based on literature and best practices, includes important security measures like authentication, data encryption, access controls, and anomaly detection. Adding SIEM systems to this framework helps detect threats in real time and respond quickly to incidents, making healthcare IoT devices more secure. The study highlights the importance of this integration and offers guidance for implementing healthcare IoT securely, efficiently, and effectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyber%20security" title="cyber security">cyber security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threat%20intelligence" title=" threat intelligence"> threat intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forensics" title=" forensics"> forensics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heath%20care" title=" heath care"> heath care</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184873/securing-healthcare-iot-devices-and-enabling-siem-integration-addressing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184873.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">66</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> Determination of LS-DYNA MAT162 Material input Parameters for Low Velocity Impact Analysis of Layered Composites</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mustafa%20Albayrak">Mustafa Albayrak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mete%20Onur%20Kaman"> Mete Onur Kaman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Bozkurt"> Ilyas Bozkurt</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, the necessary material parameters were determined to be able to conduct progressive damage analysis of layered composites under low velocity impact by using the MAT162 material module in the LS-DYNA program. The material module MAT162 based on Hashin failure criterion requires 34 parameters in total. Some of these parameters were obtained directly as a result of dynamic and quasi-static mechanical tests, and the remaining part was calibrated and determined by comparing numerical and experimental results. Woven glass/epoxy was used as the composite material and it was produced by vacuum infusion method. In the numerical model, composites are modeled as three-dimensional and layered. As a result, the acquisition of MAT162 material module parameters, which will enable progressive damage analysis, is given in detail and step by step, and the selection methods of the parameters are explained. Numerical data consistent with the experimental results are given in graphics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Composite%20Impact" title="Composite Impact">Composite Impact</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Finite%20Element%20Simulation" title="Finite Element Simulation">Finite Element Simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Progressive%20Damage%20Analyze" title="Progressive Damage Analyze">Progressive Damage Analyze</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LS-DYNA" title="LS-DYNA">LS-DYNA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MAT162" title="MAT162">MAT162</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144609/determination-of-ls-dyna-mat162-material-input-parameters-for-low-velocity-impact-analysis-of-layered-composites" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144609.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">106</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Nature of HR Practices in the Micro Informal Enterprises: Case Study of Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aamar%20Ilyas">Aamar Ilyas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Value of firm does not only depend upon its financial and material resources rather human resource is also a significant contributor in success of organizations by achieving competitive advantage. Human resource is an important asset so it is the main responsibility of employers to get the best use of this resource. Hence, this paper will explore the human resource practices used by entrepreneurs in the informal economy in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, Pakistan. In this study three major sectors are randomly selected. Snowball sampling technique was applied to collect data. Survey was conducted through interviews of 45 respondents working in the informal sector. The results show that informal sector in Pakistan is not using any formal human resource practices as done by formal enterprises. Findings suggest that there should be the implementation of the human resource practices that help the firm to increase its productivity and ensure the betterment of the employees. The main limitation of the study was short time period to cater all sectors of informal economy of Pakistan which limits the extent of its generalizability. The rationale behind this study is to uncover the facts regarding management practices of human capital in the informal sector. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HR%20practices" title="HR practices">HR practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=informal%20economy" title=" informal economy"> informal economy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=working%20condition" title=" working condition"> working condition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recruitment" title=" recruitment"> recruitment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=training" title=" training"> training</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=employee%20motivation" title=" employee motivation"> employee motivation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=welfare" title=" welfare"> welfare</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5208/nature-of-hr-practices-in-the-micro-informal-enterprises-case-study-of-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5208.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">378</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> Zeolite-Enhanced Pyrolysis: Transforming Waste Plastics into Hydrogen</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Said%20Sair">Said Sair</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hanane%20Ait%20Ousaleh"> Hanane Ait Ousaleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Belghazi"> Ilyas Belghazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Othmane%20Amadine"> Othmane Amadine</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Plastic waste has become a major environmental issue, driving the need for innovative solutions to convert it into valuable resources. This study explores the catalytic pyrolysis of plastic waste to produce hydrogen, using zeolite catalysts as a key component in the process. Various zeolites, including types X, A, and P, are synthesized and characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). These techniques are employed to assess the structural and chemical properties of the catalysts. Catalytic pyrolysis experiments are performed under different conditions, including variations in temperature, catalyst loading, and reaction time, to optimize hydrogen production. The results demonstrate that the choice of zeolite catalyst significantly impacts plastic waste conversion efficiency into hydrogen. This research contributes to advancing circular economy principles by providing an effective method for plastic waste management and clean energy production, promoting environmental sustainability. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrogen%20production" title="hydrogen production">hydrogen production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plastic%20waste" title=" plastic waste"> plastic waste</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zeolite%20catalysts" title=" zeolite catalysts"> zeolite catalysts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catalytic%20pyrolysis" title=" catalytic pyrolysis"> catalytic pyrolysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=circular%20economy" title=" circular economy"> circular economy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20energy" title=" sustainable energy"> sustainable energy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192439/zeolite-enhanced-pyrolysis-transforming-waste-plastics-into-hydrogen" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192439.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">19</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">17</span> A Customize Battery Management Approach for Satellite</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Affan">Muhammad Affan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ilyas%20Raza"> Muhammad Ilyas Raza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Harris%20Hashmi"> Muhammad Harris Hashmi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This work is attributed to the battery management unit design of student Satellites under Pakistan National Student Satellite Program (PNSSP). The aim has been to design a customized, low-cost, efficient, reliable and less-complex battery management scheme for the Satellite. Nowadays, Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries have become the de-facto standard for remote applications, especially for satellites. Li-ion cells are selected for secondary storage. The design also addresses Li-ion safety requirements by monitoring, balancing and protecting cells for safe and prolonged operation. Accurate voltage measurement of individual cells was the main challenge because all the actions triggered were based on the digital voltage measurement. For this purpose, a resistive-divider network is used to maintain simplicity and cost-effectiveness. To cater the problem of insufficient i/o pins on microcontroller, fast multiplexers and de-multiplexers were used. The discrepancy inherited in the given design is the dissipation of heat due to the dissipative resistors. However, it is still considered to be the optimum adoption, considering the simple and cost-effective nature of the passive balancing technique. Furthermore, it is a completely unique solution, customized to meet specific requirements. However, there is still an option for a more advanced and expensive design. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=satellite" title="satellite">satellite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=battery%20module" title=" battery module"> battery module</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=passive%20balancing" title=" passive balancing"> passive balancing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dissipative" title=" dissipative"> dissipative</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/157071/a-customize-battery-management-approach-for-satellite" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/157071.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">139</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16</span> Data Collection Techniques for Robotics to Identify the Facial Expressions of Traumatic Brain Injured Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chaudhary%20Muhammad%20Aqdus%20Ilyas">Chaudhary Muhammad Aqdus Ilyas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matthias%20Rehm"> Matthias Rehm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamal%20Nasrollahi"> Kamal Nasrollahi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20B.%20Moeslund"> Thomas B. Rehabilitation after TBI is very crucial due to nature of injury and variation in recovery time. It is advantageous to analyze these emotional signals in a contactless manner, due to the non-supportive behavior of patients, limited muscle movements and increase in negative emotional expressions. This work aims at the development of framework where robots can recognize TBI emotions through facial expressions to perform rehabilitation tasks by physical, cognitive or interactive activities. The result of these studies shows that with customized data collection strategies, proposed framework identify facial and emotional expressions more accurately that can be utilized in enhancing recovery treatment and social interaction in robotic context. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computer%20vision" title="computer vision">computer vision</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convolution%20neural%20network-%20long%20short%20term%20memory%20network%20%28CNN-LSTM%29" title=" convolution neural network- long short term memory network (CNN-LSTM)"> convolution neural network- long short term memory network (CNN-LSTM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=facial%20expression%20and%20mood%20recognition" title=" facial expression and mood recognition"> facial expression and mood recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multimodal%20%28RGB-thermal%29%20analysis" title=" multimodal (RGB-thermal) analysis"> multimodal (RGB-thermal) analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rehabilitation" title=" rehabilitation"> rehabilitation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robots" title=" robots"> robots</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=traumatic%20brain%20injured%20patients" title=" traumatic brain injured patients"> traumatic brain injured patients</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98560/data-collection-techniques-for-robotics-to-identify-the-facial-expressions-of-traumatic-brain-injured-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98560.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">155</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">15</span> Cloning and Expression of Human Interleukin 15: A Promising Candidate for Cytokine Immunotherapy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sadaf%20Ilyas">Sadaf Ilyas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Recombinant cytokines have been employed successfully as potential therapeutic agent. Some cytokine therapies are already used as a part of clinical practice, ranging from early exploratory trials to well established therapies that have already received approval. Interleukin 15 is a pleiotropic cytokine having multiple roles in peripheral innate and adaptive immune cell function. It regulates the activation, proliferation and maturation of NK cells, T-cells, monocytes/macrophages and granulocytes, and the interactions between them thus acting as a bridge between innate and adaptive immune responses. Unraveling the biology of IL-15 has revealed some interesting surprises that may point toward some of the first therapeutic applications for this cytokine. In this study, the human interleukin 15 gene was isolated, amplified and ligated to a TA vector which was then transfected to a bacterial host, E. coli Top10F’. The sequence of cloned gene was confirmed and it showed 100% homology with the reported sequence. The confirmed gene was then subcloned in pET Expression system to study the IPTG induced expression of IL-15 gene. Positive expression was obtained for number of clones that showed 15 kd band of IL-15 in SDS-PAGE analysis, indicating the successful strain development that can be studied further to assess the potential therapeutic intervention of this cytokine in relevance to human diseases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Interleukin%2015" title="Interleukin 15">Interleukin 15</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pET%20expression%20system" title=" pET expression system"> pET expression system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immune%20therapy" title=" immune therapy"> immune therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=protein%20purification" title=" protein purification"> protein purification</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43003/cloning-and-expression-of-human-interleukin-15-a-promising-candidate-for-cytokine-immunotherapy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43003.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">413</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> Effect of Tool Geometry and Welding Parameters on Macrostructure and Weld Strength in Friction Stir Welded of High Density Polyethylene Sheets</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mustafa%20Kemal%20Bilici">Mustafa Kemal Bilici</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Memduh%20Kurtulmu%C5%9F"> Memduh Kurtulmuş</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C4%B0lyas%20Kartal"> İlyas Kartal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmet%20%C4%B0rfan%20Y%C3%BCkler"> Ahmet İrfan Yükler</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Friction stir welding is a solid-state joining process that has gained acceptable progress in recent years. This method which was first used for welding of aluminum and its alloys is now employed for welding of other materials such as polymers and composites. The aim of the present work is to investigate the mechanical properties of butt joints produced by friction stir welding (FSW) in high density polyethylene sheets of 4 mm thickness. The effects of critical welding parameters and tool design have affected on mechanical properties, weld surface and macrostructure of friction stir welded polyethylene. Experiments were performed at tool rotational speeds of 600, 900, 1200 and 1500 r/min and traverse speeds of 30, 45 and 60 mm/min, tool diameters (d) of 4, 5, 6 mm and tool shoulder diameters (D) 20, 25, 30 mm. A strength value of 80 % of the base material was achieved at the isolated optimum welding condition. According to the tool design, the welding parameters and the mechanical properties changed to a great extent. The highest tensile strength was achieved at low feed rates, high tool rotation speeds and shoulder diameters/pin diameters ratio. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=friction%20stir%20welding" title="friction stir welding">friction stir welding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20properties" title=" mechanical properties"> mechanical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyethylene" title=" polyethylene"> polyethylene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20density%20polyethylene" title=" high density polyethylene"> high density polyethylene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tool%20design" title=" tool design"> tool design</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73071/effect-of-tool-geometry-and-welding-parameters-on-macrostructure-and-weld-strength-in-friction-stir-welded-of-high-density-polyethylene-sheets" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73071.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">394</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13</span> Perception of Discrimination Amongst Minorites in Canada Following the Inception of Bill 21</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayman%20Mohammed">Ayman Mohammed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Raffay%20Ilyas"> Abdul Raffay Ilyas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syeda%20Rohma%20Sadia"> Syeda Rohma Sadia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zuha%20Durrani"> Zuha Durrani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fareeha%20Kamal"> Fareeha Kamal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shaheryar%20Syed"> Shaheryar Syed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arshiya%20Shareef"> Arshiya Shareef</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mukarram%20Zaidi"> Mukarram Zaidi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> On June 16, 2019, Coalition Avenir de Québec (CAQ) passed Bill 21, a controversial bill impacting many Canadians. The Bill prohibits workers in the Quebec provincial sector from wearing any form of religious articles. While the Bill claims to treat all religious symbols equally, those with distinctive items of dress such as hijabs, kippahs, and turbans become targets of the discriminatory nature of the Bill. With the rise in xenophobic behaviour across Canada and the West, Think For Actions conducted a study of Bill 21. The study included responses from Indigenous, Muslims, Sikhs and Jewish people residing in Calgary. The focus was on the recent passing of Bill 21, their opinions on the perceived attitudes of intolerance, and the perceptions of common stereotypes. The data collection and analysis happened over 9 weeks. The method of data collection was semi-structured interviews held in focus groups in different religious institutions and cultural/community centres in Calgary. The focus groups generated unanimously negative responses to the Bill. Participants described the Bill as “hateful” and one which “targets minority religions”. The participants had hopes that the Bill would be defeated and Quebec residents would be protected by their basic rights to practice their religion. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bill%2021" title="Bill 21">Bill 21</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Islamophobia" title=" Islamophobia"> Islamophobia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quebec" title=" Quebec"> Quebec</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=minorities" title=" minorities"> minorities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrimination" title=" discrimination"> discrimination</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147191/perception-of-discrimination-amongst-minorites-in-canada-following-the-inception-of-bill-21" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147191.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Screening of the Sunflower Genotypes for Drought Stress at Seedling Stage by Polyethylene Glycol under Laboratory Conditions </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Uzma%20Ayaz">Uzma Ayaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sanam%20Bashir"> Sanam Bashir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shahid%20Iqbal%20Awan"> Shahid Iqbal Awan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ilyas"> Muhammad Ilyas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Fareed%20Khan"> Muhammad Fareed Khan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Drought stress directly affects growth along with the productivity of plants by altering plant water status. Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), an oilseed crop, is adversely affected by abiotic stresses. The present study was carried out to characterize the genetic variability for seedling and morpho-physiological parameters in different sunflower genotypes under water-stressed conditions. A total of twenty-seven genotypes, including two hybrids, eight advanced lines and seventeen accessions of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) were tested against drought stress at Seedling stages by Polyethylene glycol (PEG). Significant means were calculated among traits using analysis of variance (ANOVA) whereas, correlation and principal component analysis also confirmed that germination percentage, root length, shoot length, chlorophyll content, stomatal frequency are positively linked with each other hence, these traits were responsible for most of the variation among genotypes. The cluster analysis results showed that genotypes Ausun, line-3, line-2, and 17578, line-1, line-7, line-6 and 17562 as more diverse among all the genotypes. These most divergent genotypes could be utilized in the development of drought-tolerant inbreed lines which could be subsequently used in future heterosis breeding programs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sunflower" title="sunflower">sunflower</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drought" title=" drought"> drought</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stress" title=" stress"> stress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyethylene-%20glycol" title=" polyethylene- glycol"> polyethylene- glycol</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=screening" title=" screening"> screening</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118011/screening-of-the-sunflower-genotypes-for-drought-stress-at-seedling-stage-by-polyethylene-glycol-under-laboratory-conditions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118011.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">126</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11</span> Peripheral Facial Nerve Palsy after Lip Augmentation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sana%20Ilyas">Sana Ilyas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kishalaya%20Mukherjee"> Kishalaya Mukherjee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Suresh%20Shetty"> Suresh Shetty</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Lip Augmentation has become more common in recent years. Patients do not expect to experience facial palsy after having lip augmentation. This poster will present the findings of such a presentation and will discuss the possible pathophysiology and management. (This poster has been published as a paper in the dental update, June 2022) Aim: The aim of the study was to explore the link between facial nerve palsy and lip fillers, to explore the literature surrounding facial nerve palsy, and to discuss the case of a patient who presented with facial nerve palsy with seemingly unknown cause. Methodology: There was a thorough assessment of the current literature surrounding the topic. This included published papers in journals through PubMed database searches and printed books on the topic. A case presentation was discussed in detail of a patient presenting with peripheral facial nerve palsy and associating it with lip augmentation that she had a day prior. Results and Conclusion: Even though the pathophysiology may not be clear for this presentation, it is important to highlight uncommon presentations or complications that may occur after treatment. This can help with understanding and managing similar cases, should they arise. It is also important to differentiate cause and association in order to make an accurate diagnosis. This may be difficult if there is little scientific literature. Therefore, further research can help to improve the understanding of the pathophysiology of similar presentations. Pseudomonas is a notorious opportunistic pathogen involoved in nosocomial infections and exhibit innate resistance to many antibiotics. The present study was conducted to assess the prevalence, levels of antimicrobial susceptibility and resistance mechanisms of Pseudomonas. A total of thirty clinical strains of Pseudomonas were isolated from different clinical sites of infection. All clinical specimens were collected from Chughtais Lahore Lab. Jail road, during 8-07-2010 to 11-01-2011. Biochemical characterization was done using routine biochemical tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by Kirby-Baeur method. The plasmids were isolated from all the strains and digested with restriction enzyme PstI and EcoRI. Transfer of Multi-resistance plasmid was checked via transformation and conjugation to confirm the plasmid mediated resistance to antibiotics. The prevalence of Pseudomonas in clinical specimens was found out to be 14% of all bacterial infections. IPM has shown to be the most effective drug against Pseudomonas followed by CES, PTB and meropenem, wheareas most of the Pseudomonas strains have developed significant resistance against Penicillins and some Cephalasporins. Antibiotic resistance determinants were carried by plasmids, as they conferred resistance to transformed K1 strains. The isolates readily undergo conjugation, transferring the resistant genes to other strains, illustrating the high rates of cross infection and nosocomial infection in the immunocompromised patients. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pseudomonas" title="pseudomonas">pseudomonas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibiotics" title=" antibiotics"> antibiotics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drug%20resistance" title=" drug resistance"> drug resistance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=horizontal%20gene%20transfer" title=" horizontal gene transfer"> horizontal gene transfer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43006/antibiotic-susceptibility-profile-and-horizontal-gene-transfer-in-pseudomonas-sp-isolated-from-clinical-specimens" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43006.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">345</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> Literature Review of the Management of Parry Romberg Syndrome with Fillers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sana%20Ilyas">Sana Ilyas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Parry-Romberg syndrome is a rare condition clinically defined by slowly progressive atrophy of the skin and soft tissues. This usually effects one side of the face, although a few cases have been documented of bilateral presentation. It is more prevalent in females and usually affects the left side of the face. The syndrome can also be accompanied by neurological abnormalities. It usually occurs in the first two decades of life with a variable rate of progression. The aetiology is unknown, and the disease eventually stabilises. The treatment options usually involve surgical management. The least invasive of these options is the management of facial asymmetry, associated with Parry Romberg syndrome, through the use of tissue fillers. This paper will review the existing literature on the management of Parry Romberg syndrome with tissue filler. Aim: The aim of the study is to explore the current published literature for the management of Parry Romberg syndrome with fillers. It is to assess the development that has been made in this method of management, its benefits and limitations, and its effectiveness for the management of Parry Romberg syndrome. Methodology: There was a thorough assessment of the current literature published on this topic. PubMed database was used for search of the published literature on this method of the management. Papers were analysed and compared with one another to assess the success and limitation of the management of Parry Romberg with dermal fillers Results and Conclusion: Case reports of the use of tissue fillers discuss the varying degrees of success with the treatment. However, this procedure has it’s limitation, which are discussed in the paper in detail. However, it is still the least invasive of all the surgical options for the management of Parry Romberg Syndrome, and therefore, it is important to explore this option with patients, as they may be more comfortable with pursuingtreatment that is less invasive and can still improve their facial asymmetry <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dermal%20fillers" title="dermal fillers">dermal fillers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=facial%20asymmetry" title=" facial asymmetry"> facial asymmetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parry%20romberg%20syndrome" title=" parry romberg syndrome"> parry romberg syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tissue%20fillers" title=" tissue fillers"> tissue fillers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158432/literature-review-of-the-management-of-parry-romberg-syndrome-with-fillers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/158432.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">87</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Investigation of Electrospun Composites Nanofiber of Poly (Lactic Acid)/Hazelnut Shell Powder/Zinc Oxide</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ibrahim%20Sengor">Ibrahim Sengor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sumeyye%20Cesur"> Sumeyye Cesur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Kartal"> Ilyas Kartal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faik%20Nuzhet%20Oktar"> Faik Nuzhet Oktar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nazmi%20Ekren"> Nazmi Ekren</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmet%20Talat%20Inan"> Ahmet Talat Inan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oguzhan%20Gunduz"> Oguzhan Gunduz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In recent years, many researchers focused on nano-size fiber production. Nanofibers have been studied due to their different and superior physical, chemical and mechanical properties. Poly (lactic acid) (PLA), is a type of biodegradable thermoplastic polyester derived from renewable sources used in biomedical owing to its biocompatibility and biodegradability. In addition, zinc oxide is an antibacterial material and hazelnut shell powder is a filling material. In this study, nanofibers were obtained by adding of different ratio Zinc oxide, (ZnO) and hazelnut shell powder at different concentration into Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) by using electrospinning method which is the most common method to obtain nanofibers. After dissolving the granulated polylactic acids in % 1,% 2,% 3 and% 4 with chloroform solvent, they are homogenized by adding tween and hazelnut shell powder at different ratios and then by electrospinning, nanofibers are obtained. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and physical analysis such as density, electrical conductivity, surface tension, viscosity measurement and antimicrobial test were carried out after production process. The resulting structures of the nanofiber possess antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, which are attractive for biomedical applications. There is often not enough water to meet all demands for different uses. Thus, decisions have to be made as to how the available resources can be managed and utilized. Correspondingly water allocation goals, practically national water policy goals, need to be revised accordingly as the pressure on water increases from time to time. A case study is conducted in the Upper Awash Basin, Ethiopia, to assess and evaluate prioritized comprehensive water demand management options based on the framework of integrated water resources management in account of stakeholders’ knowledge and preferences as well as practical prominence within the Upper Awash Basin. Two categories of alternative management options based on policy analysis and stakeholders' consultation were evaluated against the business-as-usual scenario by using WEAP21 model as an analytical tool. Strong effects on future (unmet) demands are observed with major socio-economic assumptions and forthcoming water development plans. Water management within the basin will get more complex with further abstraction which may lead to an irreversible damage to the ecosystem. It is further confirmed through this particular study that efforts to maintain users’ preferences alone cannot insure economically viable and environmentally sound development and vice versa. There is always a tradeoff between these factors. Hence, all of these facets must be analyzed separately, related with each other in equal footing, and ultimately taken up in decision making in order for the whole system to function properly. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20demand" title="water demand">water demand</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20availability" title=" water availability"> water availability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WEAP21" title=" WEAP21"> WEAP21</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scenarios" title=" scenarios"> scenarios</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61918/evaluating-the-impact-of-future-scenarios-on-water-availability-and-demand-based-on-stakeholders-prioritized-water-management-options-in-the-upper-awash-basin-ethiopia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61918.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">281</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Its Impact on the All-Cause Mortality of UK Women: A Matched Cohort Study 1984-2017</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurunnahar%20Akter">Nurunnahar Akter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20Kulinskaya"> Elena Kulinskaya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicholas%20Steel"> Nicholas Steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Bakbergenuly"> Ilyas Bakbergenuly</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Although Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is an effective treatment in ameliorating menopausal symptoms, it has mixed effects on different health outcomes, increasing, for instance, the risk of breast cancer. Because of this, many symptomatic women are left untreated. Untreated menopausal symptoms may result in other health issues, which eventually put an extra burden and costs to the health care system. All-cause mortality analysis may explain the net benefits and risks of the HRT therapy. However, it received far less attention in HRT studies. This study investigated the impact of HRT on all-cause mortality using electronically recorded primary care data from The Health Improvement Network (THIN) that broadly represents the female population in the United Kingdom (UK). The study entry date for this study was the record of the first HRT prescription from 1984, and patients were followed up until death or transfer to another GP practice or study end date, which was January 2017. 112,354 HRT users (cases) were matched with 245,320 non-users by age at HRT initiation and general practice (GP). The hazards of all-cause mortality associated with HRT were estimated by a parametric Weibull-Cox model adjusting for a wide range of important medical, lifestyle, and socio-demographic factors. The multilevel multiple imputation techniques were used to deal with missing data. This study found that during 32 years of follow-up, combined HRT reduced the hazard ratio (HR) of all-cause mortality by 9% (HR: 0.91; 95% Confidence Interval, 0.88-0.94) in women of age between 46 to 65 at first treatment compared to the non-users of the same age. Age-specific mortality analyses found that combined HRT decreased mortality by 13% (HR: 0.87; 95% CI, 0.82-0.92), 12% (HR: 0.88; 95% CI, 0.82-0.93), and 8% (HR: 0.92; 95% CI, 0.85-0.98), in 51 to 55, 56 to 60, and 61 to 65 age group at first treatment, respectively. There was no association between estrogen-only HRT and women’s all-cause mortality. The findings from this study may help to inform the choices of women at menopause and to further educate the clinicians and resource planners. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hormone%20replacement%20therapy" title="hormone replacement therapy">hormone replacement therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiple%20imputations" title=" multiple imputations"> multiple imputations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=primary%20care%20data" title=" primary care data"> primary care data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=the%20health%20improvement%20network%20%28THIN%29" title=" the health improvement network (THIN)"> the health improvement network (THIN)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137151/hormone-replacement-therapy-hrt-and-its-impact-on-the-all-cause-mortality-of-uk-women-a-matched-cohort-study-1984-2017" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137151.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">170</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Harmonization of Accreditation Standards in Education of Central Asian Countries: Theoretical Aspect</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yskak%20Nabi">Yskak Nabi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Onolkan%20Umankulova"> Onolkan Umankulova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Seitov"> Ilyas Seitov</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Tempus project about “Central Asian network for quality assurance – CANQA” had been implemented in 2009-2012. As the result of the project, two accreditation agencies were established: the agency for quality assurance in the field of education, “EdNet” in Kyrgyzstan, center of progressive technologies in Tajikistan. The importance of the research studies of the project is supported by the idea that the creation of Central-Asian network for quality assurance in education is still relevant, and results of the International forum “Global in regional: Kazakhstan in Bologna process and EU projects,” that was held in Nur-Sultan in October 2020, proves this. At the same time, the previous experience of the partnership between accreditation agencies of Central Asia shows that recommendations elaborated within the CANQA project were not theoretically justified. But there are a number of facts and arguments that prove the practical appliance of these recommendations. In this respect, joint activities of accreditation agencies of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are representative. For example, independent Kazakh agency of accreditation and rating successfully conducts accreditation of Kyrgyz universities; based on the memorandum about joint activity between the agency for quality assurance in the field of education “EdNet” (Kyrgyzstan) and Astana accreditation agency (Kazakhstan), the last one provides its experts for accreditation procedures in EdNet. Exchange of experience among the agencies shows an effective approach towards adaptation of European standards to the reality of education systems of Central Asia with consideration of not only a legal framework but also from the point of European practices view. Therefore, the relevance of the research is identified as there is a practical partnership between accreditation agencies of Central Asian countries, but the absence of theoretical justification of integrational processes in the accreditation field. As a result, the following hypothesis was put forward: “if to develop theoretical aspects for harmonization of accreditation standards, then integrational processes would be improved since the implementation of Bologna process principles would be supported with wider possibilities, and particularly, students and academic mobility would be improved.” Indeed, for example, in Kazakhstan, the total share of foreign students was 5,04% in 2020, and most of them are coming from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, and if integrational processes will be improved, then this share can increase. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accreditation%20standards%20in%20education" title="accreditation standards in education">accreditation standards in education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Central%20Asian%20countries" title=" Central Asian countries"> Central Asian countries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedagogical%20theory" title=" pedagogical theory"> pedagogical theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=model" title=" model"> model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138535/harmonization-of-accreditation-standards-in-education-of-central-asian-countries-theoretical-aspect" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138535.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">199</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Long Term Survival after a First Transient Ischemic Attack in England: A Case-Control Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Padma%20Chutoo">Padma Chutoo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20Kulinskaya"> Elena Kulinskaya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Bakbergenuly"> Ilyas Bakbergenuly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicholas%20Steel"> Nicholas Steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dmitri%20Pchejetski"> Dmitri Pchejetski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs) are warning signs for future strokes. TIA patients are at increased risk of stroke and cardio-vascular events after a first episode. A majority of studies on TIA focused on the occurrence of these ancillary events after a TIA. Long-term mortality after TIA received only limited attention. We undertook this study to determine the long-term hazards of all-cause mortality following a first episode of a TIA using anonymised electronic health records (EHRs). We used a retrospective case-control study using electronic primary health care records from The Health Improvement Network (THIN) database. Patients born prior to or in year 1960, resident in England, with a first diagnosis of TIA between January 1986 and January 2017 were matched to three controls on age, sex and general medical practice. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. The hazards of all-cause mortality were estimated using a time-varying Weibull-Cox survival model which included both scale and shape effects and a random frailty effect of GP practice. 20,633 cases and 58,634 controls were included. Cases aged 39 to 60 years at the first TIA event had the highest hazard ratio (HR) of mortality compared to matched controls (HR = 3.04, 95% CI (2.91 - 3.18)). The HRs for cases aged 61-70 years, 71-76 years and 77+ years were 1.98 (1.55 - 2.30), 1.79 (1.20 - 2.07) and 1.52 (1.15 - 1.97) compared to matched controls. Aspirin provided long-term survival benefits to cases. Cases aged 39-60 years on aspirin had HR of 0.93 (0.84 - 1.00), 0.90 (0.82 - 0.98) and 0.88 (0.80 - 0.96) at 5 years, 10 years and 15 years, respectively, compared to cases in the same age group who were not on antiplatelets. Similar beneficial effects of aspirin were observed in other age groups. There were no significant survival benefits with other antiplatelet options. No survival benefits of antiplatelet drugs were observed in controls. Our study highlights the excess long-term risk of death of TIA patients and cautions that TIA should not be treated as a benign condition. The study further recommends aspirin as the better option for secondary prevention for TIA patients compared to clopidogrel recommended by NICE guidelines. Management of risk factors and treatment strategies should be important challenges to reduce the burden of disease. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual%20antiplatelet%20therapy%20%28DAPT%29" title="dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT)">dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=General%20Practice" title=" General Practice"> General Practice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Multiple%20Imputation" title=" Multiple Imputation"> Multiple Imputation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=The%20Health%20Improvement%20Network%28THIN%29" title=" The Health Improvement Network(THIN)"> The Health Improvement Network(THIN)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hazard%20ratio%20%28HR%29" title=" hazard ratio (HR)"> hazard ratio (HR)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Weibull-Cox%20model" title=" Weibull-Cox model"> Weibull-Cox model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136987/long-term-survival-after-a-first-transient-ischemic-attack-in-england-a-case-control-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136987.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">149</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> The Current Home Hemodialysis Practices and Patients’ Safety Related Factors: A Case Study from Germany</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Khan.%20Liliane%20Pintelon">Ilyas Khan. For instance, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common disease and in Europe, the cost of renal replacement therapy (RRT) is very significant to the total health care cost. However, the recent advancement in healthcare technology, provide the opportunity to treat patients at home in their own comfort. It is evident that home healthcare offers numerous advantages apparently, low costs and high patients’ quality of life. Despite these advantages, the intake of home hemodialysis (HHD) therapy is still low in particular in Germany. Many factors are accounted for the low number of HHD intake. However, this paper is focusing on patients’ safety-related factors of current HHD practices in Germany. The aim of this paper is to analyze the current HHD practices in Germany and to identify risks related factors if any exist. A case study has been conducted in a dialysis center which consists of four dialysis centers in the south of Germany. In total, these dialysis centers have 350 chronic dialysis patients, of which, four patients are on HHD. The centers have 126 staff which includes six nephrologists and 120 other staff i.e. nurses and administration. The results of the study revealed several risk-related factors. Most importantly, these centers do not offer allied health services at the pre-dialysis stage, the HHD training did not have an established curriculum; however, they have just recently developed the first version. Only a soft copy of the machine manual is offered to patients. Surprisingly, the management was not aware of any standard available for home assessment and installation. The home assessment is done by a third party (i.e. the machines and equipment provider) and they may not consider the hygienic quality of the patient’s home. The type of machine provided to patients at home is similar to the one in the center. The model may not be suitable at home because of its size and complexity. Even though portable hemodialysis machines, which are specially designed for home use, are available in the market such as the NxStage series. Besides the type of machine, no assistance is offered for space management at home in particular for placing the machine. Moreover, the centers do not offer remote assistance to patients and their carer at home. However, telephonic assistance is available. Furthermore, no alternative is offered if a carer is not available. In addition, the centers are lacking medical staff including nephrologists and renal nurses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=home%20hemodialysis" title="home hemodialysis">home hemodialysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=home%20hemodialysis%20practices" title=" home hemodialysis practices"> home hemodialysis practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patients%E2%80%99%20related%20risks%20in%20the%20current%20home%20hemodialysis%20practices" title=" patients’ related risks in the current home hemodialysis practices"> patients’ related risks in the current home hemodialysis practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patient%20safety%20in%20home%20hemodialysis" title=" patient safety in home hemodialysis"> patient safety in home hemodialysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100350/the-current-home-hemodialysis-practices-and-patients-safety-related-factors-a-case-study-from-germany" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100350.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">119</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Survival Analysis after a First Ischaemic Stroke Event: A Case-Control Study in the Adult Population of England.</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Padma%20Chutoo">Padma Chutoo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20%20Kulinskaya"> Elena Kulinskaya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Bakbergenuly"> Ilyas Bakbergenuly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicholas%20Steel"> Nicholas Steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dmitri%20Pchejetski"> Dmitri Pchejetski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Stroke is associated with a significant risk of morbidity and mortality. There is scarcity of research on the long-term survival after first-ever ischaemic stroke (IS) events in England with regards to effects of different medical therapies and comorbidities. The objective of this study was to model the all-cause mortality after an IS diagnosis in the adult population of England. Using a retrospective case-control design, we extracted the electronic medical records of patients born prior to or in year 1960 in England with a first-ever ischaemic stroke diagnosis from January 1986 to January 2017 within the Health and Improvement Network (THIN) database. Participants with a history of ischaemic stroke were matched to 3 controls by sex and age at diagnosis and general practice. The primary outcome was the all-cause mortality. The hazards of the all-cause mortality were estimated using a Weibull-Cox survival model which included both scale and shape effects and a shared random effect of general practice. The model included sex, birth cohort, socio-economic status, comorbidities and medical therapies. 20,250 patients with a history of IS (cases) and 55,519 controls were followed up to 30 years. From 2008 to 2015, the one-year all-cause mortality for the IS patients declined with an absolute change of -0.5%. Preventive treatments to cases increased considerably over time. These included prescriptions of statins and antihypertensives. However, prescriptions for antiplatelet drugs decreased in the routine general practice since 2010. The survival model revealed a survival benefit of antiplatelet treatment to stroke survivors with hazard ratio (HR) of 0.92 (0.90 – 0.94). IS diagnosis had significant interactions with gender and age at entry and hypertension diagnosis. IS diagnosis was associated with high risk of all-cause mortality with HR= 3.39 (3.05-3.72) for cases compared to controls. Hypertension was associated with poor survival with HR = 4.79 (4.49 - 5.09) for hypertensive cases relative to non-hypertensive controls, though the detrimental effect of hypertension has not reached significance for hypertensive controls, HR = 1.19(0.82-1.56). This study of English primary care data showed that between 2008 and 2015, the rates of prescriptions of stroke preventive treatments increased, and a short-term all-cause mortality after IS stroke declined. However, stroke resulted in poor long-term survival. Hypertension, a modifiable risk factor, was found to be associated with poor survival outcomes in IS patients. Antiplatelet drugs were found to be protective to survival. Better efforts are required to reduce the burden of stroke through health service development and primary prevention. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=general%20practice" title="general practice">general practice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hazard%20ratio" title=" hazard ratio"> hazard ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20improvement%20network%20%28THIN%29" title=" health improvement network (THIN)"> health improvement network (THIN)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ischaemic%20stroke" title=" ischaemic stroke"> ischaemic stroke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiple%20imputation" title=" multiple imputation"> multiple imputation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Weibull-Cox%20model." title=" Weibull-Cox model."> Weibull-Cox model.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136984/survival-analysis-after-a-first-ischaemic-stroke-event-a-case-control-study-in-the-adult-population-of-england" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136984.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">186</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Evaluation of the Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion Thermal Effects in Hassi R'Mel Gas Processing Plant Using Fire Dynamics Simulator</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brady%20Manescau">Brady Manescau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilyas%20Sellami"> Ilyas Sellami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20Chetehouna"> Khaled Chetehouna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Charles%20De%20Izarra"> Charles De Izarra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rachid%20Nait-Said"> Rachid Nait-Said</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fati%20Zidani"> Fati Zidani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> During a fire in an oil and gas refinery, several thermal accidents can occur and cause serious damage to people and environment. Among these accidents, the BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) is most observed and remains a major concern for risk decision-makers. It corresponds to a violent vaporization of explosive nature following the rupture of a vessel containing a liquid at a temperature significantly higher than its normal boiling point at atmospheric pressure. Their effects on the environment generally appear in three ways: blast overpressure, radiation from the fireball if the liquid involved is flammable and fragment hazards. In order to estimate the potential damage that would be caused by such an explosion, risk decision-makers often use quantitative risk analysis (QRA). This analysis is a rigorous and advanced approach that requires a reliable data in order to obtain a good estimate and control of risks. However, in most cases, the data used in QRA are obtained from the empirical correlations. These empirical correlations generally overestimate BLEVE effects because they are based on simplifications and do not take into account real parameters like the geometry effect. Considering that these risk analyses are based on an assessment of BLEVE effects on human life and plant equipment, more precise and reliable data should be provided. From this point of view, the CFD modeling of BLEVE effects appears as a solution to the empirical law limitations. In this context, the main objective is to develop a numerical tool in order to predict BLEVE thermal effects using the CFD code FDS version 6. Simulations are carried out with a mesh size of 1 m. The fireball source is modeled as a vertical release of hot fuel in a short time. The modeling of fireball dynamics is based on a single step combustion using an EDC model coupled with the default LES turbulence model. Fireball characteristics (diameter, height, heat flux and lifetime) issued from the large scale BAM experiment are used to demonstrate the ability of FDS to simulate the various steps of the BLEVE phenomenon from ignition up to total burnout. The influence of release parameters such as the injection rate and the radiative fraction on the fireball heat flux is also presented. Predictions are very encouraging and show good agreement in comparison with BAM experiment data. In addition, a numerical study is carried out on an operational propane accumulator in an Algerian gas processing plant of SONATRACH company located in the Hassi R’Mel Gas Field (the largest gas field in Algeria). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BLEVE%20effects" title="BLEVE effects">BLEVE effects</a>, <a
