The author attempts to show the metamorphosis of the protagonist by relating her experiences to the developmental model of cultural sensitivity, as proposed by M.J. Bennett. It is argued that the protagonist assumes the role of the Other in relation to her husband in the same way that indigenous people appear as the Other in relation to the protagonist. The model for ICC assessment, as it was developed for the purpose of the author&#39;s unpublished PhD dissertation, is presented in this paper. The model includes various types of tests that can be incorporated into ICC evaluation. Wydzielony tymi ramami chronologicz nymi zbiór liczy ponad 100 znaków impresorskich, a zatem na tyle dużo, by potrzeb ne, a wręcz konieczne, było jego uporządkowanie. Metodą, która pozwala uczynić to możliwie najprzejrzyściej, jest wyodrębnienie w ra mach przedmiotu badań poszczególnych typów, co odbywa się na podstawie odpo wiednio dobranych kryteriów. Odpowiednio, czyli tak, by uwzględniały każdy aspekt badanej materii i pozwalały na ukazanie jej w sposób jak najpełniejszy. W przypadku sygnetów drukarskich kryteria te muszą mieć nade wszystko na względzie fakt, że godła impresorskie są nie tylko elementami typograficznymi, ale i graficznymi, co powoduje, że rozpatrywać je należy w świetle zarówno typografii (czy szerzej biblio logii), jak i sztuki graficznej. Two years ago a new MA level programme in Interpreting and Translation was created at the School of Languages and International Studies, University of Central Lancashire in Preston, UK. At the beginning of the third year of teaching on the programme, the author attempts to analyse the course design to find out if the course can be tailored to meet an individual student&quot;s needs while at the same time ensuring that the students are taught all the key modules. All the modules that are directly relevant to practising interpreting skills are presented and carefully analysed. The author is also interested in the process of intercultural communication between students from the respective language streams on the course (so far, in alphabetical order, Arabic, Chinese, French, German and Polish) and the influence it could have on the students&quot; co-operation within the course. Another important background question is related to the impact customisation in the course design could potentially have on the alumni&quot;s employability and in what way the programme actually prepares students for their future professional lives. It is less certain if these differences are relevant <br />for talk participants in handling communication problems <br />in intercultural interactions. The aim of the case study <br />presented in this paper is observing if talk participants <br />orient to intercultural differences in discourse patterns and <br />what knowledge of these differences they have. I use <br />ethnomethodological approach in analyzing the <br />interaction of Polish students with their Chinese <br />interlocutor. The interactions is an interview conducted in <br />English as a lingua franca. I also conduct an ethnographic <br />interviewwith the Polish speakers to study their knowledge <br />concerning communication problems which appeared in <br />their interactions with the Chinese speaker.
