This research uses qualitative research methods with instrumental case study approach, and we use data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews and documentation. The results show that the different political backgrounds of the candidates actually create cross-cutting affiliations between Muhammadiyah and NU Muslim society in Kediri City to provide support for Abu and Lilik in the Kediri City regional election. This cross-cutting affiliation is not created naturally, but is determined by ‘Wong Tebangan’ as King Maker. Political lobbying by a ‘Gus’ attracted support from several NU kyai in Kediri City. The shift from social group concentration to the world of electoral politics gives a new nuance for us to understand the existence of ethnic groups in the life of democracy at the local level which in some cases leads to ethnic conflict in the elections. This study aims to explore the pattern of harmony communication relationships between ethnic groups supporting contestants in the election of regional heads in the city of Medan in 2015. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive method of case study type. The object of research conducted on two ethnic groups in the city of Medan in the community of the Chinese Tionghoa Indonesia (Paguyuban Suku Tionghoa Indonesia/PASTI) and Joko Tingkir community (Paguyuban Joko Tingkir). Since 1999, Indonesia has been electing for representative council (DPR RI) and regional representation so called DPD RI in very direct way. This paper aims to analyse the local politics especially at the case of DPD's election in Yogyakarta special region of Indonesia in the competition process among the different group interests which are Islamic group (Muhammadiyah, NU, PKS), Kraton /aristocrat interest, and nationalist group interest (PDI-P). Those groups are the big four that have been playing important role in the competition in DPD election sequentially in 2004, 2009, and 2014. In Yogyakarta special region, four members of DPD since the first election has been represented by three Islamic group both modern and traditional ones and by Yogyakarta palace. this paper more focus on the 2014 election which were followed by more competitor from Pakualaman palace, and also from nationalist group that have same mass with the Palace. this competition was really interesting to explain, how people decide their representative members and how different group compete each other in this election. Also, what strategy and by manner they collect voters in this individual based-individual candidate election. From the field research, it can be concluded at least there are three point (1) each candidate was strongly endorsed by established organization and community to support for the election since 2004. This can be seen in the distribution of political aspirations to fight for leaders who want to uphold Islamic values and struggles, in addition to considering the existence of Islamic political parties as the aspirations of Islamic struggle organizations. In this context the role of community organizations is very visible. Some even consider this as part of the identity politics of Muslims. This study uses qualitative research methods with a literary and contextual approach. Under what conditions will Islamists moderate to support democracy and pluralism? Under what conditions will they adopt more exclusive behavior? Taking a fresh approach, we focus on electoral competition and the conditions under which Islamic party candidates campaign using either inclusive nationalist appeals or exclusively Islamic appeals. Using a unique data source, we coded the appeals contained on the campaign posters of 572 Islamic party candidates in Indonesia. We found that demographics, urban-rural differences, and the level of government office (i.e., national or regional) affected the inclusive or exclusive nature of campaigns. We also highlight differences in appeals made by candidates from Muslim democratic and Islamist parties. Another point is how are the implications toward their defeat to society's economic and political condition. This qualitative study looked for the data by observation from preparation-activity to the day of Regent election and by indepth interviews to the members of Islam affiliated parties, the members of the campaign team, the executive candidates, and the voters. The data was analyzed by economic anthropology theory. The result shows that the executive candidate from Islam-affiliated parties was unpredictably unelected even though their party won in that certain district where on prevoting survey and mapping they would win. This is mainly because of the work-culture commodification in which the district-level party's leader was negotiated with other parties. The reasons for this kind of commodification are because of: (1) The future candidate which is family member of the districtlevel party's leader (mentioned as putra pangeran) was not supported by the chairman; (2) Economic-business interest for the future of their family; and (3) Money politics which they gave more money to the voters than to their political opposition' party. The implication is the Islam-affiliated party did not give full support for their executive candidates to be elected.
