But Jesus<MG2424> stooped<MG2955> down<MG2736> and with His finger<MG1147> wrote<MG2608b> on the ground<MG1093>. <a href="/john/8-7.htm">7</a>When<MG5613> they persisted<MG1961> in asking<MG2065> Him, He straightened<MG352b> up<MG352b> and said<MG3004> to them, “He who is without<MG361> sin<MG361> among you, let him be the first<MG4413> to throw<MG906> a stone<MG3037> at her.” <a href="/john/8-8.htm">8</a>And again<MG3825> He stooped<MG2634a> down<MG2634a> and wrote<MG1125> on the ground<MG1093>. <a href="/john/8-9.htm">9</a>Now<MG1161> when they heard<MG191> this, they began leaving<MG1831>, one<MG1520> by one<MG1520>, beginning<MG757> with the older<MG4245> ones<MG4245>, and He was left<MG2641> alone<MG3441>, and the woman<MG1135> where she was, in the center<MG3319> of the courtyard. <a href="/john/8-10.htm">10</a>And straightening<MG352b> up<MG352b>, Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to her, “Woman<MG1135>, where<MG4226> are they? Did no<MG3762> one<MG3762> condemn<MG2632> you?” <a href="/john/8-11.htm">11</a>She said<MG3004>, “No<MG3762> one<MG3762>, <a href="#fn">[a]</a>Lord<MG2962>.” And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004>, “I do not condemn<MG2632> you, either<MG3761>. Go<MG4198>. From now<MG3568> on do not sin<MG264> any<MG3371> longer<MG3371>.”]] Jesus Is the Light of the World<a href="/john/8-12.htm">12</a>Then<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424> again<MG3825> spoke<MG2980> to them, saying<MG3004>, “I am<MG1510> the Light<MG5457> of the world<MG2889>; the one who follows<MG190> Me will not walk<MG4043> in the darkness<MG4653>, but will have<MG2192> the Light<MG5457> of life<MG2222>.” <a href="/john/8-13.htm">13</a>So<MG3767> the Pharisees<MG5330> said<MG3004> to Him, “You are testifying<MG3140> about<MG4012> Yourself<MG4572>; Your testimony<MG3141> is not <a href="#fn">[b]</a>true<MG227>.” <a href="/john/8-14.htm">14</a>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to them, “Even<MG2579> if<MG2579> I am testifying<MG3140> about<MG4012> Myself<MG1683>, My testimony<MG3141> is <a href="#fn">[c]</a>true<MG227>, because<MG3754> I know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> I came<MG2064> from and where<MG4226> I am going<MG5217>; but you do not know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> I come<MG2064> from or<MG2228> where<MG4226> I am going<MG5217>. <a href="/john/8-15.htm">15</a>You judge<MG2919> <a href="#fn">[d]</a>according<MG2596> to the flesh<MG4561>; I am not judging<MG2919> anyone<MG3762>. <a href="/john/8-16.htm">16</a>But even<MG2532> if<MG1437> I do judge<MG2919>, My judgment<MG2920> is true<MG228>; for I am<MG1510> not alone<MG3441> in it, but I and the Father who sent<MG3992> Me. <a href="/john/8-17.htm">17</a>Even<MG2532> in your Law<MG3551> it has been written<MG1125> that the testimony<MG3141> of two<MG1417> people<MG444> is <a href="#fn">[e]</a>true<MG227>. <a href="/john/8-18.htm">18</a>I am<MG1510> He who testifies<MG3140> about<MG4012> Myself<MG1683>, and the Father<MG3962> who sent<MG3992> Me testifies<MG3140> about<MG4012> Me.” <a href="/john/8-19.htm">19</a>So<MG3767> they were saying<MG3004> to Him, “Where<MG4226> is Your Father<MG3962>?” Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611>, “You know<MG3609a> neither<MG3777> Me nor<MG3777> My Father<MG3962>; if<MG1487> you knew<MG3609a> Me, you would know<MG3609a> My Father<MG3962> also<MG2532>.” <a href="/john/8-20.htm">20</a>These<MG3778> words<MG4487> He spoke<MG2980> <a href="#fn">[f]</a>in the treasury<MG1049>, as He taught<MG1321> in the temple<MG2413> area; and no<MG3762> one<MG3762> arrested<MG4084> Him, because<MG3754> His hour<MG5610> had not yet<MG3768> come<MG2064>. <a href="/john/8-21.htm">21</a>Then<MG3767> He said<MG3004> again<MG3825> to them, “I am going<MG5217> away<MG5217>, and you will look<MG2212> for<MG2212> Me, and will die<MG599> in your sin<MG266>; where<MG3699> I am going<MG5217>, you cannot<MG1410, 3756> come<MG2064>.” <a href="/john/8-22.htm">22</a>So<MG3767> the Jews<MG2453> were saying<MG3004>, “Surely<MG3385> He will not kill<MG615> Himself<MG1438>, will He, since<MG3754> He says<MG3004>, ‘Where<MG3699> I am going<MG5217>, you cannot<MG1410, 3756> come<MG2064>’?” <a href="/john/8-23.htm">23</a>And He was saying<MG3004> to them, “You are from below<MG2736>, I am<MG1510> from above<MG507>; you are of this<MG3778> world<MG2889>, I am<MG1510> not of this<MG3778> world<MG2889>. <a href="/john/8-24.htm">24</a>Therefore<MG3767> I said<MG3004> to you that you will die<MG599> in your sins<MG266>; for unless<MG1437, 3361> you believe<MG4100> that <a href="#fn">[g]</a>I am<MG1510>, you will die<MG599> in your sins<MG266>.” <a href="/john/8-25.htm">25</a>Then<MG3767> they were saying<MG3004> to Him, “Who<MG5101> are You?” Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “<a href="#fn">[h]</a>What<MG3739, 5101> have I even<MG2532> been saying<MG2980> to you from the beginning<MG746>? <a href="/john/8-26.htm">26</a>I have<MG2192> many<MG4183> things<MG4183> to say<MG2980> and to judge<MG2919> regarding<MG4012> you, but He who sent<MG3992> Me is true<MG227>; and the things which<MG3739> I heard<MG191> from Him, these<MG3778> I say<MG2980> to the world<MG2889>.” <a href="/john/8-27.htm">27</a>They did not realize<MG1097> that He was speaking<MG3004> to them about the Father<MG3962>. <a href="/john/8-28.htm">28</a>So<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004>, “When<MG3752> you lift<MG5312> up<MG5312> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444>, then<MG5119> you will know<MG1097> that <a href="#fn">[i]</a>I am<MG1510>, and I do<MG4160> nothing<MG3762> <a href="#fn">[j]</a>on My own<MG1683>, but I say<MG2980> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> as the Father<MG3962> instructed<MG1321> Me. <a href="/john/8-29.htm">29</a>And He who sent<MG3992> Me is with Me; He <a href="#fn">[k]</a>has not left<MG863> Me alone<MG3441>, for I always<MG3842> do<MG4160> the things<MG701> that<MG701> are<MG701> pleasing<MG701> to Him.” <a href="/john/8-30.htm">30</a>As He said<MG2980> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, many<MG4183> came to believe<MG4100> in Him. The Truth Will Set You Free<a href="/john/8-31.htm">31</a>So<MG3767> Jesus<MG2424> was saying<MG3004> to those<MG3588> Jews<MG2453> who had believed<MG4100> Him, “If<MG1437> you continue<MG3306> in My word<MG3056>, then you are truly<MG230> My disciples<MG3101>; <a href="/john/8-32.htm">32</a>and you will know<MG1097> the truth<MG225>, and the truth<MG225> will set<MG1659> you free<MG1659>.” <a href="/john/8-33.htm">33</a>They answered<MG611> Him, “We are Abraham’s<MG11> descendants<MG4690> and have never<MG3762, 4455> been enslaved<MG1398> to anyone<MG3762>; how<MG4459> is it that You say<MG3004>, ‘You will become<MG1096> free<MG1658>’?” <a href="/john/8-34.htm">34</a>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> them, “Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, everyone<MG3956> who commits<MG4160> sin<MG266> is a slave<MG1401> of sin<MG266>. <a href="/john/8-35.htm">35</a>Now<MG1161> the slave<MG1401> does not remain<MG3306> in the house<MG3614> forever<MG165>; the son<MG5207> does remain<MG3306> forever<MG165>. <a href="/john/8-36.htm">36</a>So<MG3767> if<MG1437> the Son<MG5207> sets<MG1659> you free<MG1659>, you really<MG3689> will be free<MG1658>. <a href="/john/8-37.htm">37</a>I know<MG3609a> that you are Abraham’s<MG11> descendants<MG4690>; yet<MG235> you are seeking<MG2212> to kill<MG615> Me, because<MG3754> My word<MG3056> <a href="#fn">[l]</a>has<MG5562> no<MG3756> place<MG5562> in you. <a href="/john/8-38.htm">38</a>I speak<MG2980> of the things which<MG3739> I have seen<MG3708> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>with My Father<MG3962>; therefore<MG3767> you also<MG2532> do<MG4160> the things which<MG3739> you heard<MG191> from your father<MG3962>.” <a href="/john/8-39.htm">39</a>They answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to Him, “Abraham<MG11> is our father<MG3962>.” Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “If<MG1487> you are Abraham’s<MG11> children<MG5043>, do<MG4160> the deeds<MG2041> of Abraham<MG11>. <a href="/john/8-40.htm">40</a>But as it is, you are seeking<MG2212> to kill<MG615> Me, a man<MG444> who<MG3739> has told<MG2980> you the truth<MG225>, which<MG3739> I heard<MG191> from God<MG2316>; this<MG3778> Abraham<MG11> did not do<MG4160>. <a href="/john/8-41.htm">41</a>You are doing<MG4160> the deeds<MG2041> of your father<MG3962>.” They said<MG3004> to Him, “We were not born<MG1080> as a result<MG1537> of sexual<MG4202> immorality<MG4202>; we have<MG2192> one<MG1520> Father<MG3962>: God<MG2316>.” <a href="/john/8-42.htm">42</a>Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “If<MG1487> God<MG2316> were your Father<MG3962>, you would love<MG25> Me, for I came<MG1831> forth<MG1831> from God<MG2316> and am<MG2240> here<MG2240>; for I have not even<MG3761> come<MG2064> <a href="#fn">[n]</a>on My own<MG1683>, but <a href="#fn">[o]</a>He sent<MG649> Me. <a href="/john/8-43.htm">43</a>Why<MG1223, 5101> do you not understand<MG1097> <a href="#fn">[p]</a>what<MG2981> I am saying<MG2981>? It is because<MG3754> you cannot<MG1410, 3756> listen<MG191> to My word<MG3056>. <a href="/john/8-44.htm">44</a>You are of your father<MG3962> the devil<MG1228>, and you want<MG2309> to do<MG4160> the desires<MG1939> of your father<MG3962>. He was a murderer<MG443> from the beginning<MG746>, and does not stand<MG4739> in the truth<MG225> because<MG3754> there is no<MG3756> truth<MG225> in him. Whenever<MG3752> he tells<MG2980> <a href="#fn">[q]</a>a lie<MG5579>, he speaks<MG2980> from his own<MG2398> nature, because<MG3754> he is a liar<MG5583> and the father<MG3962> of <a href="#fn">[r]</a>lies<MG846>. <a href="/john/8-45.htm">45</a>But because<MG3754> I say<MG3004> the truth<MG225>, you do not believe<MG4100> Me. <a href="/john/8-46.htm">46</a>Which<MG5101> one<MG5101> of you convicts<MG1651> Me of sin<MG266>? If<MG1487> I speak<MG3004> truth<MG225>, why<MG1223, 5101> do you not believe<MG4100> Me? <a href="/john/8-47.htm">47</a>The one who is of God<MG2316> hears<MG191> the words<MG4487> of God<MG2316>; for this<MG3778> reason<MG1223> you do not hear<MG191> them, because<MG3754> you are not of God<MG2316>.” <a href="/john/8-48.htm">48</a>The Jews<MG2453> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to Him, “Do we not rightly<MG2573> say<MG3004> that You are a Samaritan<MG4541>, and You have<MG2192> a demon<MG1140>?” <a href="/john/8-49.htm">49</a>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611>, “I do not have<MG2192> a demon<MG1140>; on<MG235> the<MG235> contrary<MG235>, I honor<MG5091> My Father<MG3962>, and you dishonor<MG818> Me. <a href="/john/8-50.htm">50</a>But I am not seeking<MG2212> My glory<MG1391>; there is One who seeks<MG2212> it, and judges<MG2919>. <a href="/john/8-51.htm">51</a>Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you, if<MG1437> anyone<MG5100> follows<MG5083> My word<MG3056>, he will never<MG3756, 3361> see<MG2334> death<MG2288>.” <a href="/john/8-52.htm">52</a>The Jews<MG2453> said<MG3004> to Him, “Now<MG3568> we know<MG1097> that You have<MG2192> a demon<MG1140>. Abraham<MG11> died<MG599>, and the prophets<MG4396> as well; and yet You say<MG3004>, ‘If<MG1437> anyone<MG5100> follows<MG5083> My word<MG3056>, he will never<MG3756, 3361> taste<MG1089> of death<MG2288>.’ <a href="/john/8-53.htm">53</a>You are not greater<MG3173> than our father<MG3962> Abraham<MG11>, who<MG3748> died<MG599>, are You? The prophets<MG4396> died<MG599> too<MG2532>. Whom<MG5101> do You make<MG4160> Yourself<MG4572> out to be?” <a href="/john/8-54.htm">54</a>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611>, “If<MG1437> I glorify<MG1392> Myself<MG1683>, My glory<MG1391> is nothing<MG3762>; it is My Father<MG3962> who glorifies<MG1392> Me, of whom<MG3739> you say<MG3004>, ‘He is our God<MG2316>’; <a href="/john/8-55.htm">55</a>and you have not come to know<MG1097> Him, but I know<MG3609a> Him.
