filter algorithm is an estimator known as the workhorse of estimation. It has an important application in missile guidance, especially in lack of accurate data of the target due to noise or uncertainty. In this paper, a Kalman filter is used as a tracking filter in a simulated target-interceptor scenario with noise. It estimates the position, velocity, and acceleration of the target in the presence of noise. These estimations are needed for both proportional navigation and differential geometry guidance laws. A Kalman filter has a good performance at low noise, but a large noise causes considerable errors leads to performance degradation. Therefore, a new technique is required to overcome this defect using tuning factors to tune a Kalman filter to adapt increasing of noise. The values of the tuning factors are between 0.8 and 1.2, they have a specific value for the first half of range and a different value for the second half. they are multiplied by the estimated values. These factors have its optimum values and are altered with the change of the target heading. A genetic algorithm updates these selections to increase the maximum effective range which was previously reduced by noise. The results show that the selected factors have other benefits such as decreasing the minimum effective range that was increased earlier due to noise. In addition to, the selected factors decrease the miss distance for all ranges of this direction of the target, and expand the effective range which leads to increase probability of kill. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=proportional%20navigation" title="proportional navigation">proportional navigation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=differential%20geometry" title=" differential geometry"> differential geometry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kalman%20filter" title=" Kalman filter"> Kalman filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20algorithm" title=" genetic algorithm"> genetic algorithm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21005/tuning-of-kalman-filter-using-genetic-algorithm" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21005.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">512</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">52</span> Nanocrystalline Cellulose from Oil Palm Fiber</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ridzuan%20Ramli">Ridzuan Ramli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zianor%20Azrina%20Zianon%20Abdin"> Zianor Azrina Zianon Abdin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Dalour%20Beg"> Mohammad Dalour Beg</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rosli%20M.%20Yunus"> Rosli M. Based on the FESEM analysis, it was found that NCC has a rod like shaped under the acid hydrolysis with an assistant of ultrasound. According to thermal stability, the NCC obtained show remarkable sign of high thermal stability compared to EFB fiber and EFB pulp. However, as the hydrolysis time increase, the thermal stability of NCC was deceased. As in conclusion, the NCC can be prepared by using ultrasound assisted acid hydrolysis. The NCC obtained have good thermal stability and have a great potential as the reinforcement in composite materials. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nanocrystalline%20cellulose" title="Nanocrystalline cellulose">Nanocrystalline cellulose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasound%20assisted%20acid%20hydrolysis" title=" ultrasound assisted acid hydrolysis"> ultrasound assisted acid hydrolysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20stability" title=" thermal stability"> thermal stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology" title=" morphology"> morphology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=empty%20fruit%20bunch%20%28EFB%29" title=" empty fruit bunch (EFB)"> empty fruit bunch (EFB)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16060/nanocrystalline-cellulose-from-oil-palm-fiber" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16060.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">480</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">51</span> Nanocellulose Incorporated Polyvinyl Alcohol Hydrogel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rosli%20Mohd%20Yunus">Rosli Mohd Yunus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zianor%20Azrina%20Zianon%20Abdin"> Zianor Azrina Zianon Abdin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Dalour%20Hossen%20Beg"> Mohammad Dalour Hossen Beg</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ridzuan%20Ramli"> Ridzuan Ramli </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Recently, nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) has gained considerable interest as a promising biomaterial due to their outstanding properties such as high surface area, high mechanical properties, hydrophilicity, biocompatibility and biodegradability. The NCC also has good stability in water which is compatible for mixing of water based polymer solution or emulsions with NCC. Oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) contained different amount of lignocellulosic materials such as lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose. Cellulose is the most significant materials that can be extracted from EFB as nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC). In this work the nanocrystalline cellulose were produced through acid hydrolysis together with ultrasound technique. The morphology of NCC was characterized by TEM, thermal behavior has been studied with DSC, TGA analysis. Structural properties were illustrated X-Ray diffraction as well as FTIR. The hydrogel was produced using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with different concentration of NCC. The hydrogel composite was characterized by swelling ratio, crosslinking density, mechanical properties and morphology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanocellulose" title="nanocellulose">nanocellulose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oil%20palm" title=" oil palm"> oil palm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrogel" title=" hydrogel"> hydrogel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20treatment" title=" water treatment"> water treatment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49487/nanocellulose-incorporated-polyvinyl-alcohol-hydrogel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49487.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">272</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">50</span> Assessment of the Occupancy’s Effect on Speech Intelligibility in Al-Madinah Holy Mosque</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wasim%20Orfali">Wasim Orfali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Tolba"> Hesham Tolba</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research investigates the acoustical characteristics of Al-Madinah Holy Mosque. Extensive field measurements were conducted in different locations of Al-Madinah Holy Mosque to characterize its acoustic characteristics. The acoustical characteristics are usually evaluated by the use of objective parameters in unoccupied rooms due to practical considerations. However, under normal conditions, the room occupancy can vary such characteristics due to the effect of the additional sound absorption present in the room or by the change in signal-to-noise ratio. Based on the acoustic measurements carried out in Al-Madinah Holy Mosque with and without occupancy, and the analysis of such measurements, the existence of acoustical deficiencies has been confirmed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Al-Madinah%20Holy%20Mosque" title="Al-Madinah Holy Mosque">Al-Madinah Holy Mosque</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mosque%20acoustics" title=" mosque acoustics"> mosque acoustics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speech%20intelligibility" title=" speech intelligibility"> speech intelligibility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=worship%20sound" title=" worship sound"> worship sound</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97808/assessment-of-the-occupancys-effect-on-speech-intelligibility-in-al-madinah-holy-mosque" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97808.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">179</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">49</span> Analysis of Osmotin as Transcription Factor/Cell Signaling Modulator Using Bioinformatic Tools</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Usha%20Kiran">Usha Kiran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Z.%20Abdin"> M. It provides plants protection from pathogens, hence placed in the PRP family of proteins. The osmotin induced proline accumulation has been reported in plants including transgenic tomato and strawberry conferring tolerance against both biotic and abiotic stresses. The exact mechanism of induction of proline by osmotin is however, not known till date. These observations have led us to hypothesize that osmotin induced proline accumulation could be due to its involvement as transcription factor and/or cell signal pathway modulator in proline biosynthesis. The present investigation was therefore, undertaken to analyze the osmotin protein as transcription factor /cell signalling modulator using bioinformatics tools. The results of available online DNA binding motif search programs revealed that osmotin does not contain DNA-binding motifs. The alignment results of osmotin protein with the protein sequence from DATF showed the homology in the range of 0-20%, suggesting that it might not contain a DNA binding motif. Further to find unique DNA-binding domain, the superimposition of osmotin 3D structure on modeled Arabidopsis transcription factors using Chimera also suggested absence of the same. We, however, found evidence implicating osmotin in cell signaling. With these results, we concluded that osmotin is not a transcription factor but regulating proline biosynthesis and accumulation through cell signaling during abiotic stresses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=osmotin" title="osmotin">osmotin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20signaling%20modulator" title=" cell signaling modulator"> cell signaling modulator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioinformatic%20tools" title=" bioinformatic tools"> bioinformatic tools</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=protein" title=" protein "> protein </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/8485/analysis-of-osmotin-as-transcription-factorcell-signaling-modulator-using-bioinformatic-tools" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/8485.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">273</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">48</span> Nematodes, Rotifers, Tardigrades and Diatoms as Vehicles for the Panspermic Transfer of Microbes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sulamain%20Alharbi">Sulamain Alharbi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Khiyami"> Mohammad Khiyami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reda%20Amasha"> Reda Amasha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bassam%20Al-Johny"> Bassam Al-Johny</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Khalil"> Hesham Khalil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Milton%20Wainwrigh"> Milton Wainwrigh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nematodes, Rotifers and Tardigrades (NRT) are extreme-tolerant invertebrates which can survive long periods of stasis brought about by extreme drying and cold. Here we show that NRT contain a variety of bacteria and fungi within their bodies in which environment they could be protected from the extremes of the space and released into new cosmic environments. Diatoms were also shown to contain viable alga and Escherichia coli and so could also act as panspermic vehicles for the transfer of these and perhaps other microbes through space. Pegylated liposomes were used to encapsulate calcein and then release this model drug when 20-kHz, 40-kHz, 1-MHz and 3-MHz ultrasound were applied at different acoustic power densities. Fluorescence techniques were then used to measure the percent drug release of calcein from these targeted liposomes. Results showed that as the power density increases, at the four frequencies studied, the release of calcein also increased. Based on these results, we believe that ultrasound can be used to increase the rate and amount of chemotherapeutics release from liposomes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liposomes" title="liposomes">liposomes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=calcein%20release" title=" calcein release"> calcein release</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20frequency%20ultrasound" title=" high frequency ultrasound"> high frequency ultrasound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20frequency%20ultrasound" title=" low frequency ultrasound"> low frequency ultrasound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluorescence%20techniques" title=" fluorescence techniques"> fluorescence techniques</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24679/release-of-calcein-from-liposomes-using-low-and-high-frequency-ultrasound" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24679.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">426</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> DNA Based Identification of Insect Vectors for Zoonotic Diseases From District Faisalabad, Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zain%20Ul%20Abdin">Zain Ul Abdin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mirza%20Aizaz%20Asim"> Mirza Aizaz Asim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rao%20Sohail%20Ahmad%20Khan"> Rao Sohail Ahmad Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luqman%20Amrao"> Luqman Amrao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fiaz%20Hussain"> Fiaz Hussain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hasooba%20Hira"> Hasooba Hira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saqi%20Kosar%20Abbas"> Saqi Kosar Abbas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The success of Integrated vector management programmes mainly depends on the correct identification of insect vector species involved in vector borne diseases. Based on molecular data the most important insect species involved as vectors for Zoonotic diseases in Pakistan were identified. The precise and accurate identification of such type of organism is only possible through molecular based techniques like “DNA barcoding”. Morphological species identification in insects at any life stage, is very challenging, therefore, DNA barcoding was used as a tool for rapid and accurate species identification in a wide variety of taxa across the globe and parallel studies revealed that DNA barcoding data can be effectively used in resolving taxonomic ambiguities, detection of cryptic diversity, invasion biology, description of new species etc. A comprehensive survey was carried out for the collection of insects (both adult and immature stages) in district Faisalabad, Pakistan and their DNA was extracted and mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI-59) barcode sequences was used for molecular identification of immature and adult life stage. This preliminary research work opens new frontiers for developing sustainable insect vectors management programmes for saving lives of mankind from fatal diseases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zoonotic%20diseases" title="zoonotic diseases">zoonotic diseases</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cytochrome%20oxidase" title=" cytochrome oxidase"> cytochrome oxidase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=and%20insect%20vectors" title=" and insect vectors"> and insect vectors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO1" title=" CO1"> CO1</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153916/dna-based-identification-of-insect-vectors-for-zoonotic-diseases-from-district-faisalabad-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153916.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">44</span> Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Flow Control Using a Novel Active Slat </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Basman%20Elhadidi">Basman Elhadidi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Islam%20Elqatary"> Islam Elqatary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osama%20Saaid"> Osama Saaid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Othman"> Hesham Othman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An active slat is developed to increase the lift and delay the separation for a DU96-W180 airfoil. Structures exposed to an aggressive, humid and hostile environment are experiencing severe negative impacts which lead to premature failure. Polyester resin is one of the advanced material used for improving performance of structural materials especially for repair/ refurbish purpose of structures and protection from contaminated environmental effect/ hazards. This study investigated the aptness of the polyester resin as coating agent on the mortar and assessed its performance in an ambient environment of Pakistan. Cubical specimens of mortar were fabricated. These specimens were tested for water absorption and compressive strength after one day and sixty days. These tests were performed under different exposure conditions (ambient environment and submerged in water). The specimens were coated with one, two and three layers and results were compared to control (no/ zero resin layer) specimens. Test results indicated that there is a significant decrease in water absorption of mortar coated with resin when compared to controlled specimens. The compressive strength test results revealed that resin coated specimen had higher strength when compared to controlled specimens. The results suggested that resin is a promising material and can be used effectively in structures which are exposed to high temperatures. The study would be helpful in improving performance of the structural material in a hazardous environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ambient%20environment" title="ambient environment">ambient environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coating" title=" coating"> coating</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mortar" title=" mortar"> mortar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyester%20resin" title=" polyester resin"> polyester resin</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38313/investigation-of-water-absorption-and-compressive-strength-of-resin-coated-mortar" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38313.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">358</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">42</span> Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Flow Control Using a Novel Active Slat</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Basman%20Elhadidi">Basman Elhadidi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Islam%20Elqatary"> Islam Elqatary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osama%20Mohamady"> Osama Mohamady</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Othman"> Hesham Othman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An active slat is developed to increase the lift and delay the separation for a DU96-W180 airfoil. Jordan can be regarded with a relatively high potential for waste water recycling and reuse. The main purpose of this paper was to investigate the removal of Total suspended solids (TSS) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) for olive mill waste water (OMW) by the electrocoagulation (EC) process. In the combination of electrocoagulation by using coupled iron–aluminum electrodes the optimum working pH was found to be in range 6. The efficiency of the electrocoagulation process allowed removal of TSS and COD about 82.5% and 47.5% respectively at 45 mA/cm2 after 70 minutes by using coupled iron–aluminum electrodes. These results showed that the optimum TSS and COD removal was obtained at the optimum experimental parameters such as current density, pH, and reaction time. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=olive%20mill%20wastewater" title="olive mill wastewater">olive mill wastewater</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrode" title=" electrode"> electrode</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrocoagulation%20%28EC%29" title=" electrocoagulation (EC)"> electrocoagulation (EC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TSS" title=" TSS"> TSS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COD" title=" COD"> COD</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25362/treatment-of-olive-mill-wastewater-by-electrocoagulation-processes-and-water-resources-management" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25362.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">394</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Power Series Solution to Sliding Velocity in Three-Dimensional Multibody Systems with Impact and Friction</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20A.%20Elkaranshawy">Hesham A. No analytical solutions have been obtained before for this highly nonlinear system. Hence, a power series solution is proposed. Since the validity of this solution is limited to its convergence zone, a suitable time step is chosen and at the end of it a new series solution is constructed. For a case study, the trajectory of the sliding velocity using the proposed method is built using 6 time steps, which coincides with a Runge-Kutta solution using 38 time steps. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impact%20with%20friction" title="impact with friction">impact with friction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20ordinary%20differential%20equations" title=" nonlinear ordinary differential equations"> nonlinear ordinary differential equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20series%20solutions" title=" power series solutions"> power series solutions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rough%20collision" title=" rough collision"> rough collision</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37962/power-series-solution-to-sliding-velocity-in-three-dimensional-multibody-systems-with-impact-and-friction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37962.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">488</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Effect of Robot Configuration Parameters, Masses and Friction on Painlevé Paradox for a Sliding Two-Link (P-R) Robot</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Mohammad%20Alkomy">Hassan Mohammad Alkomy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Elkaranshawy"> Hesham Elkaranshawy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Ibrahim%20Ashour"> Ahmed Ibrahim Ashour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20Tawfik%20Mohamed"> Khaled Tawfik Mohamed</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> For a rigid body sliding on a rough surface, a range of uncertainty or non-uniqueness of solution could be found, which is termed: Painlevé paradox. There are different types of security attacks that limit the range of the RFID applications. For example, deploying the RFID networks in insecure environments could make the RFID system vulnerable to many types of attacks such as spoofing attack, location traceability attack, physical attack and many more. Therefore, security is often an important requirement for RFID systems. In this paper, RFID mutual authentication protocol is implemented based on mobile agent technology and timestamp, which are used to provide strong authentication and integrity assurances to both the RFID readers and their corresponding RFID tags. The integration of mobile agent technology and timestamp provides promising results towards achieving this goal and towards reducing the security threats in RFID systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RFID" title="RFID">RFID</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=security" title=" security"> security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=authentication%20protocols" title=" authentication protocols"> authentication protocols</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=privacy" title=" privacy"> privacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agent-based%20architecture" title=" agent-based architecture"> agent-based architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time-stamp" title=" time-stamp"> time-stamp</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20signature" title=" digital signature"> digital signature</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39871/efficient-and-timely-mutual-authentication-scheme-for-rfid-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39871.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">270</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> Shipboard Power Plant Design as Senior Design Project</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Shaalan">Hesham Shaalan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Senior design projects teach students many important skills. Methods: We analyzed data of uncomplicated PE and identified eyes with PME. First-line therapy included topical NSAIDs combined with oral acetazolamide. In case of non-response, triamcinolone was administered subtenonally. Outcome measures included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central macular thickness (CMT). Results: 94 eyes out of 9750 uncomplicated PE developed PME, of which 60 eyes were included. Follow-ups occurred 6.4±1.8, 12.5±3.7, and 18.6±6.0 weeks after diagnosis. BCVA and CMT improved significantly in all follow-ups. 40 eyes showed response to first-line therapy at first follow-up (G1). The remaining 20 eyes showed no response and required subtenon triamcinolone (G2), of which 11 eyes showed complete regression at the second follow-up and 4 eyes at the third follow-up. 5 eyes showed no response and required intravitreal injection. Multivariate linear regression model showed that diabetes mellitus (DM) and increased cumulative dissipated energy (CDE) are predictors of non-response. Conclusion: Topical NSAIDs with acetazolamide resulted in complete regression of PME in 67% of all cases. DM and increased CDE might be considered as predictors of nonresponse to this treatment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=postoperative%20macular%20edema" title="postoperative macular edema">postoperative macular edema</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intravitreal%20injection" title=" intravitreal injection"> intravitreal injection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cumulative%20energy" title=" cumulative energy"> cumulative energy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=irvine%20gass%20syndrome" title=" irvine gass syndrome"> irvine gass syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pseudophakie" title=" pseudophakie"> pseudophakie</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156170/topical-nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory-eye-drops-and-oral-acetazolamide-for-macular-edema-after-uncomplicated-phacoemulsification-outcome-and-predictors-of-non-response" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156170.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">119</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">34</span> The Engineering Properties of Jordanian Marble</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mousa%20Bani%20Baker">Mousa Bani Baker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raed%20Abendeh"> Raed Abendeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zaidoon%20Abu%20Salem"> Zaidoon Abu Salem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Ahmad"> Hesham Ahmad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research paper was commissioned to discuss the Jordanian marble, which is a non-foliated metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Geologists use the term "marble" to refer to metamorphosed limestone; however, stonemasons use the term more broadly to encompass unmetamorphised limestone. Marble is commonly used for sculpture and as a building material. The marble has many uses; one of them is using the white marble that has been prized for its use in sculptures since classical times. This preference has to do with its softness, relative isotropy and homogeneity, and a relative resistance to shattering. Another use of it is the construction marble which is “a stone which is composed of calcite, dolomite or serpentine which is capable of taking a polish” Marble Institute of America. This report focuses most about the marble in Jordan and its properties: rock definition, physical properties, the marble occurrences in Jordan, types of Jordanian marble and their prices and test done on this marble. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marble" title="marble">marble</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metamorphic" title=" metamorphic"> metamorphic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-foliated" title=" non-foliated"> non-foliated</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressive%20strength" title=" compressive strength"> compressive strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recrystallized" title=" recrystallized"> recrystallized</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moh%E2%80%99s%20hardness" title=" Moh’s hardness"> Moh’s hardness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=abrasion" title=" abrasion"> abrasion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=absorption" title=" absorption"> absorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modulus%20of%20rupture" title=" modulus of rupture"> modulus of rupture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=porosity" title=" porosity"> porosity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30419/the-engineering-properties-of-jordanian-marble" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30419.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">373</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">33</span> Improvement of Artemisinin Production by P. indica in Hairy Root Cultures of A. annua L.</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seema%20Ahlawat">Seema Ahlawat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parul%20Saxena"> Parul Saxena</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malik%20Zainul%20Abdin"> Malik Zainul Abdin </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Malaria is a major health problem in many developing countries. The parasite responsible for the vast majority of fatal malaria infections is Plasmodium falciparum. Unfortunately, most Plasmodium strains including P. falciparum have become resistant to most of the antimalarials including chloroquine, mefloquine, etc. To combat this problem, WHO has recommended the use of artemisinin and its derivatives in artemisinin based combination therapy (ACT). Due to its current use in artemisinin based-combination therapy (ACT), its global demand is increasing continuously. But, the relatively low yield of artemisinin in A. annua L. plants and unavailability of economically viable synthetic protocols are the major bottlenecks for its commercial production and clinical use. Chemical synthesis of artemisinin is also very complex and uneconomical. The hairy root system, using the Agrobacterium rhizogenes LBA 9402 strain to enhance the production of artemisinin in A. annua L., is developed in our laboratory. The transgenic nature of hairy root lines and the copy number of trans gene (rol B) were confirmed using PCR and Southern Blot analyses, respectively. The effect of different concentrations of Piriformospora indica on artemisinin production in hairy root cultures were evaluated. 3% P. indica has resulted 1.97 times increase in artemisinin production in comparison to control cultures. The effects of P. indica on artemisinin production was positively correlated with regulatory genes of MVA, MEP and artemisinin biosynthetic pathways, viz. hmgr, ads, cyp71av1, aldh1, dxs, dxr and dbr2 in hairy root cultures of A. annua L. Mass scale cultivation of A. annua L. hairy roots by plant tissue culture technology may be an alternative route for production of artemisinin. A comprehensive investigation of the hairy root system of A. annua L. would help in developing a viable process for the production of artemisinin. The efficiency of the scaling up systems still needs optimization before industrial exploitation becomes viable. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20annua%20L." title="A. annua L.">A. annua L.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artemisinin" title=" artemisinin"> artemisinin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hairy%20root%20cultures" title=" hairy root cultures"> hairy root cultures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=malaria" title=" malaria"> malaria</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22980/improvement-of-artemisinin-production-by-p-indica-in-hairy-root-cultures-of-a-annua-l" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22980.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">416</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Sliding Velocity in Impact with Friction in Three-Dimensional Multibody Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20A.%20Elkaranshawy">Hesham A. A set of nonlinear different equations describing the progress and outcome of the impact are obtained. Specifically in case of the tangential, referred to as sliding, component of impact velocity is of great importance. Numerical methods are used to solve this problem. In this work, all these possible sliding behaviors during impact are identified, conditions leading to each behavior are specified, and an appropriate numerical procedure is suggested. A case of a four-degrees-of-freedom spatial robot that collides with its environment is investigated. The phase portrait of the tangential velocity, which presents the flow trajectories for different initial conditions, is calculated. Using the coefficient of friction as a control parameter, few phase portraits are drawn, each for a specific value of this coefficient. In addition, the bifurcation associated with the variation of this coefficient will be investigated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=friction%20impact" title="friction impact">friction impact</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=three-dimensional%20rigid%20multibody%20systems" title=" three-dimensional rigid multibody systems"> three-dimensional rigid multibody systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sliding%20velocity" title=" sliding velocity"> sliding velocity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20ordinary%20differential%20equations" title=" nonlinear ordinary differential equations"> nonlinear ordinary differential equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20portrait" title=" phase portrait"> phase portrait</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44096/sliding-velocity-in-impact-with-friction-in-three-dimensional-multibody-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44096.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">382</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Characterization of Novel Bi-Directional Promoter from Begomovirus: A Breakthrough in Plant Genomics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zainul%20A.%20Khan">Zainul A. The large intergenic region (LIR) of the monopartite and common region (CR) of bipartite begomoviruses possess promoter activity in their genomes. In this study, we have characterized novel bidirectional promoters from Cotton leaf curl Burewala virus (CLCuBuV) genome using high-throughput software and analyzed with PlantCARE, PLACE, Cister and PlantPAN databases. The promoters (Rep and CP promoters) were assayed both in stable and transient expression systems in tobacco as well as cotton plants. Rep and CP-based promoters from the LIR sequence of CLCuBuV and 35S promoter of Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) were tagged with β-glucuronidase (GUS) and green fluorescent protein (GFP) reporter genes to check the efficacy of the promoters. Histochemical staining of GUS in transformed tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum cv. Xanthi) leaves showed higher GUS expression driven by CLCuBuV Rep (complimentary sense) promoter as compared to conventional CaMV 35S promoter and CLCuBuV CP (virion sense) promoter, respectively. GUS activity in individual plant cells driven by CLCuBuV Rep, CLCuBuV CP, and CaMV 35S promoter were quantified through fluorometric GUS assay and reverse transcription quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR). The expression level of GUS tagged with CLCuBuV Rep promoter in the transformed tobacco plants was obtained 2 to 4 fold higher than CaMV 35S promoter. When CLCuBuV CP promoter was used, lower expression level was monitored than that by CaMV 35S promoter. The expression of GFP-tagged with CLCuBuV promoters was also investigated through agroinfiltration. The CLCuBuV Rep promoters showed stronger consistent transient expression in the leaves of N. benthamiana, N. tabacum and Gossypium hirsutum plants when compared with CaMV 35S and CLCuBuV CP promoter. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Begmovirus" title="Begmovirus">Begmovirus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bidirectional%20promoter" title=" bidirectional promoter"> bidirectional promoter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CaMV%2035S%20promoter" title=" CaMV 35S promoter"> CaMV 35S promoter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GFP" title=" GFP"> GFP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GUS" title=" GUS"> GUS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=qPCR" title=" qPCR"> qPCR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32835/characterization-of-novel-bi-directional-promoter-from-begomovirus-a-breakthrough-in-plant-genomics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32835.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">333</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Cochlear Implants and the Emerging Therapies for Managing Hearing Loss</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Kozou">Hesham Kozou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) poses a significant challenge due to limited access to the inner ear for therapies. These datasets consist of multiple modalities, each of which has a different representation, distribution, scale, and density. Multimodal fusion is the concept of integrating information from multiple modalities in a joint representation with the goal of predicting an outcome through a classification task or regression task. In this paper, multimodal fusion techniques are classified into two main classes: model-agnostic techniques and model-based approaches. It provides a comprehensive study of recent research in each class and outlines the benefits and limitations of each of them. Furthermore, the audiovisual speech recognition task is expressed as a case study of multimodal data fusion approaches, and the open issues through the limitations of the current studies are presented. The glass waste is generated in a huge amount which can make one of its disposal in concrete industry effective not only as a green solution but also as an advantage to enhance the performance of mechanical properties and durability of concrete. This article reports the performance of concrete specimens containing different percentages of milled glass waste as a partial replacement of cement (Powder), when they are subject to cycles of freezing and thawing. The tests were conducted on 75-mm cubes and 75 x 75 x 300-mm prisms. Compressive strength based on laboratory testing and non-destructive ultrasonic pulse velocity test were performed during the action of freezing-thawing cycles (F/T). The results revealed that the incorporation of glass waste in concrete mixtures is not only feasible but also showed generally better strength and durability performance than control concrete mixture. The MIC for evaluating the efficacy of sensitivity of Mycoplasma isolates against different antibiotics groups revealed that both the Linospectin and Tylosin with 2ug, 0.25ug/ml concentration were the most effective antibiotics for Mycoplasma isolates. The application of PCR was the rapid, specific and sensitive molecular approach for detection of M. ovipneumoniae, and M. arginine at 390 and 326 bp, respectively, in all tested isolates. In conclusion, the diagnosis of Mycoplsamosis in sheep is important to achieve effective control measures and minimizing the disease dissemination among sheep herds. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MIC" title="MIC">MIC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mycoplasmosis" title=" mycoplasmosis"> mycoplasmosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PCR" title=" PCR"> PCR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sheep" title=" sheep"> sheep</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136307/clinical-and-molecular-characterization-of-mycoplasmosis-in-sheep-in-egypt" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136307.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">228</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Reduction of Multiple User Interference for Optical CDMA Systems Using Successive Interference Cancellation Scheme</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tawfig%20Eltaif">Tawfig Eltaif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20A.%20Bakarman"> Hesham A. In this article, we aim to mitigate this problem by studying an interference cancellation scheme called successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme. This scheme will be tested on two different detection schemes, spectral amplitude coding (SAC) and direct detection systems (DS), using partial modified prime (PMP) as the signature codes. It was found that SIC scheme based on both SAC and DS methods had a potential to suppress the intensity noise, that is to say, it can mitigate MUI noise. Furthermore, SIC/DS scheme showed much lower bit error rate (BER) performance relative to SIC/SAC scheme for different magnitude of effective power. Hence, many more users can be supported by SIC/DS receiver system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20code-division%20multiple%20access%20%28OCDMA%29" title="optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA)">optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=successive%20interference%20cancellation%20%28SIC%29" title=" successive interference cancellation (SIC)"> successive interference cancellation (SIC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiple%20user%20interference%20%28MUI%29" title=" multiple user interference (MUI)"> multiple user interference (MUI)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20amplitude%20coding%20%28SAC%29" title=" spectral amplitude coding (SAC)"> spectral amplitude coding (SAC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=partial%20modified%20prime%20code%20%28PMP%29" title=" partial modified prime code (PMP)"> partial modified prime code (PMP)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33603/reduction-of-multiple-user-interference-for-optical-cdma-systems-using-successive-interference-cancellation-scheme" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33603.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">521</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25</span> Active Bio-Packaging Fabricated from Coated Bagasse Papers with Polystyrene Nanocomposites</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20%20Moustafa">Hesham Moustafa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20M.%20Youssef"> Ahmed M. Thus, this study revealed that the by-product bagasse papers (BPs) derived from sugarcane waste can be decorated with a thin layer of polystyrene (PS) nanocomposites using the spreading approach.Three variable concentrations of TiO2 nanoparticles (i.e. 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 wt.%) were used to fabricate PS nanocomposites. The morphology of coated BP-PS biofilms was examined by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transferred Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Moreover, other measurements such as mechanical, thermal stability, flammability, wettability by the contact angle, water vapor, and gas barrier properties were carried out on the fabricated BP-PS biofilms. Most outcomes showed that the major properties were enhanced when the PS nanocomposites were implemented. The use of 1.5 wt.% TiO2 in PS nanocomposite for coated BP-PS biofilm increased the tensile stress by ~ 217 % compared to uncoated BP film. Furthermore, the rate of burning for BP-PS-1.5% film was reduced to ~ 33 mm/min because of the crystallinity of PS and the barrier effect provided by TiO₂ NPs. These coated sheets provide a promising candidate for use in advanced packaging applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bagasse%20paper" title="bagasse paper">bagasse paper</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polystyrene%20nanocomposites" title=" polystyrene nanocomposites"> polystyrene nanocomposites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TiO2%20nanoparticles" title=" TiO2 nanoparticles"> TiO2 nanoparticles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20packaging" title=" active packaging"> active packaging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20properties" title=" mechanical properties"> mechanical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flammability" title=" flammability"> flammability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152558/active-bio-packaging-fabricated-from-coated-bagasse-papers-with-polystyrene-nanocomposites" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152558.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">85</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">24</span> Evaluating Portfolio Performance by Highlighting Network Property and the Sharpe Ratio in the Stock Market</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zahra%20Hatami">Zahra Hatami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hesham%20Ali"> Hesham Ali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Volkman"> David Volkman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Selecting a portfolio for investing is a crucial decision for individuals and legal entities. In the last two decades, with economic globalization, a stream of financial innovations has rushed to the aid of financial institutions. The importance of selecting stocks for the portfolio is always a challenging task for investors. This study aims to create a financial network to identify optimal portfolios using network centralities metrics. This research presents a community detection technique of superior stocks that can be described as an optimal stock portfolio to be used by investors. By using the advantages of a network and its property in extracted communities, a group of stocks was selected for each of the various time periods. The performance of the optimal portfolios compared to the famous index. Their Sharpe ratio was calculated in a timely manner to evaluate their profit for making decisions. The analysis shows that the selected potential portfolio from stocks with low centrality measurement can outperform the market; however, they have a lower Sharpe ratio than stocks with high centrality scores. In other words, stocks with low centralities could outperform the S&P500 yet have a lower Sharpe ratio than high central stocks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
