And despite my best efforts, I couldn't do anything with it. I tried to make some artwork (and I even <a href="https://pain-rpg.blogspot.com/2022/05/the-ant-messiah.html" target="_blank">succeeded</a> with some attempts!) and some layouts (and I failed miserably). But there was an issue.</p><p>I felt something is wrong with the game.</p><p>And it took me two years to figure it out.</p><p>There was a problem with immersion - weird world isn't a problem itself, but weird world combined with really unusual playable "race" is bad. So bad that even I was unable to "feel" the game.</p><p>So, it's time to rework. And probably like 30% of the game (like 70 pages of text) must go. But it must be done - and honestly, I feel excited. Because it seems that this time I'll be able to do it right.</p><p>I just need to re-include humans. The <a href="https://pain-rpg.blogspot.com/2021/08/the-unlife-part-one.html" target="_blank">Unliving Ones</a> are cool - but the players need to be able to relate to their characters. To their drives, goals and emotions. Their fear and hunger.</p><p>So, back to work! I'm unsure whether I will keep you up to date, as I noticed a strange tendency of mine - the less I write about some projects, the more progress I'm able to make. It's weird and probably subconscious. And even though you should be used to be disappointed with decade-spanning delays, let's make an experiment and not post much about Pain in the upcoming days/weeks/millennia. Another year!</p><p>I'm still here, still semi-active in the TTRPG creative department. Too tired with people to participate in any online activities such as social media and stuff. Too burned out with Pain RPG to finally finish, playtest and release it. Too tired to care.<br /></p><p>But it doesn't mean I'm done. Actually, for the last month or two I've been working on another generic supplement, called the<b> Aldarien's Magic Tome</b>. And it will be about - you guessed it - magic! Random tables with strange items, even stranger item names, tons of magic-related rumors (dunno, 200-1000 of them, depending on my mental state, haha), NO SPELLS. There are amazing spell crafters in the community that are way better than me - and you should relate on their creativity and talent more than on mine - at least in the case of magical spells. <a href="https://ancientvaults.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Here</a> you can fint the finest example of them all.</p><p>Right now, the supplement is about halfway done (still fighting with the rumors) and will have like 50-70 A5-sized pages. Maybe I will find power to make some (non-AI) artwork for it. Maybe it will remain as text-only. Who knows.</p><p>Well, that's all for now. I will post here once it's released. I like to blog, I do not like schedules.</p><p>But you know what? I do not owe anything to anyone in terms of releasing my shit on any kind of schedule. In fact, no one can force me to release my shit at all! <a href="https://worldofortix.blogspot.com/search/label/Pain%20RPG">Pain</a> is complete and still unreleased. I think it's a really good game - but I cannot make it happen. I still have no strength to finish the artwork. And I don't have - and most likely will never have - strength to promote my games, my music, my art.</p><p>And I don't fucking care.</p><p>I do have my day job and I can still afford to eat. And even though I like when people buy my stuff, I find it extremely stressful to promote myself and my creations. I find zero joy in doing any kind of promotion - even sending the review copies hurts my brain haha (especially because approximately 75% of all people who received the review materials never bothered to review them). So - fuck it. I don't care anymore. I just want to create and release shit, even if no one will ever read it, yet alone use it in his/her/its games. The process of creation should be the reward itself.</p><p>OK, so what are my plans for this year, in terms of hobby?</p><p>None, to be honest. I never was able to keep up with promises, so fuck them. I do work on something new/old/whatever right now (another successor of the Terminal Space) but it will be quite big, with weird artwork and totally packed with gibberish nonsense. But it will take me years to complete it. I needed a <a href="http://worldofortix.blogspot.com/2022/05/pain-update-and-something-new-as-well.html" target="_blank">break</a> from <a href="https://www.pain-rpg.com/" target="_blank">Pain</a> and Sci-Fi (and Sci-Fantasy) in general. So I sat down and wrote a game. Systemless and comprised almost entirely of random tables. The proofreading and editing is already done, all artwork is done (with use of an <a href="https://creator.nightcafe.studio/u/painiseternal" target="_blank">AI</a>). Now I'm fighting with InDesign to make a proper PDF (better than my previous releases, made in... Word).</p><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>The world is arid and stagnant. The main region of the setting, simply known as the Wastes, is in fact an ancient seabed...</li><li>...or not - as there's nothing that should be considered a fact. Everything is just a table (or a list) of possibilities.</li><li>Speaking of tables - there are <b>seventy eight random tables</b> in the book. And hardly anything else in terms of text. You can form your own version of the world by picking different results or rolling the dice. Or - what's most likely to happen - you can cannibalize some ideas to include them in your own ongoing campaign.</li><li>The game will be released under Creative Commons license. And the package will contain a text document, to make aforementioned cannibalizing even easier.</li><li>Ten monsters, without any stats or concrete form. Just strange ideas. 4 random tables per monster. And they are <i>really weird</i>.<br /></li><li>The Trials will await the heroes. They must prove themselves to be worthy or be slaughtered by the ancient, timeless monsters: the Roach, the Goat, the Scorpion and the Guardian Angel.</li><li>I think, according to the current progress with the design, that the book will have about 80-100 pages. I was unable to make quality artwork in time that was satisfactory for me. All artwork I made for the Character Classes turned out to bee too low-res to be OK in print. And I need to make over 80 drawings for the game. And I felt pressure, so I snapped.</p><p>It was a purely self-exerted pressure, as I haven't promised any deadlines, release dates etc. So - it was just fucking stupid. I felt pressure, so I become feeling uncomfortable. And I've lost fun I had while working on Pain. And - to be honest - it was all about fun. The process of designing and illustrating this game was a source of great joy, until something in my mindset has changed.</p><p>So - let me repeat myself once again - I snapped. I felt like shit, like I let myself down.</p><p>Did I mention it was stupid? Yes, I did. And I realized that just mere moments later. So I've decided that it have to wait and that I need some rest. To regain the ability to have fun while working on the project.</p><p>My way of taking a rest is, well... I immediately started to work on something different. A setting that was slowly taking shape in my head for quite some time. And man, when I started writing it down, it begun taking shape really quickly. And still is.</p><p>So far I have over 8k words written (it means about 1k words per day - <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg5HOnq7zD0" target="_blank">not great, not terrible</a>). And it's not 8k words of notes - it's 8k words of an actual game. It's <a href="https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/214770/Towers-of-Krshal" target="_blank">Towers of Krshal</a> pace. And it's fun. Hard and difficult work but fun nonetheless.<br /></p><p>Maybe I will post something more about the setting tomorrow.</p><p>Oh, and the artwork above - it was made with help of an AI. I like it alot.
