wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex"> <div class="wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow"> <p>De Erasmusprijs is een oeuvreprijs die jaarlijks wordt toegekend aan een persoon of instelling die een buitengewone bijdrage heeft geleverd op het gebied van de geesteswetenschappen, sociale wetenschappen of de kunsten, in Europa en daarbuiten. De Erasmusprijs bestaat uit een bedrag van € 150.000. </p> <p>In de keuze voor de laureaten laat de Stichting zich leiden door de culturele tradities van Europa in het algemeen, en het gedachtegoed van Erasmus in het bijzonder. De nadruk ligt op humanistische waarden zoals tolerantie, culturele veelvormigheid en ondogmatisch, kritisch denken.</p> <p>De Erasmusprijs wordt jaarlijks uitgereikt door Zijne Majesteit de Koning – de Regent van de Stichting, tijdens een plechtigheid in het Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="prijstoekenning">Prijstoekenning</h3> <p>Het bestuur van de Stichting Praemium Erasmianum bepaalt ruim van tevoren in welk vakgebied de Erasmusprijs zal worden toegekend en wat het thema wordt. Aan de hand van dat thema wordt een adviescommissie gevormd, die samen met deskundigen van buiten het bestuur, een voorstel doet voor de Erasmusprijswinnaar van dat jaar. Het bestuur is verantwoordelijk voor de uiteindelijke keuze van de laureaat. </p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="activiteiten-en-publicaties">Activiteiten en publicaties</h3> <p>Rond de uitreiking van de Erasmusprijs organiseert de Stichting activiteiten die samenhangen met het thema van dat jaar. Deze evenementen worden georganiseerd in samenwerking met andere culturele en wetenschappelijke instellingen. De activiteiten omvatten bijvoorbeeld – afhankelijk van het prijsgebied – interviews, lezingen, congressen, masterclasses, tentoonstellingen, concerten of filmprogramma’s. Bovendien worden regelmatig publicaties uitgebracht over het werk van de laureaat. Daarnaast brengt de Stichting een reeks ‘Erasmus Essays’ uit, met speciaal voor de Stichting geschreven essays van de Erasmusprijslaureaten.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="prijs-en-versierselen">Prijs en Versierselen</h3> <p>De Erasmusprijs bestaat, naast het prijzengeld van € 150.000, uit versierselen die zijn ontworpen door Bruno Ninaber van Eyben. De versierselen, die door Zijne Majesteit de Koning tijdens de ceremonie bij de laureaat worden omgehangen, bestaan uit een harmonica gevouwen lint met aan de beide uiteinden een titanium plaatje. Gesloten vormt het een boekje; geopend vormt het een lint waarop een tekst in het handschrift van Erasmus tevoorschijn komt. Deze Latijnse tekst, uit een brief die hij in 1523 schreef, is typerend voor het gedachtegoed van Erasmus: “De talenten van begaafde mensen zijn verschillend en ieder tijdperk heeft zijn eigen karakter. De Stichting is tegenwoordig geheel onafhankelijk. Uit de opbrengst van haar vermogen financiert de Stichting het prijzengeld van de Erasmusprijs, de Dissertatieprijzen, de activiteiten, publicaties en bureaukosten. De Stichting verstrekt geen incidentele subsidies of studiebeurzen.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="erasmus">Erasmus</h3> <p>De Stichting ontleent haar naam aan de befaamde humanistische geleerde Desiderius Erasmus (1466-1536). Erasmus was een wereldburger met een universele levensbeschouwing: kennis gaat boven onwetendheid, en menselijkheid is van grotere waarde dan enig dogma. Hij verwierp ideologische verdeeldheid en bepleitte gematigdheid en tolerantie.
