And Isaiah<MH3470b> the prophet<MH5030>, the son<MH1121> of Amoz<MH531>, came<MH935> to him and said<MH559> to him, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: ‘Set<MH6680> your house<MH1004> in<MH6680> order<MH6680>, for you are going to die<MH4191> and not live<MH2421a>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Then he turned<MH5437> his face<MH6440> to the wall<MH7023> and prayed<MH6419> to the LORD<MH3068>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>“Please<MH577>, LORD<MH3068>, just<MH4994> remember<MH2142> how<MH834> I have walked<MH1980> before<MH6440> You wholeheartedly<MH8003, 3824> and in truth<MH571>, and have done<MH6213a> what<MH2896a> is<MH2896a> good<MH2896a> in Your sight<MH5869>!” And Hezekiah<MH2396> wept<MH1058> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>profusely<MH1419, 1065>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And even before<MH3808> Isaiah<MH3470b> had left<MH3318> the middle<MH8484> courtyard<MH2691a>, the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to him, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“Return<MH7725> and say<MH559> to Hezekiah<MH2396> the leader<MH5057> of My people<MH5971a>, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of your father<MH1> David<MH1732> says<MH559>: “I have heard<MH8085> your prayer<MH8605>, I have seen<MH7200> your tears<MH1832>; behold<MH2009>, I am going to heal<MH7495> you. On the third<MH7992> day<MH3117> you shall go<MH5927> up<MH5927> to the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And I will add<MH3254> fifteen<MH2568, 6240> years<MH8141> to your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>life<MH3117>, and I will save<MH5337> you and this<MH2088> city<MH5892b> from the hand<MH3709> of the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>; and I will protect<MH1598> this<MH2088> city<MH5892b> for My own sake<MH4616> and for My servant<MH5650> David’s<MH1732> sake<MH4616>.”’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then Isaiah<MH3470b> said<MH559>, “Take<MH3947> a cake<MH1690> of figs<MH8384>.” And they took<MH3947> <i>it</i> and placed<MH7760> <i>it</i> on the inflamed<MH7822> spot<MH7822>, and he recovered<MH2421a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now Hezekiah<MH2396> said<MH559> to Isaiah<MH3470b>, “What<MH4100> <i>will be</i> the sign<MH226> that the LORD<MH3068> will heal<MH7495> me, and that I will go<MH5927> up<MH5927> to the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> on the third<MH7992> day<MH3117>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Isaiah<MH3470b> said<MH559>, “This<MH2088> shall be the sign<MH226> to you from the LORD<MH3068>, that the LORD<MH3068> will perform<MH6213a> the word<MH1697> that He has spoken<MH1696>: shall the shadow<MH6738> go<MH1980> forward ten<MH6235> steps<MH4609b> or<MH518> go<MH7725> back<MH7725> ten<MH6235> steps<MH4609b>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>So Hezekiah<MH2396> said<MH559>, “It is<MH7043> easy<MH7043> for the shadow<MH6738> to decline<MH5186> ten<MH6235> steps<MH4609b>; no<MH3808>, but have the shadow<MH6738> turn<MH7725> backward<MH322> ten<MH6235> steps<MH4609b>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Then Isaiah<MH3470b> the prophet<MH5030> called<MH7121> out<MH7121> to the LORD<MH3068>, and He brought<MH7725> the shadow<MH6738> on the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>stairway<MH4609b> back<MH322> ten<MH6235> steps<MH4609b> by which<MH834> it had gone<MH3381> down<MH3381> on the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>stairway<MH4609b> of Ahaz<MH271>. <p class="hdg">Hezekiah Shows Babylon His Treasures</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>At that time<MH6256> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Berodach-baladan<MH1255>, a son<MH1121> of Baladan<MH1081>, king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894>, sent<MH7971> letters<MH5612> and a gift<MH4503> to Hezekiah<MH2396>, because<MH3588> he heard<MH8085> that Hezekiah<MH2396> had been<MH2470a> sick<MH2470a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And Hezekiah<MH2396> listened<MH8085> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>them, and showed<MH7200> them all<MH3605> his treasure<MH5238> house<MH1004>, the silver<MH3701>, the gold<MH2091>, the balsam<MH1314> oil<MH1314>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>scented<MH2896a> oil<MH8081>, the house<MH1004> of his armor<MH3627>, and everything<MH3605> that was found<MH4672> in his treasuries<MH214>. There was nothing<MH3808, 1697> in his house<MH1004> nor<MH3808> in all<MH3605> his realm<MH4475> that Hezekiah<MH2396> did not show<MH7200> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then Isaiah<MH3470b> the prophet<MH5030> came<MH935> to King<MH4428> Hezekiah<MH2396> and said<MH559> to him, “What<MH4100> did these<MH428> men<MH376> say<MH559>, and from where<MH370> have they come<MH935> to you?” And Hezekiah<MH2396> said<MH559>, “They have come<MH935> from a far<MH7350> country<MH776>, from Babylon<MH894>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span><i>Isaiah</i> said<MH559>, “What<MH4100> have they seen<MH7200> in your house<MH1004>?” So Hezekiah<MH2396> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>answered<MH559>, “They have seen<MH7200> everything<MH3605> that is in my house<MH1004>; there is nothing<MH3808, 1697> among my treasuries<MH214> that I have not shown<MH7200> them.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then Isaiah<MH3470b> said<MH559> to Hezekiah<MH2396>, “Hear<MH8085> the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>‘Behold<MH2009>, the days<MH3117> are coming<MH935> when everything<MH3605> that is in your house<MH1004>, and what<MH834> your fathers<MH1> have stored<MH686> up to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>, will be carried<MH5375> to Babylon<MH894>; nothing<MH3808, 1697> will be left<MH3498>,’ says<MH559> the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>‘And some<MH4480> of your sons<MH1121> who<MH834> will come<MH3318> from you, whom<MH834> you will father<MH3205>, will be taken<MH3947> away; and they will become<MH1961> officials<MH5631> in the palace<MH1964> of the king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then Hezekiah<MH2396> said<MH559> to Isaiah<MH3470b>, “The word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> which<MH834> you have spoken<MH1696> is good<MH2896a>.” For he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>thought<MH559>, “Is it not <i>good,</i> if<MH518> there will be peace<MH7965> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>security<MH571> in my days<MH3117>?” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Now the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Hezekiah<MH2396> and all<MH3605> his might<MH1369>, and how<MH834> he constructed<MH6213a> the pool<MH1295> and the conduit<MH8585a> and brought<MH935> water<MH4325> into the city<MH5892b>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/20-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>So Hezekiah<MH2396> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>lay<MH7901> down<MH7901> with his fathers<MH1>, and his son<MH1121> Manasseh<MH4519> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>.<A name="fn"></a></p><br /><br /><span class="footnotesbot">[a]</span> <span class="fnverse">1</span> Lit <i>sick to death</i><br><span class="footnotesbot">[b]</span> <span class="fnverse">3</span> Lit <i>great weeping</i><br><span class="footnotesbot">[c]</span> <span class="fnverse">6</span> Lit <i>days</i><br><span class="footnotesbot">[d]</span> <span class="fnverse">11</span> Lit <i>steps</i><br><span class="footnotesbot">[e]</span> <span class="fnverse">11</span> Lit <i>steps</i><br><span class="footnotesbot">[f]</span> <span class="fnverse">12</span> Some mss and ancient versions <i>Merodach-baladan;</i> cf.
