After kneeling<MG1119, 5087> down<MG5087, 1119> on the beach<MG123> and praying<MG4336>, we said<MG537b> farewell<MG537b> to one<MG240> another<MG240>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then<MG2532> we boarded<MG1684> the ship<MG4143>, and they returned<MG5290> home<MG2398>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>When we had finished<MG1274> the voyage<MG4144> from Tyre<MG5184>, we arrived<MG2658> at Ptolemais<MG4424>, and after greeting<MG782> the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters,</i> we stayed<MG3306> with them for a day<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>On the next<MG1887> day<MG1887> we left<MG1831> and came<MG2064> to Caesarea<MG2542>, and we entered<MG1525> the house<MG3624> of Philip<MG5376> the evangelist<MG2099>, who was one of the seven<MG2033>, and stayed<MG3306> with him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> this<MG3778> man<MG3778> had<MG1510> four<MG5064> virgin<MG3933> daughters<MG2364> who were prophetesses<MG4395>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>As we were staying<MG1961> there for some<MG4183> days<MG2250>, a prophet<MG4396> named<MG3686> Agabus<MG13> came<MG2718> down<MG2718> from Judea<MG2449>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And he came<MG2064> to us and took<MG142> Paul’s<MG3972> belt<MG2223> and bound<MG1210> his own<MG1438> feet<MG4228> and hands<MG5495>, and said<MG3004>, “This<MG3592> is<MG3592> what<MG3592> the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> says<MG3004>: ‘In<MG3779> this<MG3779> way<MG3779> the Jews<MG2453> in Jerusalem<MG2419> will bind<MG1210> the man<MG435> who<MG3739> owns<MG1510> this<MG3778> belt<MG2223> and hand<MG3860, 5495> him over<MG3860> to the Gentiles<MG1484>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>When<MG5613> we had heard<MG191> this<MG3778>, we as<MG5037> well<MG5037> as the local<MG1786> residents<MG1786> <i>began</i> begging<MG3870> him not to go<MG305> up<MG305> to Jerusalem<MG2419>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> Paul<MG3972> replied<MG611>, “What<MG5101> are you doing<MG4160>, weeping<MG2799> and breaking<MG4919> my heart<MG2588>? For I am<MG2192> ready<MG2093> not only<MG3440> to be bound<MG1210>, but even<MG2532> to die<MG599> in Jerusalem<MG2419> for the name<MG3686> of the Lord<MG2962> Jesus<MG2424>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And since he would not be persuaded<MG3982>, we became<MG2270> quiet<MG2270>, remarking<MG3004>, “The will<MG2307> of the Lord<MG2962> be done<MG1096>!” <p class="hdg">Paul in Jerusalem</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>After<MG3326> these<MG3778> days<MG2250> we got<MG1980b> ready<MG1980b> and started<MG305> on<MG305> our way<MG305> up<MG305> to Jerusalem<MG2414>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><i>Some</i> of the disciples<MG3101> from Caesarea<MG2542> also<MG2532> came<MG4905> with us, taking<MG71> us to Mnason<MG3416> of<MG2953> Cyprus<MG2953>, a disciple<MG3101> of long<MG744> standing<MG744> with whom<MG3739> we were to stay<MG3579>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>After<MG1161> we arrived<MG1096> in Jerusalem<MG2414>, the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters</i> received<MG588> us gladly<MG780>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And the following<MG1897> day Paul<MG3972> went<MG1524> in<MG1524> with us to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>James<MG2385>, and all<MG3956> the elders<MG4245> were present<MG3854>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>After he had greeted<MG782> them, he <i>began</i> to relate<MG1834> one<MG1520> by one<MG1520> the things which<MG3739> God<MG2316> had done<MG4160> among<MG1722> the Gentiles<MG1484> through<MG1223> his ministry<MG1248>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And when they heard<MG191> <i>about them,</i> they <i>began</i> glorifying<MG1392> God<MG2316>; and they said<MG3004> to him, “You see<MG2334>, brother<MG80>, how<MG4214> many<MG4214> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>thousands<MG3461> there are among<MG1722> the Jews<MG2453> of those<MG3588> who have believed<MG4100>, and they are all<MG3956> zealous<MG2207> for the Law<MG3551>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>and they have been told<MG2727> about<MG4012> you, that you are teaching<MG1321> all<MG3956> the Jews<MG2453> who are among<MG2596> the Gentiles<MG1484> to abandon<MG646> Moses<MG3475>, telling<MG3004> them not to circumcise<MG4059> their children<MG5043> nor<MG3366> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>walk<MG4043> according to the customs<MG1485>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>So<MG3767> what<MG5101> is <i>to be done?</i> They will certainly<MG3843> hear<MG191> that you have come<MG2064>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767>, do<MG4160> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>as we tell<MG3004> you: we have four<MG5064> men<MG435> who have a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>vow<MG2171> upon themselves; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>take<MG3880> them along<MG3880> and purify<MG48> yourself together<MG4862> with them, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>pay<MG1159> their expenses<MG1159> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> they may shave<MG3587b> their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>heads<MG2776>; and <i>then</i> everyone<MG3956> will know<MG1097> that there is nothing<MG3762> to what<MG3739> they have been told<MG2727> about<MG4012> you, but that you yourself<MG846> also<MG2532> conform<MG4748>, keeping<MG5442> the Law<MG3551>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But regarding<MG4012> the Gentiles<MG1484> who have believed<MG4100>, we sent<MG1989> a<MG1989> letter<MG1989>, having decided<MG2919> that they should abstain<MG5442> from <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>meat<MG3588> sacrificed<MG1494> to<MG1494> idols<MG1494> and from blood<MG129> and what is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>strangled<MG4156>, and from sexual<MG4202> immorality<MG4202>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> Paul<MG3972> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>took<MG3880> along<MG3880> the men<MG435>, and the next<MG2192> day<MG2250>, after purifying<MG48> himself together<MG4862> with them, he went<MG1524> into the temple<MG2413> giving<MG1229> notice<MG1229> of the completion<MG1604> of the days<MG2250> of purification<MG49>, until<MG2193> the sacrifice<MG4376> was offered<MG4374> for each<MG1538> one<MG1520> of them. <p class="hdg">Paul Seized in the Temple</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>When<MG5613> the seven<MG2033> days<MG2250> were almost<MG3195> over<MG4931>, the Jews<MG2453> from <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Asia<MG773>, upon seeing<MG2300> him in the temple<MG2413>, <i>began</i> to stir<MG4797> up<MG4797> all<MG3956> the crowd<MG3793> and laid<MG1911> hands<MG5495> on him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>crying<MG2896> out<MG2896>, “Men<MG435> of Israel<MG2475a>, help<MG997>! This<MG3778> is the man<MG444> who instructs<MG1321> everyone<MG3956> everywhere<MG3836a> against<MG2596> our people<MG2992> and the Law<MG3551> and this<MG3778> place<MG5117>; and besides<MG2089>, he has even<MG2532> brought<MG1521> Greeks<MG1672> into the temple<MG2413> and has defiled<MG2840> this<MG3778> holy<MG40> place<MG5117>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>For they had previously<MG4308> seen<MG4308> Trophimus<MG5161> the Ephesian<MG2180> in the city<MG4172> with him, and they thought<MG3543> that Paul<MG3972> had brought<MG1521> him into the temple<MG2413>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Then<MG2532> the whole<MG3650> city<MG4172> was provoked<MG2795> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>the people<MG2992> rushed<MG4890> together<MG4890>, and taking<MG1949> hold<MG1949> of Paul<MG3972> they dragged<MG1670> him out of the temple<MG2413>, and immediately<MG2112> the doors<MG2374> were shut<MG2808>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>While they were intent<MG2212> on killing<MG615> him, a report<MG5334> came<MG305> up<MG305> to the commander<MG5506> of the <i>Roman</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>cohort<MG4686> that all<MG3650> Jerusalem<MG2419> was<MG4797> in<MG4797> confusion<MG4797>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>He immediately<MG1824> took<MG3880> along<MG3880> <i>some</i> soldiers<MG4757> and centurions<MG1543> and ran<MG2701> down<MG2701> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>the crowd; and when they saw<MG3708> the commander<MG5506> and the soldiers<MG4757>, they stopped<MG3973> beating<MG5180> Paul<MG3972>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> the commander<MG5506> came<MG1448> up<MG1448> and took<MG1949> hold<MG1949> of him, and ordered<MG2753> that he be bound<MG1210> with two<MG1417> chains<MG254>; and he <i>began</i> asking<MG4441> who<MG5101> he was and what<MG5101> he had done<MG4160>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>But among<MG1722> the crowd<MG3793>, some<MG243> were shouting<MG2019> one thing <i>and</i> some<MG243> another<MG243>, and when he could<MG1410> not find<MG1097> out<MG1097> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>facts<MG804> because<MG1223> of the uproar<MG2351>, he ordered<MG2753> that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>Paul be brought<MG71> into the barracks<MG3925b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>When<MG3753> <i>Paul</i> got<MG1096> to the stairs<MG304>, it came<MG4819> about<MG4819> that he was carried<MG941> by the soldiers<MG4757> because<MG1223> of the violence<MG970> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>mob<MG3793>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>for the multitude<MG4128> of people<MG2992> kept following<MG190> <i>them,</i> shouting<MG2896>, “Away<MG142> with him!” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/21-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>As Paul<MG3972> was<MG3195> about<MG3195> to<MG3195> be brought<MG1521> into the barracks<MG3925b>, he *said<MG3004> to the commander<MG5506>, “May<MG1832> I say<MG3004> something<MG5100> to you?” And he said<MG5346>, “Do you know<MG1097> Greek<MG1676>?
