Philip, he that hath seen me, hath seen the father; why then do you say, shew us the father? <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>don't you believe that I am in the father, and the father in me? the words that I speak unto you, I speak indeed, tho' not from my self; but as to the works, the father, who dwells in me, he is the agent. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>believe me, I am in the father, and the father in me: at least believe me upon account of the very works. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>I assure you, he that believeth on me, shall likewise perform the works that I do; nay, greater works than these shall he do; because for that end am I going to my father. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>and if in my name ye shall ask any thing of the father, whereby he may be glorified by the son, I will effect it. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>when ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.<p> <A name="16"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../john/16.htm#5">John 16:5–16</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>if ye love me, keep my commandments.<p> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>and I will pray the father, and he shall give you another advocate, to abide with you for ever; <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees nor knows him: but ye shall know him, for he shall dwell with you, and shall be in you.<p> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>I will not leave you orphans; I will come again to you. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more: but ye shall see me: because I shall live again, and ye shall live also. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>then shall you know, that I am in my father, and you in me, and I in you. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>he that hath received my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me, shall be beloved by my father, and I will love him, and shew my self unto him. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, why Lord, will you show your self to us, and not to the world? <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Jesus answered him, he that loves me, will observe my precepts: and my father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>he does not love me, who does not observe my precepts: for the doctrine which you have heard, is not mine, but the father's who sent me.<p> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>this is what I have to tell you, for the little time that I am with you. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>but the advocate, the holy spirit, whom the father will send for my sake, he will explain every thing to you, and make you remember, all that I have told you.<p> <A name="28"></a><p class="hdg">Peace I Leave with You<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/14-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>I bid you farewell!
