This was at a higher level as part of the crossing of the Manchester Ship Canal to the east of here. Superb murals, commemorating Irlam's rich railway history, are displayed on the brickwork and a levelled area of the trackbed has been incorporated into a small linear park with, of all things, a 'Hobbit House'. Passenger services ended in 1930 but goods traffic continued to be handled until 1965, served from the Coldstream end of the line. By 1970 the platforms had been infilled, and a fair section of the wooden porch which graced the front of the building had been removed, but otherwise it was in fair order and still remained so as a private residence on my last visit some years ago.
