And nothing<MH3808> with<MH2557> yeast<MH2557> shall be eaten<MH398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>On this day<MH3117> in the month<MH2320> of Abib<MH24>, you are about to go<MH3318> out<MH3318> <i>from here.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And it shall be when<MH3588> the LORD<MH3068> brings<MH935> you to the land<MH776> of the Canaanite<MH3669a>, the Hittite<MH2850>, the Amorite<MH567>, the Hivite<MH2340>, and the Jebusite<MH2983>, which<MH834> He swore<MH7650> to your fathers<MH1> to give<MH5414> you, a land<MH776> flowing<MH2100> with milk<MH2461> and honey<MH1706>, that you shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>perform<MH5647> this<MH2088> rite<MH5656> in this<MH2088> month<MH2320>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>For seven<MH7651> days<MH3117> you shall eat<MH398> unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682>, and on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117> there shall be a feast<MH2282> to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Unleavened<MH4682> bread<MH4682> shall be eaten<MH398> throughout the seven<MH7651> days<MH3117>; and nothing<MH3808> with<MH2557> yeast<MH2557> shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>be seen<MH7200> among you, nor<MH3808> shall any dough<MH7603> with<MH7603> yeast<MH7603> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>be seen<MH7200> among you in all<MH3605> your borders<MH1366>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And you shall tell<MH5046> your son<MH1121> on that day<MH3117>, saying<MH559>, ‘<i>It is</i> because<MH5668> of what<MH2088> the LORD<MH3068> did<MH6213a> for me when I came<MH3318> out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And it shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>serve<MH1961> as a sign<MH226> to you on your hand<MH3027>, and as a reminder<MH2146> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>on your forehead<MH996, 5869>, that the law<MH8451> of the LORD<MH3068> may be in your mouth<MH6310>; for with a powerful<MH2389> hand<MH3027> the LORD<MH3068> brought<MH3318> you out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Therefore, you shall keep<MH8104> this<MH2088> ordinance<MH2708> at its appointed<MH4150> time<MH4150> from <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>year<MH3117> to year<MH3117>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“Now when<MH3588> the LORD<MH3068> brings<MH935> you to the land<MH776> of the Canaanite<MH3669a>, as He swore<MH7650> to you and to your fathers<MH1>, and gives<MH5414> it to you, <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>you shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>devote<MH5674a> to the LORD<MH3068> every<MH3605> firstborn<MH6363a> of a womb<MH7358>, and every<MH3605> firstborn<MH6363a> offspring<MH7698> of an animal<MH929> that you own<MH1961>; the males<MH2145> belong to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But every<MH3605> firstborn<MH6363a> of a donkey<MH2543> you shall redeem<MH6299> with a lamb<MH7716>, but if<MH518> you do not redeem<MH6299> <i>it,</i> then you shall break<MH6202> its neck<MH6202>; and every<MH3605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>firstborn<MH1060> among your sons<MH1121> you shall redeem<MH6299>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And it shall be when<MH3588> your son<MH1121> asks<MH7592> you in<MH4279> time<MH4279> to<MH4279> come<MH4279>, saying<MH559>, ‘What<MH4100> is this<MH2088>?’ then you shall say<MH559> to him, ‘With <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>a powerful<MH2392> hand<MH3027> the LORD<MH3068> brought<MH3318> us out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>, from the house<MH1004> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>slavery<MH5650>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And it came<MH1961> about<MH1961>, when<MH3588> Pharaoh<MH6547> was<MH7185> stubborn<MH7185> about letting<MH7971> us go<MH7971>, that the LORD<MH3068> put<MH2026> to<MH2026> death<MH2026> every<MH3605> firstborn<MH1060> in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, from human<MH120> firstborns<MH1060> to animal<MH929> firstborns<MH1060>. Therefore<MH5921, 3651>, I sacrifice<MH2076> to the LORD<MH3068> the males<MH2145>, every<MH3605> firstborn<MH1060> of a womb<MH7358>, but every<MH3605> firstborn<MH1060> of my sons<MH1121> I redeem<MH6299>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>So it shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>serve<MH1961> as a sign<MH226> on your hand<MH3027> and as <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>phylacteries<MH2903> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>on your forehead<MH996, 5869>, for with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>a powerful<MH2392> hand<MH3027> the LORD<MH3068> brought<MH3318> us out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>.” <p class="hdg">God Leads the People</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Now when Pharaoh<MH6547> had let<MH7971> the people<MH5971a> go<MH7971>, God<MH430> did not lead<MH5148> them by the way<MH1870> of the land<MH776> of the Philistines<MH6430>, even<MH3588> though<MH3588> it was near<MH7138>; for God<MH430> said<MH559>, “The people<MH5971a> might<MH6435> change<MH5162> their minds<MH5162> when they see<MH7200> war<MH4421>, and return<MH7725> to Egypt<MH4714>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/13-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Therefore God<MH430> led<MH5437> the people<MH5971a> around<MH5437> by way<MH1870> of the wilderness<MH4057b> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>Red<MH5488> Sea<MH3220>;
