In FPPW process, a tapered shaped plug is rotated at high speed and forced into a tapered hole in the substrate. The plug and substrate metal is softened by the increasing temperature generated by friction and material plastic deformation. This paper aims to investigate the effect of process parameters on the quality of the weld. Orthogonal design methods were employed to reduce the amount of experiment. Three values were selected for each process parameter, rotation speed (1500r/min, 2000r/min, 2500r/min), plunge depth (2mm, 3mm, 4mm) and plunge speed (60mm/min, 90mm/min, 120r/min). AA6061aluminum alloy plug and substrate plate was used in the experiment. In a trial test with the plunge depth of 1mm, a noticeable defect appeared due to the short plunge time and insufficient temperature. From the recorded temperature profiles, it was found that the peak temperature increased with the increase of the rotation speed, plunge speed and plunge depth. In the initial stage, the plunge speed was the main factor affecting heat generation, while in the steady state welding stage, the rotation speed played a more important role. The FPPW weld defect includes flash and incomplete penetration in the upper, middle and bottom interface with the substrate. To obtain defect free weld, the higher rotation speed and proper plunge depth were recommended. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=friction%20push%20plug%20welding" title="friction push plug welding">friction push plug welding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process%20parameter" title=" process parameter"> process parameter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weld%20defect" title=" weld defect"> weld defect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=orthogonal%20design" title=" orthogonal design"> orthogonal design</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96583/process-parameter-study-on-friction-push-plug-welding-of-aa6061-alloy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96583.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2931</span> Influences of Plunge Speed on Axial Force and Temperature of Friction Stir Spot Welding in Thin Aluminum A1100</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Suwarsono">Suwarsono</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ario%20S.%20Baskoro"> Ario S. In some cases on aluminum joining, FSW gives better results compared with the arc welding processes, including the quality of welds and produces less distortion.FSW welding process for a light structure and thin materials requires small forces as possible, to avoid structure deflection. The joining process on FSW occurs because of melting temperature and compressive forces, the temperature generation of caused by material deformation and friction between the cutting tool and material. In this research, High speed rotation of spindle was expected to reduce the force required for deformation. The welding material was Aluminum A1100, with thickness of 0.4 mm. The tool was made of HSS material which was shaped by micro grinding process. Tool shoulder diameter is 4 mm, and the length of pin was 0.6 mm (with pin diameter= 1.5 mm). The parameters that varied were the plunge speed (2 mm/min, 3 mm/min, 4 mm/min). The tool speed is fixed at 33,000 rpm. Responses of FSSW parameters to analyze were Axial Force (Z-Force), Temperature and the Shear Strength of welds. Research found the optimum µFSSW parameters, it can be concluded that the most important parameters in the μFSSW process was plunge speed. lowest plunge speed (2 mm / min) causing the lowest axial force (110.40 Newton). The increases of plunge speed will increase the axial force (maximum Z-Farce= 236.03 Newton), and decrease the shear strength of welds. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=friction%20stir%20spot%20welding" title="friction stir spot welding">friction stir spot welding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aluminum%20A1100" title=" aluminum A1100"> aluminum A1100</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plunge%20speed" title=" plunge speed"> plunge speed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=axial%20force" title=" axial force"> axial force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20strength" title=" shear strength"> shear strength</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55161/influences-of-plunge-speed-on-axial-force-and-temperature-of-friction-stir-spot-welding-in-thin-aluminum-a1100" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55161.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">310</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2930</span> Reliability Assessment of Various Empirical Formulas for Prediction of Scour Hole Depth (Plunge Pool) Using a Comprehensive Physical Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Majid%20Galoie">Majid Galoie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khodadad%20Safavi"> Khodadad Safavi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdolreza%20Karami%20Nejad"> Abdolreza Karami Nejad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reza%20Roshan"> Reza Roshan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, a comprehensive scouring model has been developed in order to evaluate the accuracy of various empirical relationships which were suggested for prediction of scour hole depth in plunge pools by Martins, Mason, Chian and Veronese. Intermittency is characterized by the presence of sporadic bursts of high amplitude oscillations interspersed amidst low-amplitude aperiodic fluctuations. The focus of this study is on investigating the energy harvesting potential of these intermittent oscillations. Available literature has by and large devoted its attention on extracting energy from flutter oscillations. The possibility of harvesting energy from pre-flutter regimes have remained largely unexplored. However, extracting energy from violent flutter oscillations can be severely detrimental to the structural integrity of airfoil structures. Consequently, investigating the relatively stable pre-flutter responses for energy extraction applications is of practical importance. The present study is devoted towards addressing these concerns. A pitch-plunge airfoil with cubic hardening nonlinearity in the plunge and pitch degree of freedom is considered. The input flow fluctuations are modelled using a sinusoidal term with randomly perturbed frequencies. An electromagnetic coupling is provided to the pitch-plunge equations, such that, energy from the wind induced vibrations of the structural response are extracted. With the mean flow speed as the bifurcation parameter, a fourth order Runge-Kutta based time marching algorithm is used to solve the governing aeroelastic equations with electro-magnetic coupling. The harnessed energy from the intermittency regime is presented and the results are discussed in comparison to that obtained from the flutter regime. The insights from this study could be useful in health monitoring of aeroelastic structures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aeroelasticity" title="aeroelasticity">aeroelasticity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20harvesting" title=" energy harvesting"> energy harvesting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intermittency" title=" intermittency"> intermittency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=randomly%20fluctuating%20flows" title=" randomly fluctuating flows"> randomly fluctuating flows</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80463/investigating-the-energy-harvesting-potential-of-a-pitch-plunge-airfoil-subjected-to-fluctuating-wind" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80463.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">186</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2928</span> Optimization of Flip Bucket Dents in Order to Reduce Scour Hole Depth (Plunge Pool) Using a Comprehensive Physical Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Majid%20Galoie">Majid Galoie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khodadad%20Safavi"> Khodadad Safavi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdolreza%20Karami%20Nejad"> Abdolreza Karami Nejad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reza%20Roshan"> Reza Roshan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Scour downstream of a flip bucket in a plunge pool is caused by impingement of water jet force. The minimum scour hole depth might be occurred by optimization of dents (number, shape, placement) on flip buckets. In this study, a comprehensive physical model has been developed and various options for dents have been investigated. The experimental data for each dent option such as scour hole depth, angle of impingement jet, piezometric pressure in tail-water and jet trajectory have been measured for various discharges. The inlet velocity of the flow is modelled as a stochastically varying parameter by the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (OU) stochastic process. The system is a 2D airfoil, and the elastic problem is simulated using linear springs. We study the manifestation of Limit Cycle Oscillations (LCO) that correspond to the varying fluid velocity under the dynamic stall regime. We aim to delve into the unexplored facets of the classical pitch-plunge aeroelastic system, seeking a comprehensive understanding of how parametric noise influences the occurrence of LCO and expands the boundaries of its known behavior. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aerodynamics" title="aerodynamics">aerodynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aeroelasticity" title=" aeroelasticity"> aeroelasticity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20mechanics" title=" computational fluid mechanics"> computational fluid mechanics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stall%20flutter" title=" stall flutter"> stall flutter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastical%20processes" title=" stochastical processes"> stochastical processes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=limit%20cycle%20oscillation" title=" limit cycle oscillation"> limit cycle oscillation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179303/stochastic-response-of-an-airfoil-and-its-effects-on-limit-cycle-oscillations-behavior-under-stall-flutter-regime" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179303.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">62</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2926</span> Characteristics of Speed Dispersion in Urban Expressway</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fujian%20Wang">Fujian Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shubin%20Ruan"> Shubin Ruan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meiwei%20Dai"> Meiwei Dai</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Speed dispersion has tight relation to traffic safety. Their relationships are into full investigations and the results show that: there exists a positive relation (linear) between mean speed and the deviation of V85 and V15; while a negative relation (quadratic) between traffic flow and standard speed deviation. The mean speed deviation grows exponentially with mean speed while the absolute speed deviation between adjacent cars grows linearly with the headway. Complex polymer components consist of assemblies of smaller parts which can be joined by friction stir welding. This study deals with the additive friction stir welding of 15 wt.% glass fiber reinforced polyamide 66 composite which is a modified technique of the conventional friction stir welding by the addition of a filler plate for the heating of the composite work piece through the tool during the welding process. Welding at different combinations of tool rotational speed, travel speed and tool plunge depth was done after which the tensile strength of the respective experiments was determined. The maximum tensile strength obtained was 77 MPa which was 80% of the strength of the base material. The process parameters were optimized using the L9 orthogonal array and also the effect of individual welding parameter on the tensile strength was studied. The optimum parameter combination was determined with the help of ANOVA studies. The hardness of the welded joints was studied with the help of Shore Durometer which yielded the maximum of D 75. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20friction%20stir%20welding" title="additive friction stir welding">additive friction stir welding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyamide%2066" title=" polyamide 66"> polyamide 66</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process%20parameters" title=" process parameters"> process parameters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoplastic%20polymer%20composite" title=" thermoplastic polymer composite"> thermoplastic polymer composite</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85047/investigation-on-the-effect-of-welding-parameters-in-additive-friction-stir-welding-of-glass-fiber-reinforced-polyamide-66-composite" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85047.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">159</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2924</span> Speed Characteristics of Mixed Traffic Flow on Urban Arterials</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashish%20Dhamaniya">Ashish Dhamaniya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Satish%20Chandra"> Satish Chandra</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Speed and traffic volume data are collected on different sections of four lane and six lane roads in three metropolitan cities in India. It is noted that speed data of individual vehicle generally follows a normal distribution but speed data of all vehicle combined at a section of urban road may or may not follow the normal distribution depending upon the composition of traffic stream. A new term Speed Spread Ratio (SSR) is introduced in this paper which is the ratio of difference in 85th and 50th percentile speed to the difference in 50th and 15th percentile speed. If SSR is unity then speed data are truly normally distributed. It is noted that on six lane urban roads, speed data follow a normal distribution only when SSR is in the range of 0.86 – 1.11. The data corresponds to 20 drivers of different ages and driving experiences, driving their own cars along an 18 km long section of a state road. The data were first used for determination of maximum operating speeds on tangents and their comparison with speeds in the middle of tangents i.e. speed data used in most of operating speed studies. Analysis of continuous speed data indicated that the spot speed data are not reliable indicators of relevant speeds. After that, operating speed models for tangent sections were developed. There was no significant difference between models developed using speed data in the middle of tangent sections and models developed using maximum operating speeds on tangent sections. All developed models have higher coefficient of determination then models developed on spot speed data. Thus, it can be concluded that the method of measuring has more significant impact on the quality of operating speed model than the location of measurement. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=operating%20speed" title="operating speed">operating speed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuous%20speed%20data" title=" continuous speed data"> continuous speed data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tangent%20sections" title=" tangent sections"> tangent sections</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spot%20speed" title=" spot speed"> spot speed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=consistency" title=" consistency"> consistency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31508/operating-speed-models-on-tangent-sections-of-two-lane-rural-roads" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31508.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">452</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2921</span> Smart Speed Bump</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Rahmani%20Rezaiyeh">Mohammad Rahmani Rezaiyeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mojtaba%20Rahmani%20Rezaiyeh"> Mojtaba Rahmani Rezaiyeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehrdad%20Rahmani%20Rezaiyeh"> Mehrdad Rahmani Rezaiyeh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Smart speed bump is a new invention and I am invented it. FSSW parameters such as tool rotational speed, plunge depth, shoulder diameter of the welding tool and dwell time play the major role in determining the shear strength of the joints. The effect of these four parameters on FSSW process as well as the shear strength of the welded joints was studied via five levels of each parameter. Taguchi method was used to minimize the number of experiments required to determine the fracture load of the friction stir spot-welded joints by incorporating independently controllable FSSW parameters. Taguchi analysis was applied to optimize the FSSW parameters to attain the maximum shear strength of the spot weld for this type of aluminum alloy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Friction%20Stir%20Spot%20Welding" title="Friction Stir Spot Welding">Friction Stir Spot Welding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Al6061%20alloy" title=" Al6061 alloy"> Al6061 alloy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shear%20Strength" title=" Shear Strength"> Shear Strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FSSW%20process%20parameters" title=" FSSW process parameters "> FSSW process parameters </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21231/optimization-of-friction-stir-spot-welding-process-parameters-for-joining-6061-aluminum-alloy-using-taguchi-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21231.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">432</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2919</span> The Role of Speed Reduction Model in Urban Highways Tunnels Accidents</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khashayar%20Kazemzadeh">Khashayar Kazemzadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Hanif%20Dasoomi"> Mohammad Hanif Dasoomi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> According to the increasing travel demand in cities, bridges and tunnels are viewed as one of the fundamental components of cities transportation systems. Field data for the study was collected at different straight and curved sections on rural highways with the help of radar speed gun and video camera. The data collected at the sections were analysed and parameters pertain to speed distributions were estimated. The different statistical distribution was analysed on vehicle type speed data and for mixed traffic speed data. It was found that vehicle type speed data was either follows the normal distribution or Log-normal distribution, whereas the mixed traffic speed data follows more than one type of statistical distribution. The most common fit observed on mixed traffic speed data were Beta distribution and Weibull distribution. The separate operating speed model based on traffic and roadway geometric parameters were proposed in the present study. The operating speed model with traffic parameters and curve geometry parameters were established. Two different operating speed models were proposed with variables 1/R and Ln(R) and were found to be realistic with a different range of curve radius. The models developed in the present study are simple and realistic and can be used for forecasting operating speed on four-lane highways. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=highway" title="highway">highway</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20traffic%20flow" title=" mixed traffic flow"> mixed traffic flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modeling" title=" modeling"> modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=operating%20speed" title=" operating speed"> operating speed</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33813/analysis-of-operating-speed-on-four-lane-divided-highways-under-mixed-traffic-conditions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33813.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">460</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2917</span> Stereo Camera Based Speed-Hump Detection Process for Real Time Driving Assistance System in the Daytime</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyun-Koo%20Kim">Hyun-Koo Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yong-Hun%20Kim"> Yong-Hun Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soo-Young%20Suk"> Soo-Young Suk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ju%20H.%20Park"> Ju H. Design consistency of the highways is checked based on the variation in the operating speed. Often the design consistency fails to meet the driver’s expectation which results in the difference between operating and design speed. Literature reviews have shown that significant crashes take place in horizontal curves due to lack of design consistency. The paper focuses on continuous speed profile study on tangent to curve transition for both day and night daytime. Data is collected using GPS device which gives continuous speed profile and other parameters such as acceleration, deceleration were analyzed along with Tangent to Curve Transition. In this present study, models were developed to predict operating speed on tangents and horizontal curves as well as model indicating the speed reduction from tangent to curve based on continuous speed profile data. It is observed from the study that vehicle tends to decelerate from approach tangent to between beginning of the curve and midpoint of the curve and then accelerates from curve to tangent transition. The models generated were compared for both day and night and can be used in the road safety improvement by evaluating the geometric design consistency. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=operating%20speed" title="operating speed">operating speed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20consistency" title=" design consistency"> design consistency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuous%20speed%20profile%20data" title=" continuous speed profile data"> continuous speed profile data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=day%20and%20night%20time" title=" day and night time"> day and night time</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81501/comparative-operating-speed-and-speed-differential-day-and-night-time-models-for-two-lane-rural-highways" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81501.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2915</span> Speed Optimization Model for Reducing Fuel Consumption Based on Shipping Log Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayudhia%20P.%20Gusti">Ayudhia P. How to reduce the fuel cost of ship so that the operational costs of fuel can be minimized is the question that arises. As the basis of these kinds of problem, sailing speed determination is an important factor to be considered by a shipping company. Optimal speed determination will give a significant influence on the route and berth schedule of ships, which also affect vessel operating costs. The purpose of this paper is to clarify some important issues about ship speed optimization. Sailing speed, displacement, sailing time, and specific fuel consumption were obtained from shipping log data to be further analyzed for modeling the speed optimization. The presented speed optimization model is expected to affect the fuel consumption and to reduce the cost of fuel consumption. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maritime%20transportation" title="maritime transportation">maritime transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reducing%20fuel" title=" reducing fuel"> reducing fuel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shipping%20log%20data" title=" shipping log data"> shipping log data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speed%20optimization" title=" speed optimization"> speed optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61808/speed-optimization-model-for-reducing-fuel-consumption-based-on-shipping-log-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61808.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">568</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2914</span> Empirical Investigations on Speed Differentiations of Traffic Flow: A Case Study on a Basic Freeway Segment of O-2 in Istanbul</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamed%20Rashid%20Sarand">Hamed Rashid Sarand</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kemal%20Sel%C3%A7uk%20%C3%96%C4%9F%C3%BCt"> Kemal Selçuk Öğüt</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Speed is one of the fundamental variables of road traffic flow that stands as an important evaluation criterion for traffic analyses in several aspects. In particular, varieties of speed variable, such as average speed, free flow speed, optimum speed (capacity speed), acceleration/deceleration speed and so on, have been explicitly considered in the analysis of not only road safety but also road capacity. In the purpose of realizing 'road speed – maximum speed difference across lanes' and 'road flow rate – maximum speed difference across lanes' relations on freeway traffic, this study presents a case study conducted on a basic freeway segment of O-2 in Istanbul. The traffic data employed in this study have been obtained from 5 remote traffic microwave sensors operated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The study stretch is located between two successive freeway interchanges: Ümraniye and Kavacık. Daily traffic data of 4 years (2011-2014) summer months, July and August are used. The speed data are analyzed into two main flow areas such as uncongested and congested flows. In this study, the regression analyses were carried out in order to examine the relationship between maximum speed difference across lanes and road speed. These investigations were implemented at uncongested and congested flows, separately. Moreover, the relationship between maximum speed difference across lanes and road flow rate were evaluated by applying regression analyses for both uncongested and congested flows separately. It is concluded that there is the moderate relationship between maximum speed difference across lanes and road speed in 50% cases. Additionally, it is indicated that there is the moderate relationship between maximum speed difference across lanes and road flow rate in 30% cases. The maximum speed difference across lanes decreases as the road flow rate increases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maximum%20speed%20difference" title="maximum speed difference">maximum speed difference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regression%20analysis" title=" regression analysis"> regression analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20traffic%20microwave%20sensor" title=" remote traffic microwave sensor"> remote traffic microwave sensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speed%20differentiation" title=" speed differentiation"> speed differentiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=traffic%20flow" title=" traffic flow "> traffic flow </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36794/empirical-investigations-on-speed-differentiations-of-traffic-flow-a-case-study-on-a-basic-freeway-segment-of-o-2-in-istanbul" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36794.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">367</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2913</span> High-Speed Electrical Drives and Applications: A Review</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vaishnavi%20Patil">Vaishnavi Patil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=K.%20M.%20Kurundkar"> K. Adapted different vehicle technologies like connectivity and automation on the same roads with conventional vehicles controlled by human drivers may increase speed disparity in mixed vehicle technologies. Identifying relationships between speed distribution measures of different vehicles and road geometry can be an indicator of speed disparity in mixed technologies. Previous studies proved that speed disparity measures and traffic accidents are inextricably related. Horizontal curves from three geographic areas were selected based on relevant criteria, and speed data were collected at the midpoint of the preceding tangent and starting, ending, and middle point of the curve. Multiple linear mixed effect models (LME) were developed using the instantaneous speed measures representing the speed of vehicles at different points of horizontal curves to recognize relationships between speed variance (standard deviation) and road geometry. A simulation-based framework (Monte Carlo) was introduced to check the speed disparity on horizontal curves in mixed vehicle technologies when consideration is given to the interactions among connected vehicles (CVs), autonomous vehicles (AVs), and non-connected vehicles (NCVs) on horizontal curves. The Monte Carlo method was used in the simulation to randomly sample values for the various parameters from their respective distributions. Theresults show that NCVs had higher speed variation than CVs and AVs. In addition, AVs and CVs contributed to reduce speed disparity in the mixed vehicle technologies in any penetration rates. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=autonomous%20vehicles" title="autonomous vehicles">autonomous vehicles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=connected%20vehicles" title=" connected vehicles"> connected vehicles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-connected%20vehicles" title=" non-connected vehicles"> non-connected vehicles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speed%20variance" title=" speed variance"> speed variance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147447/analyzing-of-speed-disparity-in-mixed-vehicle-technologies-on-horizontal-curves" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147447.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">145</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2910</span> Effect of Traffic Volume and Its Composition on Vehicular Speed under Mixed Traffic Conditions: A Kriging Based Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Subhadip%20Biswas">Subhadip Biswas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shivendra%20Maurya"> Shivendra Maurya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Satish%20Chandra"> Satish Chandra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Indrajit%20Ghosh"> Indrajit Ghosh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Use of speed prediction models sometimes appears as a feasible alternative to laborious field measurement particularly, in case when field data cannot fulfill designer’s requirements. However, developing speed models is a challenging task specifically in the context of developing countries like India where vehicles with diverse static and dynamic characteristics use the same right of way without any segregation. Here the traffic composition plays a significant role in determining the vehicular speed. The present research was carried out to examine the effects of traffic volume and its composition on vehicular speed under mixed traffic conditions. Classified traffic volume and speed data were collected from different geometrically identical six lane divided arterials in New Delhi. Based on these field data, speed prediction models were developed for individual vehicle category adopting Kriging approximation technique, an alternative for commonly used regression. These models are validated with the data set kept aside earlier for validation purpose. The predicted speeds showed a great deal of agreement with the observed values and also the model outperforms all other existing speed models. In this strategy of control, we also combined the method Fuzzy MRAS to estimate the rotor speed and the observer type Luenburger to observe Rotor flux. The control model involves a division by the flux variable that may lead to unbounded solutions. Such a risk is avoided by basing the controller design on Lyapunov function that accounts for the model singularity. On the other hand, this mixed method gives better results in Sensorless operation and especially at low speed. The response time at 5% of the flux is 20ms while the error between the speed with sensor and the estimated speed remains in the range of ±0.8 rad/s for the rated functioning and ±1.5 rad/s for low speed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=backstepping%20approach" title="backstepping approach">backstepping approach</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20logic" title=" fuzzy logic"> fuzzy logic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=induction%20motor" title=" induction motor"> induction motor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=luenburger%20observer" title=" luenburger observer"> luenburger observer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensorless%20MRAS" title=" sensorless MRAS"> sensorless MRAS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40200/sensorless-controller-of-induction-motor-using-backstepping-approach-and-fuzzy-mras" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40200.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">373</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2908</span> Creative Self-efficacy and Innovation Speed of New Ventures: The Mediating Role of Entrepreneurial Bricolage</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yi-Wen%20Chen">Yi-Wen Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hsueh-Liang%20Fan"> Hsueh-Liang Fan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Evidence shows that start-ups success is positively correlated with innovation speed. This study accentuates the role of entrepreneurial bricolage, which defined as making do by applying combinations of the resources at hand to new problems and opportunities, in the relations of creative self-efficacy and innovation speed. This study uses structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses in a sample of 203 start-ups operating various creative markets. Speed control is expected to reduce the energy consumption of belt conveyors. Transient operation is the operation of increasing or decreasing conveyor speed for speed control. According to literature review, current research rarely takes the conveyor dynamics in transient operation into account. However, in belt conveyor speed control, the conveyor dynamic behaviors are significantly important since the poor dynamics might result in risks. In this paper, the potential risks in transient operation will be analyzed. An existing finite element model will be applied to build a conveyor model, and simulations will be carried out to analyze the conveyor dynamics. In order to realize the soft speed regulation, Harrison’s sinusoid acceleration profile will be applied, and Lodewijks estimator will be built to approximate the required acceleration time.
