<A name="11"></a><a href="/luke/22-10.htm">10</a>And He said unto them, <FR>Behold, when ye are come into the city, there shall meet you a man, carrying a pitcher of water, follow him into the house where he entreth:<Fr> <A name="12"></a><a href="/luke/22-11.htm">11</a><FR>and say to the master of the house, <Fr>Our<FR> Master inquireth <Fr>by us,<FR> Where is the room, in which I may eat the passover with my disciples?<Fr> <A name="13"></a><a href="/luke/22-12.htm">12</a><FR>And he will shew you a large upper room set out; there make <Fr>it<FR> ready.<Fr> <A name="14"></a><a href="/luke/22-13.htm">13</a>And they went and found as He had told them; and prepared the passover. <A name="15"></a>The Last Supper (<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#20">Matthew 26:20–30</a>; <a href ="../mark/14.htm#17">Mark 14:17–26</a>; <a href ="../1_corinthians/11.htm#17">1 Corinthians 11:17–34</a>)<a href="/luke/22-14.htm">14</a>And when the hour was come, He sat down and the twelve apostles with Him. <A name="16"></a><a href="/luke/22-15.htm">15</a>And He said unto them, <FR>I have earnestly desired to eat of this passover with you before I suffer:<Fr> <A name="17"></a><a href="/luke/22-16.htm">16</a><FR>for I say unto you, that I will not eat of it any more, till it be accomplished in the kingdom of God.<Fr> <A name="18"></a><a href="/luke/22-17.htm">17</a>And taking the cup He gave thanks and said, <FR>Take this and distribute <Fr>it<FR> among yourselves.<Fr> <A name="19"></a><a href="/luke/22-18.htm">18</a><FR>For I tell you, that I will not drink <Fr>again<FR> of the fruit of the vine, till the kingdom of God shall come.<Fr> <A name="20"></a><a href="/luke/22-19.htm">19</a>And He took bread, and gave thanks and brake it, and gave it to them, saying, <FR>This is my body <Fr>which is<FR> given for you; do this in remembrance of me:<Fr> <A name="21"></a><a href="/luke/22-20.htm">20</a>as also the cup after supper, saying, <FR>This cup <Fr>represents<FR> the new covenant in my blood, <Fr>which is<FR> shed for you.<Fr> <A name="22"></a><a href="/luke/22-21.htm">21</a><FR>And yet behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me <Fr>is<FR> at table with me:<Fr> <A name="23"></a><a href="/luke/22-22.htm">22</a><FR>and the Son of man is going indeed as <Fr>was<FR> determined; but wo to that man by whom He is betrayed.<Fr> <A name="24"></a><a href="/luke/22-23.htm">23</a>And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do it. <A name="25"></a>Who Is the Greatest?<a href="/luke/22-24.htm">24</a>And there was also a dispute among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest: <A name="26"></a><a href="/luke/22-25.htm">25</a>but He said unto them, <FR>The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority are called benefactors.<Fr> <A name="27"></a><a href="/luke/22-26.htm">26</a><FR>But ye <Fr>shall<FR> not <Fr>do<FR> so: but let the greatest among you be as the younger; and he that presides as he that serveth.<Fr> <A name="28"></a><a href="/luke/22-27.htm">27</a><FR>For which is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? <Fr>is<FR> not he that sitteth at table? but I am among you as one that serveth.<Fr> <A name="29"></a><a href="/luke/22-28.htm">28</a><FR>Ye have continued with me in my temptations;<Fr> <A name="30"></a><a href="/luke/22-29.htm">29</a><FR>and I appoint you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me:<Fr> <A name="31"></a><a href="/luke/22-30.htm">30</a><FR>that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit upon thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.<Fr> <A name="32"></a>Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial (<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#31">Matthew 26:31–35</a>; <a href ="../mark/14.htm#27">Mark 14:27–31</a>; <a href ="../john/13.htm#36">John 13:36–38</a>)<a href="/luke/22-31.htm">31</a>And the Lord said, <FR>Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired <Fr>to have<FR> you <Fr>my disciples,<FR> that he may sift <Fr>you<FR> as wheat:<Fr> <A name="33"></a><a href="/luke/22-32.htm">32</a><FR>but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith may not fail; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.<Fr> <A name="34"></a><a href="/luke/22-33.htm">33</a>And he said unto Him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee both to prison and to death. <A name="35"></a><a href="/luke/22-34.htm">34</a>But He replied, <FR>I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before thou hast thrice denied that thou knowest me.<Fr> <A name="36"></a><a href="/luke/22-35.htm">35</a>And He said unto them, <FR>When I sent you forth without purse, or bag, or shoes, did ye want any <Fr>thing? and they said, Nothing. <A name="37"></a><a href="/luke/22-36.htm">36</a>Then said He unto them, <FR>But now let him, that hath a purse, take it, and <Fr>his<FR> bag likewise; and let him that has no sword, sell his garment and buy <Fr>one: <A name="38"></a><a href="/luke/22-37.htm">37</a><FR>for I tell you, that this <Fr>which is<FR> written must yet be accomplished in me, "And He was numbered with transgressors," for the things <Fr>foretold<FR> concerning me are <Fr>near at<FR> an end.<Fr> <A name="39"></a><a href="/luke/22-38.htm">38</a>And they said, Lord, behold here are two swords. And Peter followed at a distance. <A name="56"></a><a href="/luke/22-55.htm">55</a>And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and sat down together, Peter also sat down among them: <A name="57"></a><a href="/luke/22-56.htm">56</a>and a servant-maid seeing him as he sat by the fire, and looking hard at him, said, This fellow was also with Him: <A name="58"></a><a href="/luke/22-57.htm">57</a>But he denied Him, saying, Woman, I do not know Him. <A name="59"></a><a href="/luke/22-58.htm">58</a>And after a little while another person seeing him said, And thou art one of them: but Peter said, Man, I am not. <A name="60"></a><a href="/luke/22-59.htm">59</a>And about an hour after, another confidently affirmed saying, In truth this fellow also was with Him; for he is a Galilean too: but Peter answered, <A name="61"></a><a href="/luke/22-60.htm">60</a>Man, I know not what thou sayst. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crew. <A name="62"></a><a href="/luke/22-61.htm">61</a>And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter; and Peter called to mind the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, <FR>Before the cock crow thou wilt deny me thrice.<Fr> <A name="63"></a><a href="/luke/22-62.htm">62</a>And Peter went out and wept bitterly. <A name="64"></a>The Soldiers Mock Jesus (<a href ="../matthew/27.htm#27">Matthew 27:27–31</a>; <a href ="../mark/15.htm#16">Mark 15:16–20</a>; <a href ="../john/19.htm">John 19:1–15</a>)<a href="/luke/22-63.htm">63</a>And the men that laid hold on Jesus, insulted and abused Him; <A name="65"></a><a href="/luke/22-64.htm">64</a>and when they had blind-folded Him, they struck Him on the face, and asked Him, saying, Prophesy who it was that smote thee. <A name="66"></a><a href="/luke/22-65.htm">65</a>And many other things spake they against Him, blaspheming Him. <A name="67"></a>Jesus before the Sanhedrin (<a href ="../matthew/26.htm#57">Matthew 26:57–68</a>; <a href ="../mark/14.htm#53">Mark 14:53–65</a>; <a href ="../john/18.htm#19">John 18:19–24</a>)<a href="/luke/22-66.htm">66</a>And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and chief-priests, and scribes, assembled together, and ordered Him up into their council: <A name="68"></a><a href="/luke/22-67.htm">67</a>and said to Him, Art thou the Messiah? tell us.
