En aquellos años era lógico pensar que sería goleado y prácticamente humillado en un grupo donde estaba integrado por Italia, Polonia y Perú. Si bien Camerún no pasó de ronda, su participación quedó siempre en el recuerdo por haberse ido invicta y tener un destacado arquero como Thomas N´Kono.</p> <p>Pasaron 8 años y nuevamente Camerún hace su aparición en Italia ´90. Esta vez da la sorpresa no sólo por ganar el partido inaugural frente a los campeones del mundo vigentes, Argentina, sino que también por su participación donde caen en alargue frente a Inglaterra en 4tos de Final. Pero creo que estaría mal que no diga nada con respecto a la brillante clasificación obtenida por Chile a la Copa del Mundo de Sudáfrica 2010.</p> <p><a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2008/10/16/bielsista-boninista/" target="_blank">El 16 de Octubre de 2008 escribí un post llamado Bielsista Boninista</a> (y no lo hice antes porque <a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2008/09/05/" target="_blank">el blog nace el 05 de Septiembre</a> del mismo año) en el cual expreso mi convicción total por el proceso liderado por Marcelo Bielsa.</p> <p>Soy un seguidor de este técnico al cual apodan “El Loco” desde que estaba a cargo a fines de 1990 de su querido Newell´s Old Boys de Rosario, donde comienza a deslumbrar por su forma de parar el equipo en cancha y su obsesión por la táctica.</p> <p>Pasaron los años y siempre estuve atento a lo que hacía este rosarino, ya sea cuando estuvo en Vélez Sarsfield o lamenté mucho su fracaso mundialista en Japón-Corea 2002. El que esté hoy en día sentado en el banco chileno es un verdadero lujo y no puedo más que sentirme feliz que sea este hombre que nos lleve a jugar nuestra octava Copa del Mundo, en la cual creo (y dependiendo un poco del grupo y llaves) que Chile puede lograr una actuación histórica.</p> <p>Tengo claro que si uno quiere ser campeón mundial hay que ganarle a todos, pero también sé que la suerte ayuda un poquito en la forma de alcanzar ciertos sueños.</p> <p>Chile ya es mundial y se ha logrado con contundencia. Para 1930 y 1950 asistimos por invitación, el ´62 fuimos locales y en 1965 tuvimos que definir dramáticamente con<a href="https://pepelotas.wordpress.com/2008/10/09/chile-ecuador-i-parte/" target="_blank"> Ecuador en Lima nuestra participación en Inglaterra ´66</a>. Algo similar nos pasó para Alemania ´74 donde el partido con Unión Soviética todavía está en la memoria luego del empate sin goles en Moscú y <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvMi0cXaZDI" target="_blank">la negación de jugar el partido de vuelta por los Soviéticos en protesta por el Gobierno Militar del momento.</a></p> <p>Para Francia ´98, logramos una meritoria clasificación, pero por diferencia de goles, debido a que igualamos en puntos con Perú, por lo tanto, sólo para España ´82 pudimos jugar la última fecha con tranquilidad y clasificados (triunfo ante Paraguay por 3-0). Esté Miércoles 14 de Octubre podremos disfrutar del partido no sólo en sus ´90 minutos de juegos, sino que también de la previa.</p> <p>Gracias a todos los que participaron en el proceso (tal como dijo Bielsa) y especialmente, un tremendo agradecimiento a los dirigentes que se la jugaron, el cuerpo técnico y a don Marcelo Bielsa… Sudáfrica 2010 es ahora nuestro próximo sueño.</p> <span class="embed-youtube" style="text-align:center; Aquella Copa América no tenía una sede fija y se jugaba en fase de grupos con partidos de ida y vuelta. Como Perú era el campeón vigente, no le tocó disputar la Primera Fase y entraba directamente a Semifinales.</p> <p>Los grupos se conformaron de la siguiente manera:<br /> Grupo I – Chile, Colombia y Venezuela<br /> Grupo II – Brasil, Argentina y Bolivia<br /> Grupo III – Paraguay, Ecuador y Uruguay</p> <p>Chile, Brasil y Paraguay ganan sus respectivos grupos y las semifinales enfrentan a los del Pacífico y los del Atlántico en forma separada:<br /> Chile v/s Perú<br /> Brasil v/s Paraguay</p> <p>El seleccionado chileno vence en Lima 2-1 y luego empata en Santiago 0-0. Con ese resultado se transforma en el primer finalista. Por su parte, Paraguay vence 2-1 en Asunción y consigue un heroico 2-2 en Río de Janeiro.</p> <p>El 28 de Noviembre en Asunción, paraguayos y chilenos disputan la primera final, donde el equipo guaraní gana con propiedad por 3-0, con goles de Julio César Romero 2 y Milcíades Morel. Una semana después, el 05 de Diciembre en Santiago se produce la segunda final y con un ajustado 1-0 a favor de Chile (gol de Carlos Rivas), el seleccionado chileno obliga a un tercer partido, producto que la diferencia de goles no corría en los dos primeros encuentros.</p> <p>Buenos Aires, Argentina se transforma en la sede final y un 11 de Diciembre fue la fecha elegida. Después de un combativo empate sin goles, se juega el alargue de 30 minutos… el empate le daba el triunfo a los paraguayos y así fue. Si bien, se veía accesible, en la medida que comenzaron a sucederse los partidos no tuvo nada de eso.</p> <p>Es entre Perú y la Argentina liderada por Maradona en la cancha y Carlos Salvador Bilardo como técnico quienes comandan una apretada lucha por el primer puesto. Bilardo llevaba 2 años soportando las presiones del periodismo y sabía que su “cabeza” estaba en juego si la Argentina no llegaba a clasificar a México.</p> <p>Perú vence en un polémico partido a la Argentina en Lima por 1-0 y digo polémico, por el famoso marcaje que le hace Reyna a Maradona. Con este resultado, Argentina encabeza el grupo con 8 puntos, seguido muy de cerca por el Perú con 7.</p> <p>Es por eso que el partido que se jugaba en Buenos Aires era el todo por el todo. Avanzado el partido, Perú ganaba 2-1 y la desesperación cundía en todo el equipo trasandino, debido a que el equipo del Rimac alcanzaba la clasificación directa al Mundial.</p> <p>Finalmente vino la “patriada” de Passarella (jugador símbolo del menottismo) que con más coraje y pudor prácticamente define el ansiado gol del empate y si bien el gol fue prácticamente de Daniel Passarella, fue Ricardo Gareca que empuja el balón en el arco peruano.</p> <p>Los invito a recordar estos 2 impresionantes partidos, más lleno de emoción y fuerza, que de fútbol y virtuosismo.</p> <span class="embed-youtube" tremendo fracaso de España ´82 y viviendo días turbulentos en Chile, ver el debut de la nueva selección al mando de Luis Ibarra.</p> <p>Se venía la Copa América de 1983 y Chile tenía que prepararse porque tenía como rivales a Ecuador y el siempre complicado Uruguay. Es por ese motivo que se hicieron partidos de preparación contra Bolivia y Perú.</p> <p>Jorge Aravena ya era un destacado volante ofensivo que brillaba en Universidad Católica. Su potente zurda ya tenía fama y fue en aquellos partidos donde se consolidó como uno de los más importantes ejecutores de tiros libres de América.</p> <p>Su apodo de “Mortero” se inicia en los comienzos de su carrera cuando jugaba en Deportes Naval, cuadro que le permitió ganar experiencia y después de su paso por Católica emigró al Real Valladolid de España, luego vistió la casaquilla de Deportivo Cali de Colombia y finalmente fue en Puebla de México donde quizás alcanzó sus mejores años como futbolista.</p> <p>La madurez y el tiempo que le dedicaba a los tiros libres, hizo de Jorge Aravena no sólo un jugador que le pegaba muy fuerte al balón, sino que le fue agregando efecto y lo hizo ser considerado uno de los ejecutantes más importantes de todos los tiempos en Chile. Él decía que su secreto estaba en número de calzado… 36.</p> <p>Con la Selección Chilena le tocó jugar dos clasificatorias para México ’86 e Italia ’90, pero nunca pudo jugar una Copa del Mundo. Por la Roja convirtió 22 goles en 36 partidos (entre 1983 y 1990), lo cual lo encumbraron al 5to goleador histórico.</p> <p>Pero indudablemente su gol más recordado, es el llamado “Gol Imposible” que le hace a Uruguay en el Estadio Nacional en 1985.</p> <p>Una vez retirado inició su carrera como técnico de Audax Italiano, Santiago Wanderers, Everton, Palestino, Santiago Morning, Puebla de México, Selección Chilena Sub-17 y Cobreloa, con suerte dispar en cada institución.</p> <p>Palmares:<br /> Fue campeón con Universidad Católica y goleador de la Copa Polla Gol en 1983. Esta notable selección regó las canchas peruanos de talento, despertando grandes muestras de reconocimiento con una delantera de lujo integrada por: Corbatta, Maschio, Angelillo, Sívori y Cruz. En este seleccionado dirigido por Guillermo Stábile también destacaron Dellacha, Pipo Rossi y Vairo.<br /> Argentina disputó un total de 6 partidos, con 5 triunfos y una derrota por 2-1 ante Perú cuando el campeonato ya estaba definido. Convirtiendo 25 goles y sólo recibieron 6: 8-2 a Colombia, 3-0 a Ecuador, 4-0 a Uruguay, 6-2 a Chile y 3-0 a Brasil.<br /> Con este gran accionar como conjunto, Argentina pensó que tenía todo para ganar la Copa del Mundo que se iba disputar en Suecia ´58. Pero no contó que Italia compraría a Sívori, Maschio y Angelillo, despotenciando al conjunto albiceleste y curiosamente, Suecia ´58 terminó siendo un fracaso para ambas selecciones: Argentina hizo un papelón que hasta hoy es recordado y por su parte Italia, quedó eliminado en las Clasificatorias, siendo la última Copa del Mundo que no puedo jugar hasta hoy.</p> <div data-shortcode="caption" duelo de Perú y Chile por las Clasificatorias a Sudáfrica 2010. A continuación, el detalle completo del artículo:</p> <p><span class="titulo1"><strong>Esto sí que fue tensión: en enero de 1935, Chile se enfrentó por primera vez a Perú. Fue en Lima, a medio siglo de la Guerra del Pacífico y a seis años de la devolución de Tacna.</strong></span><br /> <span class="titulo1"><br /> El 26 de enero de 1935, a las 16:07, la selección chilena entró a la cancha del Estadio Nacional de Lima para jugar por primera vez en la historia contra Perú. Habían pasado cincuenta años desde el fin de la Guerra de Pacífico, y apenas seis desde la devolución de Tacna. Los relojes marcaron el inicio del cotejo ocho minutos después, pero la serie de eventos que hicieron posible ese partido comenzaron mucho antes.</p> <p>En 1928, la cámara de Senadores de Perú aprobó la reapertura de la embajada en Santiago, y Augusto Leguía, a la sazón Presidente de Perú, le ordenó a la federación que trajera un equipo chileno a jugar a Perú. El elegido fue el Santiago Football Club.</p> <p>Los chilenos viajaron, pero allá se enteraron que, desde Santiago, la federación les prohibía actuar: al recibir dinero burlaban su condición de amateurs. No tenían autorización.</p> <p>Leguía no se conformó. Instó a la federación peruana a insistir, debido a los «altos móviles» que tenía el Gobierno para que el duelo tuviese lugar. Salió un cablegrama rumbo a Chile, pero sin la firma de León M. Vega, presidente federativo. Fue su último día en el cargo. Finalmente, el 24 de septiembre, en el estadio Víctor Manuel II, Santiago Football Club venció 4-2 a Circolo Sportivo Italiano. La plana mayor del gobierno peruano estaba en las tribunas.</p> <p>Fue el primer antecedente, pero faltaba el hito mayor: que una delegación oficial chilena fuera de visita, con todas las implicancias del caso.</p> <p>Ya sin Leguía -Óscar Benavides estaba en su lugar-, el gobierno peruano organizó el aniversario número 400 de Lima, un extenso festejo que tendría como punto importante un campeonato sudamericano extraordinario, con Uruguay, Argentina y Chile. Una serie de factores permitieron que la invitación fuera aceptada. «Era parte de una celebración mucho mayor, auspiciada por el municipio. El ambiente festivo podía calmar las odiosidades», explica el historiador chileno Luis Ortega Martínez, quien hoy trabaja en Harvard. «Además, Perú tenía un militar a cargo, lo que ciertamente garantizaba mano dura ante cualquier tipo de incidente. Otro punto importante es que las élites de ambos países estaban fuertemente relacionadas. Había muchos exiliados peruanos en Chile. No a nivel de pueblo, pero a nivel aristocrático. Había muchos vasos comunicantes».</p> <p>Con el dirigente Joaquín Morales ejerciendo de director técnico, la selección chilena inició un plan de preparación en Santiago, que, según acreditan los diarios, distó mucho de lo ideal. Para empezar, faltaban varias piezas. Teodocio Aguirre, quien jugaba en esos años en Aviación, confirma. «Muchos jugadores éramos además miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas, las que nos daban permiso para entrenar una vez a la semana, no para concentrarnos en un hotel».</p> <p>Así, antes del año nuevo, el equipo chileno zarpó de Valparaíso rumbo a Callao, a bordo del carguero Santa Teresa. Para ser un cuadrangular, el torneo se tomaba su tiempo: 21 días entre el primer y el tercer partido.</p> <p>Chile perdió 4-1 con Argentina en el debut y 2-1 frente a Uruguay el 18 de enero. La semana previa al choque con los locales fue bastante rara. La selección se dedicó a pasearse por las redacciones de todos los periódicos locales, pidiendo que transmitieran un mensaje de tranquilidad.</p> <p>Dentro del plantel las cosas no estaban tan tranquilas. Diversos rumores de indisciplina habían llegado hasta Santiago, habiéndose comprobado uno sólo: tras el partido con Uruguay, el mediocampista Guillermo Gornall se pegó una «largona» difícil de obviar: se desapareció el viernes en la noche y llegó al hotel recién el domingo. Los diarios, apuntan, eso sí, que el lunes entrenó como el que más.</p> <p>La situación tuvo réplicas: la Asociación Talca envió una misiva a la federación. «Con todos los antecedentes, sean inflexibles de la aplicación de las penas a los que se han hecho acreedores los que en mala hora llevaron la responsabilidad de representar al fútbol nacional».</p> <p>Para peor, el técnico Morales tuvo que dejar Lima en la mitad del campeonato, por la enfermedad de un familiar. Ya en Chile, dijo que todo ocurrió dentro de la normalidad. Su ausencia contra Perú tampoco era tan dramática: en el partido contra Argentina había querido cambiar a Gornall y a Guillermo Riveros por su pobre actuación, pero el capitán Carlos Guiduce se lo prohibió. Según él, estaban bien así.</p> <p>El gobierno chileno seguía atento el recibimiento que la delegación chilena recibía en Lima. La embajada de Chile envió un oficio tranquilizador sobre el público durante el choque contra Uruguay. «El nombre de Chile era aclamado insistentemente por millares de voces que pusieron una nota de inmensa emoción en le vasto anfiteatro deportivo».</p> <p>En la calle, la temperatura era otra. Juan Sánchez Robles nació en 1916. Fue jugador entre 1927 y 1939, pero sólo al final de su carrera logró actuar en primera división.</p> <p>Con 19 años, estuvo esa tarde en el Nacional de Lima como espectador. «Fue un acontecimiento cuando el pueblo peruano supo que venía una selección chilena, ya que estaba aún sensible lo de la guerra y lo que habían robado, saqueado y matado. Además, se comentaba en las calles que en Chile habían puesto la bandera del Perú como alfombra de los ministerios o edificios públicos y la gente que entraba tenía que pisarla para entrar».</p> <p>Otro incidente, en el partido por la segunda fecha entre Perú y Argentina, puso a las partes en alerta. Las crónicas hablan de una batalla campal, con agresiones variadas de los trasandinos -lesionaron a cuatro rivales- que incluso incluyeron al juez. Al término, buena parte de los espectadores esperó a los visitantes para lanzarle piedras. En el tumulto fueron heridos García, Bello, Pajoni y Campilongo. La dirigencia argentina amenazó con devolverse a Buenos Aires sin jugar la final.</p> <p>El asunto se solucionó, pero obligó a intensificar la campaña pública para el duelo por el tercer puesto.</p> <p>El día anterior al partido, el equipo chileno en pleno visitó a los peruanos, que estaban concentrados en un estadio de Callao, con toda la prensa apostada. Almorzaron juntos y hasta intercambiaron vítores concluido el ágape.</p> <p>Los diarios peruanos, alineados con el gobierno en despolitizar el encuentro, se plegaron a la campaña. El Comercio escribía en una editorial. «Los jugadores saldrán a la cancha a confraternizar, pues antes que el triunfo anhelado por peruanos y chilenos está al común deseo de alternar en un torneo en que les sea dable estrechar aún mas los vínculos fraternales».</p> <p>La dirigencia chilena fue clara con los jugadores: había que salir con bandera blanca; un incidente como el que sufrió Argentina, podía desencadenar en algo mucho peor. El delegado Arturo Flores decía el día previo. «Anhelamos llevarnos un campeonato de esportmanship (sic), mientras otros se lleven el título sudamericano».</p> <p>Los peruanos eran conocidos por dos cosas. Su arquero, Juan Valdivieso -padre Luis, ex ministro de economía de Alan García y hoy embajador en Estados Unidos-, quien se haría famoso al año siguiente en una gira por Chile, al atajar cuatro penales en un mismo partido. Los otros eran un par de jugadores muy recios: Fernández y Lavalle. Este último, de hecho, tuvo que retirarse de la actividad en 1936, cuando, de una patada, le rompió la arteria femoral a un rival, causándole la pérdida de la pierna por gangrena y, días después, la muerte.</p> <p>De vuelta al 26 de enero, a las 16:15. El argentino Eduardo Forte -quien insólitamente tenía que jugar la final al día siguiente- dio el pitazo inicial.</p> <p>Chile dominó el encuentro sin mayores problemas -muchos peruanos estaban molidos aún por la paliza que les dio Argentina- e hicieron de Valdivieso rápida figura. Las acciones entre los cinco delanteros nacionales eran más coordinadas, pero no pudieron concretar.</p> <p>A los seis minutos del segundo tiempo, Perú dio el golpe, tras una extraña situación: Teodoro Fernández, ídolo de los locales, llevaba el balón y chocó duramente con Arturo Torres. Los jugadores chilenos, preocupados del juego limpio, se quedaron impávidos mirando al delantero rival en el piso. Montellanos se aprovechó de la ingenuidad y batió a Cortés para anotar el único gol de esa tarde.</p> <p>La Crónica de Perú resume muy bien el trámite. «Los equipos, instados de antemano a hacer un brega limpia, amainaron sus ímpetus desde el camarín. Salieron juntos a la cancha y jamás pudieron librarse de esa consigna».</p> <p>Hubo doce mil personas en el estadio y ningún incidente que reportar. «El equipo chileno se sorprendió: pensaban los íbamos a tratar mal, que iban a recibir amenazas, que hasta los podríamos matar, sin embargo el público en el estadio llegó a aplaudirlos y reírse de algunos chistes que hicieron», recuerda Sánchez.</p> <p>¿Por qué no explotó Lima esa vez? Hay varias teorías: las entradas estuvieron inusualmente altas para la época: tres soles por galería (el equivalente a 180 pesos).</p> <p>Eduardo Cavieres, Premio Nacional de Historia y especialista en relaciones chileno-peruanas, va más allá. «El gobierno peruano venía saliendo de un conflicto muy reciente con Colombia, que, aunque menor en escala que la guerra del Pacífico, concentraba en ese momento particular los sentimientos nacionalistas peruanos, superando incluso lo que significaba tener chilenos en Lima a tan poco tiempo del conflicto. A pesar de ser un partido de fútbol, fue además una importante prueba de civilidad para los dos países».</p> <p>Tras el partido, los chilenos felicitaron a los peruanos, dejaron el estadio en plena calma y al día siguiente ya estaban a bordo del Santa Teresa, con seis días en altamar, por delante.</span></p> <p><span class="titulo1"></p> <div data-shortcode="caption" id="attachment_650"
