And Jehu<MH3058> wrote<MH3789> letters<MH5612> and sent<MH7971> them to Samaria<MH8111>, to the officials<MH8269> of Jezreel<MH3157>, the elders<MH2205>, and to the guardians<MH539> of the children of Ahab<MH256>, saying<MH559>, <a href="/2_kings/10-2.htm">2</a>“And now<MH6258>, when this<MH2088> letter<MH5612> comes<MH935> to you, since your master’s<MH113> sons<MH1121> are with you, <a href="#fn">[a]</a>as well as the chariots<MH7393> and horses<MH5483b>, and a fortified<MH4013> city<MH5892b> and the weapons<MH5402>, <a href="/2_kings/10-3.htm">3</a>select<MH7200> the best<MH2896a> and most<MH3477> capable<MH3477> of your master’s<MH113> sons<MH1121> and seat<MH7760> him on his father’s<MH1> throne<MH3678>, and fight<MH3898a> for your master’s<MH113> house<MH1004>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-4.htm">4</a>But they feared<MH3372a> greatly<MH3966> and said<MH559>, “Behold<MH2009>, the two<MH8147> kings<MH4428> did not stand<MH5975> firm before<MH6440> him; how<MH349> then can we stand<MH5975>?” <a href="/2_kings/10-5.htm">5</a>And the one who<MH834> was in<MH5921> charge<MH5921> of<MH5921> the household<MH1004>, and the one who<MH834> was in<MH5921> charge<MH5921> of<MH5921> the city<MH5892b>, and the elders<MH2205>, and the guardians<MH539> of the children, sent<MH7971> word to Jehu<MH3058>, saying<MH559>, “We are your servants<MH5650>, and everything<MH3605> that you tell<MH559> us we will do<MH6213a>. We will not appoint<MH4427a> any<MH376> man<MH376> king<MH4427a>; do<MH6213a> what<MH2896a> is<MH2896a> good<MH2896a> in your sight<MH5869>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-6.htm">6</a>Then he wrote<MH3789> them a letter<MH5612> a second<MH8145> time<MH8145>, saying<MH559>, “If<MH518> you are on my side, and will listen<MH8085> to my voice<MH6963>, take<MH3947> the heads<MH7218> of the men<MH376>, your master’s<MH113> sons<MH1121>, and come<MH935> to me at Jezreel<MH3157> about<MH935> this time<MH6256> tomorrow<MH4279>.” Now the king’s<MH4428> sons<MH1121>, seventy<MH7657> men<MH376>, were with the great<MH1419> people<MH1419> of the city<MH5892b>, who were raising<MH1431> them. <a href="/2_kings/10-7.htm">7</a>When the letter<MH5612> came<MH935> to them, they took<MH3947> the king’s<MH4428> sons<MH1121> and slaughtered<MH7819> them, seventy<MH7657> men<MH376>, and put<MH7760> their heads<MH7218> in baskets<MH1731>, and sent<MH7971> them to him at Jezreel<MH3157>. <a href="/2_kings/10-8.htm">8</a>When the messenger<MH4397> came<MH935> and informed<MH5046> him, saying<MH559>, “They have brought<MH935> the heads<MH7218> of the king’s<MH4428> sons<MH1121>,” he said<MH559>, “Put<MH7760> them in two<MH8147> heaps<MH6652> at the entrance<MH6607> of the gate<MH8179> until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-9.htm">9</a>Now in the morning<MH1242> he went<MH3318> out<MH3318> and stood<MH5975> and said<MH559> to all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a>, “You are <a href="#fn">[b]</a>innocent<MH6662>; behold<MH2009>, I conspired<MH7194> against<MH5921> my master<MH113> and killed<MH2026> him, but who<MH4310> <a href="#fn">[c]</a>killed<MH5221> all<MH3605> these<MH428>? <a href="/2_kings/10-10.htm">10</a>Know<MH3045> then<MH645> that nothing<MH3808> of the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>, which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> concerning<MH5921> the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>, shall <a href="#fn">[d]</a>fall<MH5307> to the earth<MH776>, for the LORD<MH3068> has done<MH6213a> what<MH834> He spoke<MH1696> <a href="#fn">[e]</a>through<MH3027> His servant<MH5650> Elijah<MH452>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-11.htm">11</a>So Jehu<MH3058> <a href="#fn">[f]</a>killed<MH5221> all<MH3605> who remained<MH7604> of the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256> in Jezreel<MH3157>, and all<MH3605> his great<MH1419> men<MH1419>, his acquaintances<MH3045>, and his priests<MH3548>, until<MH5704> he left<MH7604> him without<MH1115> a survivor<MH8300>. <a href="/2_kings/10-12.htm">12</a>Then he set<MH6965> out<MH6965> and <a href="#fn">[g]</a>went<MH1980> to Samaria<MH8111>. On the way<MH1870> while he was at <a href="#fn">[h]</a>Beth-eked<MH1044> of the shepherds<MH7462a>, <a href="/2_kings/10-13.htm">13</a>Jehu<MH3058> <a href="#fn">[i]</a>encountered<MH4672> the relatives<MH251> of Ahaziah<MH274> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, and he said<MH559>, “Who<MH4310> are you?” And they <a href="#fn">[j]</a>answered<MH559>, “We are the relatives<MH251> of Ahaziah<MH274>; and we have come<MH3381> down<MH3381> to greet<MH7965> the sons<MH1121> of the king<MH4428> and the sons<MH1121> of the queen<MH1377> mother<MH1377>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-14.htm">14</a>Then he said<MH559>, “Take<MH8610> them alive<MH2416a>.” So they took<MH8610> them alive<MH2416a>, and slaughtered<MH7819> them at the pit<MH953a> of Beth-eked<MH1044>, forty-two<MH705, 8147> men<MH376>; and he left<MH7604> none<MH3808, 376> of them. <a href="/2_kings/10-15.htm">15</a>Now when he had gone<MH1980> from there<MH8033>, he <a href="#fn">[k]</a>encountered<MH4672> Jehonadab<MH3082> the son<MH1121> of Rechab<MH7394> coming to meet<MH7122> him; and he <a href="#fn">[l]</a>greeted<MH1288> him and said<MH559> to him, “Is your heart<MH3824> right<MH3477>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> my heart<MH3824> is with your heart<MH3824>?” And Jehonadab<MH3082> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>answered<MH559>, “It is.” Jehu said, “If it is, give<MH5414> me your hand<MH3027>.” And he gave<MH5414> him his hand<MH3027>, and he pulled<MH5927> him up<MH5927> to him into the chariot<MH4818>. <a href="/2_kings/10-16.htm">16</a>Then he said<MH559>, “Come<MH1980> with me and see<MH7200> my zeal<MH7068> for the LORD<MH3068>.” So <a href="#fn">[n]</a>he had him ride<MH7392> in his chariot<MH7393>. <a href="/2_kings/10-17.htm">17</a>When he came<MH935> to Samaria<MH8111>, he <a href="#fn">[o]</a>killed<MH5221> all<MH3605> who remained<MH7604> to Ahab<MH256> in Samaria<MH8111>, until<MH5704> he had eliminated<MH8045> <a href="#fn">[p]</a>them, in accordance with the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> which<MH834> He spoke<MH1696> to Elijah<MH452>. Jehu Destroys Baal Worshipers<a href="/2_kings/10-18.htm">18</a>Then Jehu<MH3058> gathered<MH6908> all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> and said<MH559> to them, “Ahab<MH256> served<MH5647> Baal<MH1168a> a little<MH4592>; Jehu<MH3058> will serve<MH5647> him much<MH7235a>. <a href="/2_kings/10-19.htm">19</a>Now<MH6258>, summon<MH7121> to me all<MH3605> the prophets<MH5030> of Baal<MH1168a>, all<MH3605> his worshipers<MH5647> and all<MH3605> his priests<MH3548>; let no<MH408> one<MH376> go<MH6485> missing<MH6485>, because<MH3588> I have a great<MH1419> sacrifice<MH2077> for Baal<MH1168a>; whoever<MH3605, 834> is<MH6485> missing<MH6485> shall not live<MH2421a>.” But Jehu<MH3058> did<MH6213a> it in deception<MH6122>, in<MH4616> order<MH4616> to<MH4616> eliminate<MH6> the worshipers<MH5647> of Baal<MH1168a>. <a href="/2_kings/10-20.htm">20</a>And Jehu<MH3058> said<MH559>, “Proclaim<MH6942> a holy<MH6942> assembly<MH6116> for Baal<MH1168a>.” And they proclaimed<MH7121> it. <a href="/2_kings/10-21.htm">21</a>Then Jehu<MH3058> sent<MH7971> word <a href="#fn">[q]</a>throughout<MH3605> Israel<MH3478>, and all<MH3605> the worshipers<MH5647> of Baal<MH1168a> came<MH935>, so that there was not a person<MH376> left<MH7604> who<MH834> did not come<MH935>. And when they entered<MH935> the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a>, the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a> was filled<MH4390> from one<MH6310> end<MH6310> to the other<MH6310>. <a href="/2_kings/10-22.htm">22</a>And he said<MH559> to the one who<MH834> was <a href="#fn">[r]</a>in<MH5921> charge<MH5921> of<MH5921> the wardrobe<MH4458>, “Bring<MH3318> out<MH3318> garments<MH3830> for all<MH3605> the worshipers<MH5647> of Baal<MH1168a>.” So he brought<MH3318> out<MH3318> the garments<MH4403> for them. <a href="/2_kings/10-23.htm">23</a>Then Jehu<MH3058> entered<MH935> the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a> with Jehonadab<MH3082> the son<MH1121> of Rechab<MH7394>; and he said<MH559> to the worshipers<MH5647> of Baal<MH1168a>, “Search<MH2664> carefully<MH2664> and see<MH7200> to it that<MH6435> there<MH3426> is<MH3426> here<MH6311> with you none<MH6435> of the servants<MH5650> of the LORD<MH3068>, but only<MH905> the worshipers<MH5647> of Baal<MH1168a>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-24.htm">24</a>Then they entered<MH935> to <a href="#fn">[s]</a>offer<MH6213a> sacrifices<MH2077> and burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a>. Now Jehu<MH3058> had stationed<MH7760> for himself eighty<MH8084> men<MH376> outside<MH2351>, and he had said<MH559>, “The one<MH376> who<MH834> allows any<MH4480> of the men<MH376> whom<MH834> I bring<MH935> into your hands<MH3027> to escape<MH4422> <a href="#fn">[t]</a>shall give up his life<MH5315> in exchange<MH8478>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-25.htm">25</a>Then it came<MH1961> about<MH1961>, as soon as he had finished<MH3615> <a href="#fn">[u]</a>offering<MH6213a> the burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a>, that Jehu<MH3058> said<MH559> to the <a href="#fn">[v]</a>guard<MH7323> and to the royal<MH7991c> officers<MH7991c>, “Go<MH935> in<MH935>, <a href="#fn">[w]</a>kill<MH5221> them; let none<MH376, 408> come<MH3318> out<MH3318>.” So they <a href="#fn">[x]</a>killed<MH5221> them with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>; and the <a href="#fn">[y]</a>guard<MH7323> and the royal<MH7991c> officers<MH7991c> threw<MH7993> them out<MH7993>, and went<MH1980> to the <a href="#fn">[z]</a>sanctuary<MH5892b> of the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a>. <a href="/2_kings/10-26.htm">26</a>They brought<MH3318> out<MH3318> the memorial<MH4676> stones<MH4676> of the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a> and burned<MH8313> them. <a href="/2_kings/10-27.htm">27</a>They also tore<MH5422> down<MH5422> the memorial<MH4676> stone<MH4676> of Baal<MH1168a> and tore<MH5422> down<MH5422> the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a>, and made<MH7760> it a latrine<MH4280> as it is to this day<MH3117>. <a href="/2_kings/10-28.htm">28</a>So Jehu<MH3058> eradicated<MH8045> Baal<MH1168a> from Israel<MH3478>. <a href="/2_kings/10-29.htm">29</a>However<MH7534b>, as for the sins<MH2399> of Jeroboam<MH3379> the son<MH1121> of Nebat<MH5028>, into which<MH834> he misled<MH2398> Israel<MH3478>, from these Jehu<MH3058> did not desist<MH5493>, including the golden<MH2091> calves<MH5695> that were at Bethel<MH1008> and at Dan<MH1835>. <a href="/2_kings/10-30.htm">30</a>Yet the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Jehu<MH3058>, “Because<MH3282, 834> you have done<MH2895> well<MH2895> in performing<MH6213a> what<MH3477> is<MH3477> right<MH3477> in My eyes<MH5869>, and have done<MH6213a> to the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256> in accordance with everything<MH3605> that was in My heart<MH3824>, your sons<MH1121> to the fourth<MH7243> generation shall sit<MH3427> on the throne<MH3678> of Israel<MH3478>.” <a href="/2_kings/10-31.htm">31</a>But Jehu<MH3058> was<MH8104> not careful<MH8104> to walk<MH1980> in the Law<MH8451> of the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478>, with all<MH3605> his heart<MH3824>; he did not desist<MH5493> from the sins<MH2403b> of Jeroboam<MH3379>, into which<MH834> he misled<MH2398> Israel<MH3478>. <a href="/2_kings/10-32.htm">32</a>In those<MH1992a> days<MH3117> the LORD<MH3068> began<MH2490c> to cut<MH7096> off<MH7096> pieces from Israel<MH3478>; and Hazael<MH2371> <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>defeated<MH5221> them throughout<MH3605> the territory<MH1366> of Israel<MH3478>: <a href="/2_kings/10-33.htm">33</a>from the Jordan<MH3383> eastward<MH4217, 8121>, all<MH3605> the land<MH776> of Gilead<MH1568>, the Gadites<MH1425>, the Reubenites<MH7206>, and the Manassites<MH4520>; from Aroer<MH6177>, which<MH834> is by the Valley<MH5158a> of the Arnon<MH769>, that is, Gilead<MH1568> and Bashan<MH1316>. Jehoahaz Succeeds Jehu<a href="/2_kings/10-34.htm">34</a>Now as for the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Jehu<MH3058> and everything<MH3605> that he did<MH6213a> and all<MH3605> his might<MH1369>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>? <a href="/2_kings/10-35.htm">35</a>And Jehu<MH3058> <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>lay<MH7901> down<MH7901> with his fathers<MH1>, and they buried<MH6912> him in Samaria<MH8111>.
