and a man<MG444> was there<MG1563> <a href="#fn">[c]</a>whose<MG2532, 846> right<MG1188> hand<MG5495> was withered<MG3584>. <a href="/luke/6-7.htm">7</a>Now<MG1161> the scribes<MG1122> and the Pharisees<MG5330> were watching<MG3906> Him <a href="#fn">[d]</a>closely<MG3906> to see if<MG1487> He healed<MG2323> on the Sabbath<MG4521>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> they might find<MG2147> a reason to accuse<MG2723> Him. <a href="/luke/6-8.htm">8</a>But He knew<MG3609a> <a href="#fn">[e]</a>what<MG1261> they were thinking<MG1261>, and He said<MG3004> to the man<MG435> with the withered<MG3584> hand<MG5495>, “Get<MG1453> up<MG1453> and <a href="#fn">[f]</a>come<MG2476> forward<MG1519, 3319>!” And he got<MG450> up<MG450> and <a href="#fn">[g]</a>came<MG2476> forward. <a href="/luke/6-9.htm">9</a>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “I ask<MG1905> you whether<MG1487> it is lawful<MG1832> to do<MG15> good<MG15> on the Sabbath<MG4521> or<MG2228> to do<MG2554> harm<MG2554>, to save<MG4982> a life<MG5590> or<MG2228> to destroy<MG622> it?” <a href="/luke/6-10.htm">10</a>And after looking<MG4017> around<MG4017> at them all<MG3956>, He said<MG3004> to him, “Stretch<MG1614> out<MG1614> your hand<MG5495>!” And he did<MG4160> so; and his hand<MG5495> was restored<MG600>. <a href="/luke/6-11.htm">11</a>But they themselves<MG846> were filled<MG4092a> with senseless<MG454> rage<MG454>, and began discussing<MG1255> together<MG4314, 240> what<MG5101, 302> they might do<MG4160> to Jesus<MG2424>. Choosing the Twelve<a href="/luke/6-12.htm">12</a>Now<MG1161> it was <a href="#fn">[h]</a>at this<MG3778> time<MG2250> that He went<MG1831> off<MG1831> to the mountain<MG3735> to pray<MG4336>, and He spent<MG1273> the<MG1273> whole<MG1273> night<MG1273> in prayer<MG4335> with God<MG2316>. <a href="/luke/6-13.htm">13</a>And when<MG3753> day<MG2250> came<MG1096>, He called<MG4377> His disciples<MG3101> to<MG4377> Him and chose<MG1586> twelve<MG1427> of them, whom<MG3739> He also<MG2532> named<MG3687> as apostles<MG652>: <a href="/luke/6-14.htm">14</a>Simon<MG4613>, whom<MG3739> He also<MG2532> named<MG3687> Peter<MG4074>, and his brother<MG80> Andrew<MG406>; and <a href="#fn">[i]</a>James<MG2385> and John<MG2491>; and Philip<MG5376> and Bartholomew<MG918>; <a href="/luke/6-15.htm">15</a>and Matthew<MG3102b> and Thomas<MG2381>; James<MG2385> the son of Alphaeus<MG256b>, and Simon<MG4613> who was called<MG2564> the Zealot<MG2208>; <a href="/luke/6-16.htm">16</a>Judas<MG2455> the son of James<MG2385>, and Judas<MG2455> Iscariot<MG2469>, who<MG3739> became<MG1096> a traitor<MG4273>. <a href="/luke/6-17.htm">17</a>And then Jesus came<MG2597> down<MG2597> with them and stood<MG2476> on a level<MG3977> place<MG5117>; and there was a large<MG4183> crowd<MG3793> of His disciples<MG3101>, and a great<MG4183> multitude<MG4128> of the people<MG2992> from all<MG3956> Judea<MG2449> and Jerusalem<MG2419>, and the coastal<MG3882> region<MG3882> of Tyre<MG5184> and Sidon<MG4605>, <a href="/luke/6-18.htm">18</a>who<MG3739> had come<MG2064> to hear<MG191> Him and to be healed<MG2390> of their diseases<MG3554>; and those<MG3588> who were troubled<MG1776> by unclean<MG169> spirits<MG4151> were being cured<MG2323>. <a href="/luke/6-19.htm">19</a>And all<MG3956> the <a href="#fn">[j]</a>people<MG3793> were trying<MG2212> to touch<MG681> Him, because<MG3754> power<MG1411> was coming<MG1831> from Him and healing<MG2390> them all<MG3956>. The Beatitudes<a href="/luke/6-20.htm">20</a>And He raised<MG1869> His eyes<MG3788> toward<MG1519> His disciples<MG3101> and began saying<MG3004>, “Blessed<MG3107> are <a href="#fn">[k]</a>you who are poor<MG4434>, for yours<MG5212> is the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>. <a href="/luke/6-21.htm">21</a>Blessed<MG3107> are <a href="#fn">[l]</a>you who are hungry<MG3983> now<MG3568>, for you will be satisfied<MG5526>. Blessed<MG3107> are <a href="#fn">[m]</a>you who weep<MG2799> now<MG3568>, for you will laugh<MG1070>. <a href="/luke/6-22.htm">22</a>Blessed<MG3107> are you when<MG3752> the people<MG444> hate<MG3404> you, and when<MG3752> they <a href="#fn">[n]</a>exclude<MG873> you, and insult<MG3679> you, and scorn<MG1544b> your name<MG3686> as evil<MG4190>, on account<MG1752a> of the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444>. <a href="/luke/6-23.htm">23</a>Rejoice<MG5463> on that day<MG2250> and jump<MG4640> for joy, for behold<MG2400>, your reward<MG3408> is great<MG4183> in heaven<MG3772>. For their fathers<MG3962> used to <a href="#fn">[o]</a>treat<MG4160> the prophets<MG4396> the same<MG846> way<MG2596>. <a href="/luke/6-24.htm">24</a>But woe<MG3759> to you who are rich<MG4145>, for you are receiving<MG568> your comfort<MG3874> in full<MG568>. <a href="/luke/6-25.htm">25</a>Woe<MG3759> to you who <a href="#fn">[p]</a>are well-fed<MG1705a> now<MG3568>, for you will be hungry<MG3983>. Woe<MG3759> to you who laugh<MG1070> now<MG3568>, for you will mourn<MG3996> and weep<MG2799>. <a href="/luke/6-26.htm">26</a>Woe<MG3759> to you when<MG3752> all<MG3956> the people<MG444> speak<MG3004> well<MG2573> of you; for their fathers<MG3962> used to <a href="#fn">[q]</a>treat<MG4160> the false<MG5578> prophets<MG5578> the same<MG846> way<MG2596>. <a href="/luke/6-27.htm">27</a>“But I say<MG3004> to you who hear<MG191>, love<MG25> your enemies<MG2190>, do<MG4160> good<MG2573> to those<MG3588> who hate<MG3404> you, <a href="/luke/6-28.htm">28</a>bless<MG2127> those<MG3588> who curse<MG2672> you, pray<MG4336> for those<MG3588> who are<MG1908> abusive<MG1908> to you. <a href="/luke/6-29.htm">29</a>Whoever hits<MG5180> you on the cheek<MG4600>, offer<MG3930> him the other<MG243> also<MG2532>; and whoever takes<MG142> away<MG142> your <a href="#fn">[r]</a>cloak<MG2440>, do not withhold<MG2967> your <a href="#fn">[s]</a>tunic<MG5509> from him either<MG2532>. <a href="/luke/6-30.htm">30</a>Give<MG1325> to everyone<MG3956> who asks<MG154> of you, and whoever takes<MG142> away<MG142> what<MG3588> is yours<MG4674>, do not demand<MG523> it back<MG523>. <a href="/luke/6-31.htm">31</a><a href="#fn">[t]</a>Treat<MG4160> people<MG444> the same<MG3668> way<MG3668> you want<MG2309> them to <a href="#fn">[u]</a>treat<MG4160> you. <a href="/luke/6-32.htm">32</a>If<MG1487> you love<MG25> those<MG3588> who love<MG25> you, what<MG4169> credit<MG5485> is that to you? For even<MG2532> sinners<MG268> love<MG25> those<MG3588> who love<MG25> them. <a href="/luke/6-33.htm">33</a>And if<MG1437> you do<MG15> good<MG15> to those<MG3588> who do<MG15> good<MG15> to you, what<MG4169> credit<MG5485> is that to you? For even<MG2532> sinners<MG268> do<MG4160> the same<MG846>. <a href="/luke/6-34.htm">34</a>And if<MG1437> you lend<MG1155> to those from whom<MG3739> you expect<MG1679> to receive<MG2983>, what<MG4169> credit<MG5485> is that to you? Even<MG2532> sinners<MG268> lend<MG1155> to sinners<MG268> in<MG2443> order<MG2443> to<MG2443> receive<MG618> back<MG618> the same<MG2470> amount. <a href="/luke/6-35.htm">35</a>But love<MG25> your enemies<MG2190> and do<MG15> good<MG15>, and lend<MG1155>, expecting<MG560> nothing<MG3367> in<MG560> return<MG560>; and your reward<MG3408> will be great<MG4183>, and you will be sons<MG5207> of the Most<MG5310> High<MG5310>; for He Himself<MG846> is kind<MG5543> to ungrateful<MG884> and evil<MG4190> people. <a href="/luke/6-36.htm">36</a><a href="#fn">[v]</a>Be merciful<MG3629>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> your Father<MG3962> is merciful<MG3629>. <a href="/luke/6-37.htm">37</a>“Do not <a href="#fn">[w]</a>judge<MG2919>, and you will not be judged<MG2919>; and do not <a href="#fn">[x]</a>condemn<MG2613a>, and you will not be condemned<MG2613a>; <a href="#fn">[y]</a>pardon<MG630>, and you will be pardoned<MG630>. <a href="/luke/6-38.htm">38</a>Give<MG1325>, and it will be given<MG1325> to you. They will <a href="#fn">[z]</a>pour<MG1325> into your lap<MG2859> a good<MG2570> measure<MG3358>—pressed<MG4085> down<MG4085>, shaken<MG4531> together<MG4531>, and running<MG5240> over<MG5240>. For by your standard<MG3358> of measure<MG3354> it will be measured<MG488> to you in<MG488> return<MG488>.” <a href="/luke/6-39.htm">39</a>Now<MG1161> He also<MG2532> spoke<MG3004> a parable<MG3850b> to them: “A person<MG5185> who<MG5185> is<MG5185> blind<MG5185> cannot<MG1410, 3385> guide<MG3594> another who<MG5185> is<MG5185> blind<MG5185>, can he? Will they not both<MG297> fall<MG1706> into a pit<MG999>? <a href="/luke/6-40.htm">40</a>A <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>student<MG3101> is not above<MG5228> the teacher<MG1320>; but everyone<MG3956>, when he has been fully<MG2675> trained<MG2675>, will be like<MG5613> his teacher<MG1320>. <a href="/luke/6-41.htm">41</a>Why<MG5101> do you look<MG991> at the <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>speck<MG2595> that is in your brother’s<MG80> eye<MG3788>, but do not notice<MG2657> the log<MG1385> that is in your own<MG2398> eye<MG3788>? <a href="/luke/6-42.htm">42</a>How<MG4459> can<MG1410> you say<MG3004> to your brother<MG80>, ‘Brother<MG80>, let<MG863> me take<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>speck<MG2595> that is in your eye<MG3788>,’ when you yourself<MG846> do not see<MG991> the log<MG1385> that is in your own eye<MG3788>? You hypocrite<MG5273>, first<MG4413> take<MG1544b> the log<MG1385> out<MG1544b> of your own eye<MG3788>, and then<MG5119> you will see<MG1227> clearly<MG1227> to take<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>speck<MG2595> that is in your brother’s<MG80> eye<MG3788>. <a href="/luke/6-43.htm">43</a>For there is no<MG3756> good<MG2570> tree<MG1186> that bears<MG4160> bad<MG4550> fruit<MG2590>, nor<MG3761>, <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>on the other<MG3825> hand<MG3825>, a bad<MG4550> tree<MG1186> that bears<MG4160> good<MG2570> fruit<MG2590>. <a href="/luke/6-44.htm">44</a>For each<MG1538> tree<MG1186> is known<MG1097> by its own<MG2398> fruit<MG2590>. For people do not gather<MG4816> figs<MG4810> from thorns<MG173>, nor<MG3761> do they pick<MG5166> grapes<MG4718> from a briar<MG942> bush<MG942>. <a href="/luke/6-45.htm">45</a>The good<MG18> person<MG444> out of the good<MG18> <a href="#fn">[af]</a>treasure<MG2344> of his heart<MG2588> brings<MG4393> forth<MG4393> what<MG3588> is good<MG18>; and the evil<MG4190> person out of the evil<MG4190> treasure brings<MG4393> forth<MG4393> what<MG4190> is<MG4190> evil<MG4190>; for his mouth<MG4750> speaks<MG2980> from <a href="#fn">[ag]</a>that which<MG4051> fills<MG4051> his heart<MG2588>.
