In the NFL, a fair catch also allows the <a href="/wiki/Fair_catch_kick" title="Fair catch kick">fair catch kick</a> to be used on the next play, even with no time on the clock remaining, to attempt a <a href="/wiki/Field_goal_(American_and_Canadian_football)" class="mw-redirect" title="Field goal (American and Canadian football)">field goal</a> via free kick.
