He laid siege to the fortified cities and intended to break into them.</td></tr></table> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><tr><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-2.htm">2</a>When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he intended to wage war against Jerusalem,</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-2.htm">2</a>And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and intended to fight against Jerusalem,</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-2.htm">2</a>Now when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he intended to make war on Jerusalem,</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-2.htm">2</a>And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-2.htm">2</a>Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he planned war on Jerusalem, </td></tr></table> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><tr><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-3.htm">3</a>he consulted with his officials and military staff about blocking off the water from the springs outside the city, and they helped him.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-3.htm">3</a>he planned with his officers and his mighty men to stop the water of the springs that were outside the city; and they helped him.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-3.htm">3</a>he decided with his officers and his warriors to cut off the supply of water from the springs which were outside the city, and they helped him.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-3.htm">3</a>He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-3.htm">3</a>so he consulted with his officials and his warriors about stopping up the waters of the springs that were outside the city, and they helped him. </td></tr></table> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><tr><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-4.htm">4</a>They gathered a large group of people who blocked all the springs and the stream that flowed through the land. He built another wall outside that one and reinforced the terraces of the City of David. He also made large numbers of weapons and shields.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-5.htm">5</a>He set to work resolutely and built up all the wall that was broken down and raised towers upon it, and outside it he built another wall, and he strengthened the Millo in the city of David. He also made weapons and shields in abundance.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-5.htm">5</a>And he took courage and rebuilt all the wall that had been broken down and erected towers on it, and built another outside wall and strengthened the Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in great number.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-5.htm">5</a>Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-5.htm">5</a>Then Hezekiah strengthened his position by rebuilding the entire broken-down wall and heightening the towers and the other outside wall. He repaired the supporting terraces of the city of David, and made an abundance of weapons and shields. </td></tr></table> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><tr><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-6.htm">6</a>He appointed military officers over the people and assembled them before him in the square at the city gate and encouraged them with these words:</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-6.htm">6</a>And he set combat commanders over the people and gathered them together to him in the square at the gate of the city and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-6.htm">6</a>He appointed military officers over the people and gathered them to him in the square at the city gate, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-6.htm">6</a>And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-6.htm">6</a>He set military commanders over the people and gathered the people in the square of the city gate. Then he encouraged them, saying, </td></tr></table> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><tr><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-7.htm">7</a>"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-7.htm">7</a>“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-7.htm">7</a>"Be strong and courageous, do not fear or be dismayed because of the king of Assyria nor because of all the horde that is with him; for the one with us is greater than the one with him.</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-7.htm">7</a>Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:</td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-7.htm">7</a>"Be strong and courageous! Don't be afraid or discouraged before the king of Assyria or before the large army that is with him, for there are more with us than with him.</td></tr></table> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><tr><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-8.htm">8</a>With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles." And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-8.htm">8</a>With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.</td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><a href="/2_chronicles/32-8.htm">8</a>He has only human strength, but we have Yahweh our God to help us and to fight our battles."
