Matthew 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-28)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-1.htm"><b>1</b></a></span>And it came to pass on a Sabbath,<span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="BYZ and TR ‘On the second Sabbath after the first’">a</a></span> He is passing along through grainfields; and His disciples were plucking and were eating the heads of grain, rubbing <i>them</i> in the hands. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing that which is not lawful <i>on</i> the Sabbaths?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And Jesus answering, said to them, <span class="red">“Not even have you read this, that which David did when he himself was hungry, and those who were with him: <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>how he entered into the house of God, and having taken the loaves of the presentation, ate and gave to those with him, which it is not lawful to eat, except to the priests only?”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And He was saying to them, <span class="red">“The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Heals on the Sabbath<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 12:9-14; Mark 3:1-6)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And it came to pass on another Sabbath, He entered into the synagogue and taught; and there was a man there, and his right hand was withered. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And the scribes and the Pharisees were closely watching Him, whether He will heal on the Sabbath, that they might find <i>reason</i> to accuse Him. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And He knew their thoughts, and He said to the man having the withered hand, <span class="red">“Arise and stand in the midst.”</span> And having risen up, he stood. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then Jesus said to them, <span class="red">“I ask you whether it is lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And having looked around on them all, He said to him, <span class="red">“Stretch out your hand.”</span> And he did, and his hand was restored. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And they themselves were filled with rage, and were discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus. </p><p class="hdg">The Twelve Apostles<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 10:1-4; Mark 3:13-19)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And it came to pass in those days, He went out to the mountain to pray, and He was spending the night in prayer to God. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And when it became day, He summoned His disciples, also having chosen out from them twelve, whom also He named apostles: <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Simon whom He also named Peter, and his brother Andrew; and James and John; and Philip and Bartholomew; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>and Matthew and Thomas; and James <i>son of</i> Alphaeus; and Simon the <i>one</i> called Zealot; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>and Judas <i>son</i> of James; and Judas Iscariot, who became <i>the</i> betrayer. </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Ministers to a Great Crowd<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 4:23-25)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And having descended with them, He stood on a level place, and a large crowd of His disciples, and a great multitude of the people from all Judea, and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>who came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases. And those troubled with unclean spirits were healed. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And the whole multitude were seeking to touch Him, because power was going out from Him and healing all. </p><p class="hdg">The Beatitudes<br /><span class="cross">(Psalm 1:1-6; Matthew 5:3-12)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And He, having lifted up His gaze upon His disciples, was saying:</p><p class="indent1stlinered">“Blessed <i>are</i> the poor,</p><p class="indentred2"> for yours is the kingdom of God. </p><p class="indentred1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Blessed <i>are</i> those hungering now,</p><p class="indentred2"> for you will be filled.</p><p class="indentred1"> Blessed <i>are</i> those weeping now,</p><p class="indentred2"> for you will laugh.</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Blessed are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall exclude you, and shall insult <i>you</i>, and shall cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy; for behold, your reward <i>is</i> great in heaven. For their fathers according to these things used to treat the prophets likewise. </p><p class="hdg">Woes<br /><span class="cross">(Amos 6:1-7)</span></p><p class="indent1stlinered"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>But woe to you who are rich,</p><p class="indentred2"> for you are receiving your comfort. </p><p class="indentred1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Woe to you having been filled now,</p><p class="indentred2"> for you will hunger.</p><p class="indentred1"> Woe to those laughing now,</p><p class="indentred2"> for you will mourn and weep. </p><p class="indentred1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Woe to you when all men speak well of you,</p><p class="indentred2"> for according to these things their fathers used to treat the false prophets likewise. </p><p class="hdg">Love Your Enemies<br /><span class="cross">(Leviticus 24:17-23; Matthew 5:38-48)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But to you hearing I say: Love your enemies, do good to those hating you, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>bless those cursing you, pray for those mistreating you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>To the <i>one</i> striking you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from the <i>one</i> taking away your cloak, do not withhold the tunic also. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Give to everyone asking you, and from the <i>one</i> taking away what <i>is</i> yours, do not ask <i>it</i> back. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And as you desire that men should do to you, do likewise to them. </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And if you love those loving you, what credit is it to you? For even sinners love those loving them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And indeed, if you do good to those doing good to you, what credit is it to you? For even sinners do the same. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And if you lend <i>to those</i> from whom you expect to receive back, what credit is it to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, that they might receive the same amount. </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and evil. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Be you merciful, as your Father also is merciful. </p><p class="hdg">Do Not Judge<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 7:1-6; Romans 14:1-12)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And do not judge that you should not be judged; and do not condemn that you should not be condemned; forgive and you will be forgiven. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over will they put into your lap. For with that measure you measure, it will be measured again to you.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And He spoke a parable also to them. <span class="red">“Is a blind <i>man</i> able to lead a blind <i>man</i>? Will they not both fall into a pit? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>A disciple is not above the teacher, and everyone fully trained will be like his teacher.</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And why do you look at the splinter that <i>is</i> in your brother’s eye and not notice <i>the</i> beam that <i>is</i> in the own eye? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>How are you able to say to your brother, ‘Brother let <i>that</i> I might cast out the splinter that <i>is</i> in your eye,’ yourself not seeing <i>the</i> beam in your eye? Hypocrite! First cast out the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to cast out the splinter in the eye of your brother. </p><p class="hdg">A Tree and its Fruit<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 7:15-23; Matthew 12:33-37)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>For there is no good tree producing bad fruit, nor again a bad tree producing good fruit. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>For each tree is known by its own fruit. For they do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which <i>is</i> good; and the evil out of the evil brings forth that which <i>is</i> evil. For out of the abundance of his heart, his mouth speaks. </p><p class="hdg">The House on the Rock<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 7:24-27)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>And why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>Everyone who is coming to Me, and hearing My words, and doing them, I will show you whom he is like. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/6-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>He is like to a man building a house, who dug and deepened, and laid a foundation on the rock.
