Therefore Jesus, being wearied from the journey, thus was sitting at the well. <i>The</i> hour was about <i>the</i> sixth. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>A woman out of Samaria comes to draw water. Jesus says to her, <span class="red">“Give Me to drink.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For His disciples had gone away into the city, that they might buy food. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Therefore the Samaritan woman says to Him, “How do You, being a Jew, ask drink from me, being a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no association with Samaritans. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to her, <span class="red">“If you had known the gift of God and who it is saying to you, ‘Give Me to drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given to you living water.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>The woman says to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; from where then do You have the living water? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank of it himself, and his sons, and his livestock?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to her, <span class="red">“Everyone drinking of this water will thirst again; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>but whoever may drink of the water that I will give him will never thirst, to the age. Instead, the water that I will give to him will become in him a spring of water, welling up into eternal life.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>The woman says to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I might not thirst, nor come here to draw <i>water</i>.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>He says to her, <span class="red">“Go, call your husband, and come here.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>The woman answered and said to Him, “I do not have a husband.”</p><p class="reg"> Jesus says to her, <span class="red">“You have spoken correctly, ‘I do not have a husband.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>For you have had five husbands, and he whom you have now is not your husband; this you have spoken truly.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>The woman says to Him, “Sir, I understand that You are a prophet. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you say that in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Jesus says to her, <span class="red">“Believe Me, woman, that an hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is of the Jews. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But an hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father also seeks such who worship Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>God <i>is</i> Spirit, and it behooves those worshiping Him to worship in spirit and truth.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>The woman says to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming, who is called Christ; when He comes, He will tell us all things.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Jesus says to her, <span class="red">“I who am speaking to you am <i>He</i>.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">The Disciples Return and Marvel</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And upon this, His disciples came and were amazed that He was speaking with a woman. But no one said, “What do You seek?” Or “Why do You speak with her?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then the woman left her water pot and went away into the city, and says to the men, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>“Come, see a man who told me all things I ever did. Can it be <i>that</i> this is the Christ?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>They went forth out of the city and were coming unto Him. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>But in the meantime the disciples were asking Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>But He said to them, <span class="red">“I have food to eat that you do not know.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Therefore the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him <i>anything</i> to eat?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Jesus says to them, <span class="red">“My food is that I should do the will of the <i>One</i> having sent Me, and should finish His work. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Do you not say that it is yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and see the fields, because they are already white toward harvest!</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>The <i>one</i> reaping receives a reward and gathers fruit unto eternal life, so that the <i>one</i> sowing and the <i>one</i> reaping may rejoice together. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>For in this, the saying is true, that is, ‘One is sowing, and another is reaping.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>I sent you to reap what you have not toiled for; others have toiled, and you have entered into their labor.” </p><p class="hdg">Many Samaritans Believe</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And out of that city, many of the Samaritans believed in Him, because of the word of the woman testifying, “He told me all things I ever did.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>Therefore when the Samaritans came to Him, they were asking Him to abide with them, and He stayed there two days. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And many more believed because of His word. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And they were saying to the woman, “No longer because of your speech do we believe; for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world.” </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Heals the Official's Son<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>And after the two days, He went forth from there into Galilee. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in the own hometown. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>Therefore when He came into Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen the greatness of all the things He had done in Jerusalem during the feast, for they themselves also had gone to the feast. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water wine. And there was in Capernaum a certain royal official whose son was sick. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>Having heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was asking that He would come down and heal his son; for he was about to die. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>Therefore Jesus said to him, <span class="red">“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>The royal official says to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>Jesus says to him, <span class="red">“Go, your son lives.”</span></p><p class="reg"> The man believed the word that Jesus said to him, and he went on his way. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>And already <i>as</i> he is going down, his servants met him, saying that his son lives. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/4-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>Therefore he inquired from them the hour in which he got better.
