Those stickers will be handed out by the schools’ administration.</li> <li>Students aged 14 and under are not required to show ID. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Students who do not possess a student ID, or are unable to obtain one, can apply for a free monthly bus pass at the District of Kitimat municipal hall.</li> <li><em><strong>When the high school year ends in June, students will still be able to use their student ID or monthly bus pass until the end of August.</strong></em></li> </ul> <p> </p> <p>The pilot program was initially introduced by Council in September 2020 with the goal of encouraging more young people to use public transportation and help move Kitimat towards more eco-friendly transportation.</p> <p>“We’re pleased to be able to support families by increasing the access to transportation and hopefully also supporting community shift towards more environmentally sustainable practices.”  Mayor of Kitimat, Phil Germuth stated in an interview with the <a href="https://www.northernsentinel.com/community/free-student-transit-fares-pilot-project-in-kitimat/">Northern Sentinel</a>. </p> <p>More information on bus schedules and fares can be found at <a href="https://www.bctransit.com/kitimat/home">BC Transit</a>.  BC Transit also offers free fares for children aged six to 12, who may travel unaccompanied without providing identification.
