The Cinematograph Film Act of 1927 required that an escalating percentage of films shown in Britain be made domestically; as a result, during the 1930s there was a dramatic increase in British productions and the emergence of “quota quickies,” films made in England with Hollywood control and financing. In addition, <a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Nick-Park" class="md-crosslink " data-show-preview="true">Nick Park</a>’s pioneering animated shorts and feature films, such as the Wallace and Gromit series and <em>Chicken Run</em> (2000), <a class="md-dictionary-link md-dictionary-tt-off eb" data-term="garnered" href="https://www.britannica.com/dictionary/garnered" data-type="EB">garnered</a> international renown. The nearness of film studios to the London stage allows directors and actors to pursue careers in both mediums to an extent unknown in the United States.
